Chapter 630: Chapter 303: Town No. 10 (Part 2)

Why did Nightmare know so much about Shadow? For one thing, her temporary base was nearby, and for another, her base was an ally of Doomsday Fortress. The reason was that Starlight had found Little Knife a temporary residence for two days because of a conflict between Little Knife and Cotton.

Little Knife was from Sawmill, and Cotton was from Doomsday Fortress. They hadn’t had enough time to blend in. Little Knife was boisterous while Cotton was usually quiet and reserved. One day during a meal, Little Knife carelessly commented that the pork was burnt today. Cotton retorted that if Little Knife wasn’t satisfied, she could cook it herself. Little Knife was so upset by this comment she almost cried. Although Stone immediately stepped in, the atmosphere was incredibly tense throughout the meal. Afterwards, the leaders discussed and decided to send Little Knife to help Nightmare for a couple of days.

Lin Wu said, "I know Little Knife, she was purely complaining about the pork, not the chef. Cotton meant no attack with her remark; she was just bluntly saying you could cook your own portion."

Nightmare was impatient, "Call Maya!" What are you explaining to me for?

"Tch!" What an attitude. Lin Wu grabbed the walkie-talkie, "Maya, do you copy?"

Maya, "I’m here."

Lin Wu, "Some dumbass wants to see you."

Maya was stunned for a moment; there weren’t many people Lin Wu would straight up call a dumbass. After a while, Maya asked, "Is it Nightmare?"

Lin Wu was shocked and goggled at Nightmare with schadenfreude. Nightmare covered her face, wanting to cry but having no tears. She didn’t understand, why? Why would Maya associate her with a dumbass?

Lin Wu was still kind-hearted enough to comfort her, "Where flowers bloom, there will always be those who cherish them." Ha ha! If you don’t stay, gent; you and your lot better scram.

Maya, "Hello?"

Lin Wu replied, "That’s right, it’s her. We are by the roadside on Viking East Street."

"Okay, I’ll come over," Maya called out, "Qinglang, do you copy?"

"I’m here."

Maya, "I’ve got a task here, can you take over for a bit?"

"Roger that."

Nightmare soon met with Maya. Seeing a trace of joy on Maya’s face gave Nightmare a bit of solace. Then Maya asked a question that devastated Nightmare, "How is Shadow doing now?"

She knew she should have waited for those two to be together before answering that question. Nightmare reluctantly gave a run-through, but then Lin Wu, always keen to nitpick, asked, "Why didn’t you tell Maya about Starlight’s situation?"

"What about Starlight?"

"The alliance, Little Knife."

"Oh..." Maya gave a rambling introduction.

Lin Wu, "And what about Stone? How did he suppress everyone’s dissatisfaction?" Nightmare hadn’t told him, but he couldn’t help being mischievous. As for whether the word ’suppress’ was appropriate or not? He didn’t know, but he felt it was.

In front of Maya, Nightmare was rather obedient and explained the situation in detail, following Lin Wu’s lead.

Lin Wu, "You..."

"Shut up." Both women looked at Lin Wu at the same time. Nightmare was annoyed, and Maya was disinterested in daily trifles.

"Hmph." I won’t shut up; I’ll hum if I want to.

Maya cut Lin Wu off, finally getting a chance to inquire directly to Nightmare, but her questions were somewhat bizarre: What is the current food production at Doomsday Fortress? How much are the material reserves? How many scraps of cloth do they have? Are they preparing for winter? Are they scouting new maps?

Nightmare answered each question, though as allies, she didn’t remember everything in detail. After listening, Maya pondered for a moment and said, "Go back and tell Stone that food and fabric scraps are the most urgent resources, and they must start preparing for winter. If they can’t find fabric scraps, they can resort to hunting for pelts, which can then be processed. Start digging a cellar for food storage."

"Given the current individual strength and available resources, don’t venture deep into towns for exploration. Focus on gathering resources in the wilderness..."

Lin Wu annoyed with Nightmare, "Aren’t you going to write this down?"

Nightmare was so angry she wanted to pull out a gun, while Maya, after a moment of surprise, picked up on Lin Wu’s meaning. She held off from saying more, asking, "Nightmare, have you seen Shadow in this event?"

