Kingdom of Corrosion -
Chapter 769 - 348
Chapter 769: 348
...
The 51st floor’s structure was similar to the 52nd, with a mix of zombies in the hallway, including every kind except the Titans, as well as elite zombies. The most notable feature was that the zombies on this floor seemed to be frozen in place, even the normally active Frenzies didn’t move at all, standing still like wax figures. However, all of the zombies’ eyes were wide open.
From the instructions on this floor, three challenges became known. The first challenge was that the zombies wouldn’t be attracted to external noises, only to human activity that startled them. To illustrate, if you threw something, the sound of it landing wouldn’t attract the zombies. Perhaps this was also a weakness.
The second point, this floor belonged to the conglomerate’s technology research department and was equipped with a security alarm system.
The third point, when players killed zombies and moved more than 20 meters away from their location, the zombies would be refreshed. The newly respawned zombies would all be regular ones.
After reading the instructions, some people thought about backing out and heading directly for the 50th floor, but then they remembered that with each floor they descended from the 54th, the difficulty increased. The 50th floor might not necessarily be easier than the 51st.
Wouldn’t you go down to take a look? There might be a possibility that after having a look, the 50th floor seemed easier, but the reality was much tougher. Whereas the 51st floor, which appeared more difficult, could actually be simpler than the 50th one.
Scout Lin Wu went for a round and brought back some basic information. After analysing it, Maya and Shana believed it wasn’t impossible to succeed, "Within a 7 meter radius, there’s only one group of zombies, no more than three. We can’t eliminate them with melee weapons before they start shouting, so there’s only one method, move forward step by step with handguns."
Shana added, "If you fire at point A, zombies from points B, C, and D might join the fight, but not if you’re further away. If we control the location of the fight, perhaps only B and C, or even just B, will join the fight. The biggest risk comes from the security alarm, if we venture too deep and trigger it, we could very well end up surrounded."
Shana, "Additionally, there’s the obstacle of the one-way security door. From behind the door you can sense and open it, but if you want to enter from the front, you’ll need to swipe an ID card. Therefore, we need to clear the hallways and offices step by step."
Maya said, "Lin Wu and I will work as a team. After you enter the office, we’ll be responsible for clearing the surrounding zombies. Once the alarm is triggered, we will immediately retreat towards the fire door. Shana will lead the team working in the offices. Any questions?"
Little Knife asked, "Are we all using handguns?"
Maya said, "It will depend on the situation. Handguns are limited as weapons, we can’t make any more noise."
...
Lin Wu poked his head out and saw a statue-like zombie three meters away. The zombie saw Lin Wu, and Lin Wu immediately raised his gun and blasted its head apart. The other two zombies charged at Lin Wu, and his second and third shots hit one of the zombies in the hand. Fortunately, Maya followed up with shots that took them down. The issue was Lin Wu’s crouching in Stealth mode, causing the bullets to be regularly blocked by the zombies’ outstretched arms.
After reloading their magazines, Lin Wu faced east and Maya faced south, silently waiting with their guns ready. Seconds later, zombies from points B and C, alerted by the gunfire, came pouring in, and the two of them gunned them all down together. After reloading again, they waited for ten more seconds, and seeing no new zombies join the battle meant the surrounding area was secure.
Shana reported, "I found a box of cigarettes in the office."
"Quite rare." In the game, there were only cigars, no other tobacco products. Maya went to the office and got the cigarettes, along with a lighter stuffed inside the cigarette box.
Maya lit a cigarette and exhaled the smoke without noticing anything unusual. The smoke dissipated as it drifted farther away, and Lin Wu pointed forward.
Lin Ma moved five meters forward, and Maya, repeating the earlier technique, saw a beam of light striking the ground from the side amid the smoke. Lying on the ground, she exhaled another puff of smoke and spotted a circle of light as large as the mouth of a bowl. She took out a marker and drew a circle outside the circumference of the light. Then Maya had Lin Wu step on her shoulders to draw another circle on the wall, directly below the light source. With these markings, they completed the identification of the alarm, allowing everyone to easily avoid the trap.
