Chapter 982: Chapter 424 Veteran’s Club (Part 2)
After 15 minutes of fighting, the team advanced to the open area in the east, where they opened a passage about 7 meters wide and 70 meters deep. However, with a total width of 50 meters, many dangers were still hidden.
Snow Egg dialed the satellite phone: "Secured the east side of the rooftop."
"Understood, hold position and stand by."
Little Knife was responsible for sticking fluorescent tape on both sides of the passage, while Snow Egg used on-site items to fill gaps in the passage, reducing the chance of zombies appearing suddenly as much as possible. Lin Wu kept watch with his gun. After a round of taping, Lin Wu had killed seven more zombies, which was worse than expected. The transportation work to come would be even more dangerous.
Ten minutes later, Shana played music to attract the zombies, while the helicopter took the opportunity to land on the open ground in the east. Lin Wu and two others protected the helicopter’s landing, frequently shooting zombies emerging from behind obstacles and running towards the helicopter. Little Sniper, Baldy, Little Girl, and Xiao Zhuan disembarked from the plane and joined Lin Wu’s team. They split into three groups to clean up the surroundings of the passage once more, expanding the theoretical safety width to 20 meters. This task consumed a lot of ammunition and time.
Maya and Xiaoji also disembarked from the plane, establishing a position on the open ground.
The tactical squad began to descend the building, with Little Knife and Snow Egg patrolling back and forth through the rooftop passage. Shana temporarily assisted the patrol, waiting for Baldy’s orders. While keeping guard, Maya and Xiaoji observed the movements of the zombie horde on the ground. The density of zombies far exceeded that in the center of Zuoxian City, and zombie kings were everywhere to be seen.
...
There were no major issues from the rooftop to the first floor. Going down the stairs, a fire door was closed at each level, and a prepared nylon rope knot was fastened. The quality of the fire doors was good, and the sound insulation was also very effective. Even if a few zombies were disturbed, they didn’t pose a big threat.
The first floor was the most difficult part of the mission. There are three doors at the front entrance; the main entrance leads to the lobby, which serves as a reception area and tea bar, furnished with four sets of sofas and coffee tables.
The left front door leads to the administrative department’s work hall, an open office space mainly for identity verification, tracking rehabilitation progress, doctor’s appointments, and phone reception. The right front door opens to the pharmacy hall, also equipped with tea seating areas where people can regularly collect their prescribed medication according to their prescriptions.
There is also a back door, basically a staff passage that leads to a changing room. To the left is the physical examination area, for basic check-ups and targeted blood tests; to the right is the inspection area, fitted with various medical examination devices.
The underground entrance is located in the room opposite the staff passage changing room. Inside, there is a reception desk where one can pass after identity verification.
The first underground level consists of a bar, billiard room, arcade, KTV, and a fighting ring. The second underground level is a shooting range, which is divided into static and moving targets, all using live fire shooting. A vault with a large amount of armaments is located on the second underground level.
The tactical squad waited at the staircase entrance; Baldy contacted Shana: "You may begin."
Shana: "Understood."
Before long, Lin Wu and the others heard the sound of music coming from outside, but because they were indoors, the music wasn’t very loud. Of the ten zombies within visual range, only three to four were drawn by the music.
"Move out."
Baldy led the way, with Little Sniper on one side and himself on the other, rapidly shooting zombies in front and on both sides. Little Girl and Xiao Zhuan followed up. The rear was covered by Lin Wu and Lin Meng. Compared to the other groups, Lin Wu surpassed the others in pistol handling skills. Baldy and the others were more used to rifles and relied somewhat on sights, whereas Lin Wu was long accustomed to using a pistol in close combat for rapid firing.
The Double Forest duo provided covering fire from the rear, significantly reducing the pressure on the leading group. As the team advanced near the staff passage, Lin Meng whispered, "Zombie king."
Lin Wu turned around, and together with Lin Meng, fired both guns, blowing off the head of the zombie king that was more than ten meters away after it knocked over a coffee table. Dozens of zombies followed in the wake of the zombie king.
Baldy ordered: "Fall back, defend the southern line, hold the position. Call Shana."
Shana: "Received."
Baldy asked: "Is there a problem with the southern speaker?"
"Wait." Shana darted through the rooftop passage, quickly moving to the south side, and indeed did not hear the music from the south, pressing the remote control a few times: "It seems unresponsive."
Xiaoji said: "Long-press the corresponding remote control key to reboot the system."
Ten seconds later, Shana heard the music: "Southern music restored."
Behind her, Little Knife warned: "Watch out." He grabbed Shana’s collar and pulled her back, as a zombie burst out from a wall opening on Shana’s left front. Little Knife and Shana lost their positions, which gave Snow Egg a clear shooting range, and he quickly shot the zombie dead with two shots.
The route from the rooftop to the south side was not the secure passage they had created, and many zombies were hidden in the darkness. Since Snow Egg had covered the front but missed the back, he turned around upon hearing a noise, only to have a zombie pounce on him at close range. Veteran player Snow Egg put his left arm, wrapped in a cloth, across as he stuffed his left forearm into the zombie’s mouth. As the zombie clamped down, Snow Egg right handedly aimed his pistol at the zombie’s head and killed it.
On the other side, Little Knife was grappling with another zombie, holding onto the back of its head and repeatedly smashing it against the wall.
In some zombie films, there was a situation where zombies had more strength than humans, and ordinary people couldn’t withstand a zombie’s attack at all. Setting aside their brains, theoretically, zombies might have great endurance, but their strength should diminish. Assuming there is no increase or decrease, as long as you are more ruthless than the zombie, fighting one-on-one isn’t an issue, because humans will, at the very least, pick up a brick. The advantage of zombies not feeling pain isn’t really a big one; humans at the brink of life and death can unleash greater potential.