"No!" Nightmare said, "Your group is the first batch to reach Town 10; the several trains are just a few hours apart."

Maya, "They can do it." She still had confidence in Shadow’s abilities.

The walkie-talkie crackled with Qinglang’s voice, "I have an escort mission here, we need to have a meeting."

Maya, puzzled, picked up the walkie-talkie to inquire, but Nightmare said, "It seems you’ve found your real mission."

Maya, being smart, heard Nightmare say so and asked, "Are we going to be opponents again?"

"Perhaps!"

Lin Wu drew his gun, "Let’s do it then!"

Nightmare said indifferently, "Killing someone in Town 10 is a life for a life. I can come back to life; you can’t."

Nightmare’s imposing manner stunned Lin Wu, which annoyed him greatly.

Nightmare handed Maya a map, "This is a detailed map of Town 10, collect as many supplies as you can. The last four days won’t be so easy. I’m leaving."

"Okay," Maya said, "It was nice to see you."

"Me too," Nightmare looked at Lin Wu, "and you too, little dead brat."

Lin Wu flew into a rage right away, but Maya was quick to grab his arm, "She’s deliberately provoking."

"But she can’t call me a little dead brat," Lin Wu said. "I’m clearly a big ghost."

"Big Ghost, let’s go."

...

The escort mission was to escort a human infected with the zombie virus to the Final Shelter. Background of the story: The human, named Sasha, survived a zombie attack, although she was infected with the zombie virus, her body had antibodies that could fight against it. She became humanity’s last hope, hence the Final Shelter asked the Orient Express to take Sasha to the Final Shelter.

The Final Shelter was not a location, but a moment in time; the moment the event ends is the location of the Final Shelter.

The mission reward: If Sasha survives, the mileage points accrued by the train will be tripled.

Since Sasha carried the zombie virus, she wouldn’t be attacked by zombies. However, like any ordinary person, she had no fighting ability.

Mission requirements: The train had one passenger car. Sasha would only stay in the passenger car. She didn’t need food or sleep, and would follow the players’ arrangements.

Mission briefing: The villains, having learned of Sasha’s condition, sent ten special agents to assassinate her. The ten special agents possessed a two-hour revival ability and could buy various vehicles and items with points. The restriction on them was that they could only use weapons from this era.

If Sasha died, all the train members could only get 33% of the points, even if they survived seven days.

Of course, it wasn’t just about one Sasha. As long as two conditions were met, and the right person was found, anyone could take on Sasha’s mission. One condition was to arrive in Town 10 four days before the event started; the other was to own a passenger car.

Qinglang couldn’t decide whether to take on Sasha’s mission, which was why he proposed a meeting. This mission was unlike any other; though the reward was substantial, it would make the event incredibly dangerous.

While Maya was still pondering, Lin Wu spoke up first, "The situation is clear. The problem is that we’re all good people who don’t want to put others at risk because of the adventurous genes in us. Let’s be honest and express our own views."

Shuihua spoke first, looking at Qinglang, "Live or die, hardcore or not, we don’t care. We’re willing to take on the challenge."

Qinglang nodded, "For the continuation of mankind, we have a duty to carry out this mission."

Lin Wu said, "But what does that have to do with it?" There’s no need to take it to that level.

Qinglang said earnestly, "Of course, it does. I know this is a game, but it’s also a test. Take for example, I see a group of ants about to be surrounded by water, I could ignore them, because the life or death of ants has nothing to do with me, nor does it affect the whole world. But I would spend some of my time to build a bridge for them to get away. I know it’s meaningless, but if I am to ignore them, I can’t do it. Even if I did, I would feel bad afterward."

Qinglang asked, "In your daily high-freedom sandbox games, don’t you disdain the idea of becoming a petty thief? Or in games with many different endings, are you willing to experience the worst ending?"

Finally, Qinglang said, "I want to emphasize something—I’m not a saint. But when there’s a choice, I choose. However, I respect my companions’ opinions even more, because they are more important to me."

Everyone accepted Qinglang’s reasoning. Lin Wu turned to Hong Yi, "You’re the last one, any thoughts?"

Hong Yi questioned, "Didn’t you and Maya not express any opinions?"

Lin Wu said, "How could I, being as handsome as I am, refuse a mission?"
