Chapter 966: Chapter 418: Breakthrough
The cliff climb was no challenge for Lin Wu, known as Spiderman. Under the cover of night, Lin Wu climbed to the top without any difficulty, but he didn’t show himself immediately, instead waiting quietly. A lamp was situated in the middle of the top, and the sentry patrolled back and forth within a 30-meter radius. Before long, he signaled towards the dock guards with his hand and slipped out of the light, finding a dark spot to sit down, took off his helmet, and from under the lining, he pulled out a flask and took a big swig.
Before he could utter a sigh of relief, Lin Wu took him down from behind. Assassinating live targets was not his forte; thus, he imitated what he’d seen before, covering the soldier’s mouth with his left hand to prevent any biting, while forcefully stabbing the dagger into the soldier’s skull with his right hand. The strike was lethal, killing the soldier instantly. Lin Wu withdrew the dagger and dragged the body into a darker corner to start changing his clothes.
Lin Wu didn’t carry a backpack, and indeed there was nothing much in it.
The sound of the crashing waves masked his wrongdoing. Two minutes later, Lin Wu put on the soldier’s clothing, helmet, and assault rifle and started patrolling. The dock’s sentry glanced at Lin Wu patrolling again, gave a hand signal, and Lin Wu responded with a salute, allowing the sentry to slack off. According to what the man had said, the sentry was rotated every three hours.
About 20 minutes later, someone ascended to the top using the cliff ladder, casually saluting each other. Lin Wu kept the brim of his cap low and stood on the edge of the light, with the other person not realizing that Lin Wu was an imposter. Due to the distance of over ten meters, coupled with the noise of the waves, there was no conversation between them. Lin Wu descended the nearest cliff ladder.
Inside the base, there were plenty of illuminated pathways, but there were also many dark corners. Corners were lit depending on the department, such as the fuel depot, which had lighting at the entrance, surveillance, and several soldiers responsible for fuel replenishment.
Following the other soldiers changing shift, Lin Wu walked down the central path, illuminated by streetlights and headed towards the main building of the base. When the person in front of him turned left towards the base building located on the upper right side of the rectangle, Lin Wu proceeded to the prison located at the right side of the rectangle.
The prison had two floors; the first floor was a canteen with a few refugees working there, employed full-time with room and board to take care of the three meals, security, and sanitation of the prison floor. It was now eleven at night, and they had gone to the dormitory next door to rest.
Lin Wu knocked on the dormitory door; it opened, and the lights inside were still on. Lin Wu said, "I need a doctor, preferably an ENT specialist."
One of the refugees reluctantly stood up: "Don’t we have a military doctor?"
Lin Wu replied, "The military doctor can’t find the cause."
The refugee took the keys and asked while walking, "What are the symptoms?"
Lin Wu answered, "Dizziness occurs suddenly when standing up, the military doctor said something inside the ear was balancing the body. Is there a doctor in the prison?"
Walking ahead, the refugee said, "Yes, there is one woman, she was a doctor at the best private hospital in Greater Day After Tomorrow City. Hehe, she used to earn millions a year, and now she’s a prisoner."
Lin Wu inquired, "Tell me about her situation."
The refugee said, "Her name is Xiao Yi, she was one among the first group of medical personnel to support Day After Tomorrow City, worked as a volunteer at the West Peninsula Medical Station. Later, she refused to evacuate with the volunteer team and stayed in the base."
The refugee turned the key, unlocked the lock on the steps, and went upstairs with Lin Wu, continuing, "Due to the increase in violent incidents, her surgery workload dramatically increased, and the continuous work severely drained her health. She made a mistake during surgery on a VIP’s son. The VIP believed she completed all surgeries for refugees successfully but failed during his son’s surgery, so he wanted her dead. Ultimately, Boss considered her actual situation and her medical skills, and she was imprisoned for involuntary manslaughter."
During the conversation, they reached the second floor, where there were several 50-square-meter cells with iron bars, each holding more than a dozen prisoners. The stench from the prisoners could be smelled without getting any closer.
The refugee turned on the lights in the corridor, Lin Wu walked in the middle, looking left and right for a while, and then said, "Maya, Lin Meng."
One of the prisoners asked for trouble: "Officer, what’s happening?"
Lin Wu answered, "Trial."
Lin Meng’s voice came through, "I’m here."
Someone from the side cautioned, "Don’t talk, you’ll die."
Lin Wu walked up to the cell, saw Lin Meng and Maya, and said to the refugee beside him, "Please open the door."
The refugee hesitated, "Officer, we don’t have the keys. Don’t you have them?"
The refugee seemed to realize something, "Are you alone to take someone out?"
Lin Wu whispered to the refugee, "She is my sister."
The refugee quickly said, "No way, that’s not possible."
Lin Wu pulled out his gun on the refugee, who said, "That won’t work, I will be kicked out."
Lin Wu questioned, "Didn’t you say you didn’t have the keys? Why do you say it’s not possible now?"
The refugee cast a glance at the red alarm button on the wall five meters away and slowly backed away. Lin Wu apologetically said, "Sorry about this," and shot the refugee dead, instantly causing a commotion inside the cells.
Lin Wu approached the cell and asked, "How do we open it?" The lock seemed high-end, his experience in Hardcore Mode couldn’t help him here; in the real Hardcore Mode, he was just an extreme sports athlete, not a lockpicking expert, with no benefits.
Maya said, "Give me the dagger."
Maya took the dagger, reached through the bars with both hands, tried with the dagger for a moment: "No good, it’s too big."
Lin Wu searched the refugee’s body and took out an earpick: "Will this work?"
