Chapter 765: Chapter 347: Portal_2

Before Lin Wu lay a landscaped pond formed by artificial hills and rocks, with quite a few fish swimming in it. Taking the left path, the right path, or crossing the pond, walking for about 20 meters would take him into the East Administrative District.

Due to the distance, Lin Wu squinted to the smallest, but still couldn’t make out what this East Administrative District actually was.

He had just taken a step forward when a slight noise came through his earpiece; Lin Wu patted the earpiece, no response. So he stepped back and patted the earpiece again, Shana immediately said, "I’m here."

"Didn’t you hear me just now?"

"No."

"I’m going." Whether the earpiece worked or not, he had to go. Lin Wu picked his moment, ran forward a few steps, and flipped into the pond.

Just as he was about to dive into the nearly one-meter-deep pond, he saw that the fish had names above their heads: Cannibalistic Fish.

Damn it! Who uses cannibalistic fish for decoration? Are they insane?

Lin Wu grabbed a rock protruding from the water with one hand and hung his lower body onto another rock, narrowly dodging an attack from the cannibalistic fish. Lin Wu’s left hand plunged into the water, he grabbed a cannibalistic fish and tossed it into his backpack. It was good to seek immediate revenge, but he could also consider a barbecue later.

He couldn’t cross the pond; otherwise, even if he could make it across, only his skeleton would remain. Jumping out of the pond, Lin Wu followed a Titan with a quick stealthy pace, circling the pond. This was a risky move, no longer being in a passageway area, there was a chance of encountering two Titans passing by each other.

After circling halfway around the pond, about to enter the East District, a white light shone on the feet of the Titan Lin Wu was following. The other party couldn’t see Lin Wu, and Lin Wu couldn’t see them either. If he continued to go forward, he couldn’t leave the towering back of the Titan and would miss the junction. Retreating would force him back to where he started and possibly result in being caught in a pincer attack.

In desperation, Lin Wu took out the cannibalistic fish and threw it over the head of the Titan. Taking advantage of the moment the opposing Titan turned to look at the disturbance, he took a left into the East District, leaning against a large vase at the entrance. With the white light moving slowly, waiting for the Titan to pass, Lin Wu also saw clearly that the East District was the finance department.

The East District was divided into four small sections in the shape of a cross, each corresponding to a department: tax planning, international business, accounting, and fund security auditing. To be honest, except for understanding half of the second and fourth department, Lin Wu had no clue what the other departments were for, and it seemed to have nothing to do with the media relations department.

That wasn’t entirely true, such as the fund security, which was related. Security could be promoted, and the stock price would rise. The problem was Lin Wu wasn’t quite clear about what the media relations department was. In his era, the media had to be independent and objective units, with no media taking money for services, nor so-called paid reviewers ("paid," as in payola, not as in cars; don’t take it the wrong way).

Inside the East District, there were three Titans whose walking routes formed a cross. Unlike the Titans outside, these Titans would rotate their heads to some degree, causing the white light to sweep around. The biggest challenge Lin Wu faced was the lack of good cover.

Now that he had come this far, could he just go back?

Lin Wu timed it right, sprinting and sliding to dodge the Titan’s gaze, and slipped into the finance department. He dared not stand up, nor could he squat, so he had to crawl on the ground, using the furniture to block the view of the tall Titans.

In doing so, he made a significant discovery; he saw an NPC girl hidden under a desk in an open-plan office. Dawn’s simulation of emotions was terrible; the girl was shaking with fear like she was freezing, her face pale and her lips white, but it seemed to have nothing to do with being scared.

Lin Wu gestured for silence, then lay back and slid toward the girl. Back when Lin Wu and Wai had their dry swimming competition, many thought Lin Wu was childish, unaware that Lin Wu was always preparing.

"Beauty, where’s the secret portal?"

"I don’t know."

"What do you know?"

"I don’t know anything, don’t talk, go away, you’ll get me killed."

Lin Wu said, "If you don’t say something, I’ll kill you right here." Don’t think I won’t do it just because you’re a girl; any NPC making me unhappy deserves to die. Even making me happy might lead to the same outcome.

Perhaps the threats worked, or maybe it triggered a dialogue mechanism, the girl said, "There’s a scary story that goes around the group, saying that a gate to hell is hidden within the four landscaped ponds."

So the saying, "If I don’t go to hell, who will?" originated here. Damn you, Dawn, one pond was enough, and you had to create four. Four would have been fine, but then you had to breed cannibalistic fish.

Simply put, there is a portal hidden within the four ponds at each cardinal direction.

Lin Wu took out a small pistol, threatening, "Tell me, what other legends and stories are there?"

The girl thought for a moment, "Boss Wang is very superstitious about the number 18; he also has a special preference for symmetry, so all his passwords have something to do with 18."

Lin Wu understood this, but who was Boss Wang? He had never heard of him and had no recollection at all.

The girl waved, "Just go, I don’t know anything else."

Lin Wu looked at the girl, "Where’s your cell phone?"

The girl replied, "At my workstation."

Ha, either Dawn made a mistake or sending a message wasn’t her style. Note to self, file a complaint when free.

Lin Wu asked again, "Are there other colleagues still alive?"

The girl replied, "I haven’t seen anyone."

Lin Wu nodded, "Is it okay we test Dawn’s level of realism?"

The girl didn’t understand, "What’s a Dawn?"
