Chapter 714: Chapter 336 Preparation
Ignoring Lin Wu, Maya continued, "The second risk, I’m not certain what the place is called, it just looks like a commercial street, so I’m also not certain that it’s a system-recommended base."
Lin Wu said, "If all else fails, just hang around at my base."
"That’s also possible," Maya agreed.
Lin Wu added, "Maybe you could even steal a plane."
If it weren’t for Shana being there, she would have killed that person on the spot. Maya said, "You go to pick up Stone and Su Shi, we will go to pick up Cotton and Dashuang, let’s meet on the roadside."
Shana said, "Stone has made up his mind, Starlight and I tried to persuade him, but he isn’t the least bit interested. In the end, he said what bothered him wasn’t the work, but the people. He could put effort into work, but he didn’t want to put effort into dealing with people."
Lin Wu, full of confidence, "Leave it to me, if I can’t deal with him, I’ll change my name to Wood Rain in the future."
Shana laughed and slapped Lin Wu playfully, reaching out her hand, "Hug, come on, quick."
Lin Wu disdainfully replied, "Go away."
Wai jumped into Shana’s arms, and Shana kneaded him thoroughly, "I missed you so much."
A man with a 37-degree body temperature doesn’t get hugged, but a dog does? I’m still pretty handsome, alright?
...
Stone and Su Shi were drinking tea outside the Hunter’s Cottage, enjoying the autumn breeze and the added color of falling leaves, when suddenly a horse charged in.
"Lin Wu?" Stone and Su Shi stood up in surprise.
Lin Wu smiled proudly, "Shocked, aren’t you? Missed me, haven’t you? I love the look on your faces. The lord commands you to come over and serve as a horse block."
Stone cursed with a laugh, "Get lost." They quickly got the pleasantries out of the way in just a few words.
Lin Wu dismounted and hugged Su Shi, shaking hands, "It’s so good to see you again." Then he hugged Stone and the three of them sat down together.
Stone looked at Phantom, "This is a good horse."
"Of course."
"No wonder all the good cabbage is hogged by pigs."
Lin Wu modestly said, "I’m not that white anymore."
"Still as shameless as ever. Tell me, how did you come back?"
Lin Wu wondered, "Didn’t anyone tell you we were coming back?"
Stone retorted, "How would they tell me? Through a dream?"
Lin Wu said, "Exactly, through a dream. Maya asked Nightmare to inform you guys that we’d find a way to return."
Stone was taken aback, "Nightmare said you were settled by the lake in Technology City, along with Hong Yi, Qinglang and some other flower, creating a base together. She didn’t say you were coming back, only that you were living well and that you even killed her in some activities."
Lin Wu waved dismissively, "Forget about that for now. Maya roped in Shana, and she sent me to bring people over."
Stone shook his head, taking a sip from his teacup, "You guys have fun. I suddenly realized that this migration is giving me a chance for a holiday, not another job. This place has a good environment; I can farm for myself and won’t starve to death. I still have some weapons and ammunition to deal with the daily zombies. If we face a siege, we’ll just move. This forest can provide us with enough materials for relocating."
Stone went on, "A simple day’s living is still a day, and it’s also a day even if you have to work hard and tire out. I prefer to drink tea and farm in a peaceful place, thinking about nothing. Rather than constantly hearing quarrels or being told of quarrels and having to intervene. In the month before we disbanded, there were complaints every day, not a single quiet day."
Stone imitated everyone’s tone of voice, "Who’s littering? Trash doesn’t just disappear, you know? Pumpkin and corn again? If you don’t like it, get lost. What do you mean? That’s exactly what I mean. Stone, I feel like they don’t really like me, should we let Starlight become the Deputy Commander? Damn, you were made leader, not the most popular person in the base."
During Stone’s rant of complaints, Su Shi interjected, "The Doomsday Fortress doesn’t just have personnel issues, but also environmental problems."
"Oh?"
Su Shi explained, "The Doomsday Fortress is an open structure, baking in the sun by day and getting drenched when it rains. The worst part is sanitation. Being between a river and a sea can surely add a lot of resources and strengthen the base’s defenses. But sea breezes are only nice occasionally, and annoying after several days, making you feel as if you’re coated in a layer of salt. River water breeds mosquitoes the most easily, and if hygiene within the base is poor, at night everyone can only hide and seek refuge."
"But people won’t blame the base because, after all, it’s the best fortress in the doomsday world. Instead, they’ll magnify their discontent with others and the situations they face." Su Shi said, "There are problems with both people and the base. Lin Wu, when the Doomsday Fortress was in your hands, did you face these issues?"
Lin Wu answered, "We had some, I guess? I don’t know, I’m not sure."
Stone scoffed, "You’re asking him? He doesn’t know jack. During the summer, he was hiding in the forest waterfalls, just enjoying himself." He called out several times, but never brought Stone along.
Lin Wu chuckled, "I know the Doomsday Fortress had lots of mosquitoes." He had spent two mosquito-filled months at the Doomsday Fortress during the summer and knew well its drawbacks. During the day, the heat was unbearable, touching a container could blister your hand. At night, it was too hot to stay in the dorms, and if you left, you became food for mosquitoes.
In Lin Wu’s opinion, aside from its defensive capabilities, the Doomsday Fortress really wasn’t a great place to be. Not to mention the Sawmill; it wasn’t even as comfortable as living in the church at the mountaintop. The core issue was that the Doomsday Fortress was an open-air base.
Lin Wu said, "Maya plans to establish the base in Leimeng Town." Lin Wu proceeded to describe the situation in Leimeng Town.
Su Shi seemed quite tempted, "It sounds good." His problem was global corrosion, which led to a severe scarcity of materials. In his early years, he was busy synthesizing materials; now, he just sat in his lab and stared blankly. It was like a company pushing its employees to resign on their own accord, giving you no work to do but still expecting you to show up, clock in, and not slack off.
