Chapter 981: Chapter 424 Veteran’s Club (Part 1)
Ground forces were training, while Maya was sleeping, having completed her training during the night. After finding the kerosene treasury, helicopters had become her favorite mode of transport. Xiaoji was at the railway bridge base, improving the anti-drone cannons used in the making of Snow Egg.
This was a bulky device, weighing 20 kilograms, capable of emitting electromagnetic waves to disable drones within a kilometer by making them lose control and crash. Xiaoji was figuring out how to extend its range to two kilometers. However, due to the lack of radar, detecting drones turned out to be an even bigger issue.
What was once a peaceful and carefree base suddenly transformed into a war tribe, a minor issue for players, but for Xiao Wu and the others, it was like switching to a different living environment. Farmer Stone transitioned into a psychologist, understanding Xiao Wu, Xiao Wen, and Xiao Yi’s fears about the uncertain future. Especially considering the possible future battle against the vast Alliance of survivors, there was a sense of despair and helplessness.
Stone told them that ultimately, issues must be resolved through negotiation, but before negotiating, a battle should be initiated to gain sufficient bargaining chips. Should the battle turn unfavorable, he himself would suggest Xiao Wu and the others surrender to the Alliance, even considering surrendering as rebels after a power grab and murders.
As the leader, Stone was aware that the Veteran’s Base would begin relocating within three days, and by then, the railway bridge base would lend a tractor to the Veteran’s Base for their move. Meanwhile, Xiaoji, Xiao Zhuan, Xiao Nu, and Xiao Ju would formally join the railway bridge base.
Stone understood Baldy, who had to be responsible for dozens of people. After changing bases, the Veteran’s Base would establish its own charter and become an independent base within the Alliance. They wanted to ensure their future wouldn’t be absorbed by the Alliance, thus they needed stronger armament. Therefore, tonight’s operation was also crucial for the future survival environment of the Veteran’s Base.
As for the railway bridge base, several leaders had a secret discussion, aiming to hold out for 180 days, after which they could surrender to the Bullies. From the current situation, it was imminent to start a war with the Alliance after the Veteran’s Base relocated.
The medium strategy is to win a local war and establish the base’s status through negotiation.
The worst strategy is to be forced to retreat into the mountains and live stealthily and sparingly.
The best scenario is to win a war, eradicate the Bullies and most of the Alliance’s armed forces, keeping them from having the strength to absorb the railway bridge base. Meanwhile, ensuring the highest survival rate for NPCs, so after 180 days, they can enjoy the right to live freely.
...
Dinner was a sumptuous wild boar stew with instant noodles, sent specially by the couple Butcher and his wife after knowing about the major operation tonight. Shana communicated with the couple, roughly meaning that they were coerced by the railway bridge to regularly supply game meat. Hearing this, Butcher sensed the tension and told Shana that they knew how to handle it.
At eight in the evening, the first squad appeared over central city, consisting of Lin Wu, Shana, Little Knife, and Snow Egg.
Xiaoji was responsible for navigation in the co-pilot seat. When the helicopter reached the location, Lin Wu rappelled down, installing Bluetooth speakers at five locations. The task was quite dangerous, especially when installing a speaker on the third floor of Building B, Lin Wu had to rely on his waist strength to swing himself over to Building B. Due to visibility issues, it took Lin Wu three tries to grab onto the building’s external air conditioning unit, bruising himself all over and tearing his left hand in his first two attempts.
After the installation, the helicopter flew to the sloped roof of Building C, where they descended to the rooftop along the ropes. Once on the rooftop edge, the four, armed with assault rifles, shot the zombies near the security door under the aid of scopes. The number of zombies was relatively large, and the cleaning up was somewhat difficult due to the nearly two-meter-high railings around, but fortunately, with the height difference of over five meters, after each person emptied a magazine, they created a zombie-free area within ten square meters near the west security door.
Lin Wu took out the rope gun and fired it, then pulled the rope tight, with the hook of the rope gun catching on the railing. Lin Wu handed the rope gun to Snow Egg, who secured the rope gun to a decorative chimney, simultaneously tightening the rope.
After pulling a few times, Lin Wu picked up the safety hook and attached it to the rope, while Shana advised on the side, "Brace with your feet, don’t be reckless."
"Hmm." Lin Wu jumped down, the hook sliding down the rope, gaining speed. Lin Wu gripped the hook with his left hand, using the friction to slow down, stepped on the railing with both feet, and stopped outside the railing.
Little Knife reported, "No zombies startled, safe area."
Lin Wu laid his hands on the top of the railing wall, climbed over it, put away the hook, took off his safety vest, and leaned in the corner, holding a silencer-equipped pistol and whispered, "Next one, grab the hook and rope and slide down slowly."
Little Knife was the second to reach Building A, taking Lin Wu’s spot. Lin Wu moved to the security door, glanced down the stairs, then dashed out, beginning to fire at the dozen zombies on the staircase.
Although Snow Egg and Shana safely reached Building A. Shana reported back, guarding the security door, Lin Wu, Little Knife, and Snow Egg switched from pistols to assault rifles, advancing towards the east side of the rooftop.
The rooftop had been turned into a training ground, filled with a large number of zombies. Lin Wu and his team did not assault directly but opted for an incendiary grenade assault.
They lit a bottle, threw it over the wall, and the sound of shattering glass immediately attracted nearby zombies. The bursting flames quickly ignited these zombies. When the world quieted down, the squad moved inside the wall, killing the remaining zombies. The only zombie king that could pose a threat to the squad was blown up by the three of them before it could detect the squad.
