Chapter 629: Chapter 303: Town No. 10 (Part 2)
"Mister, give me something to eat!" a woman in tattered clothes sat on the ground, her eyes lifeless, holding a broken bowl begging for alms.
Lin Wu couldn’t stand to see this and immediately said, "That’s not going to work. Watch me."
Lin Wu took the bowl, sat on the ground and held up the bowl, "Money, give me some money. Wai."
Wai made a practiced bow, and his cuteness indeed attracted an NPC; before long, Lin Wu had earned 7 knives. Lin Wu returned the bowl to the beggar, "Sorry for the trouble. Tuition is 10 knives."
"I don’t have any money." The woman reached into her tattered bag and fumbled out a card, "This was left to me by my husband. If you’re willing to pay 10 knives, I’ll sell it to you."
Wow! Dawn, I have exactly ten knives in total.
What card? The woman covered the card with her hand, not letting Lin Wu see it. Lin Wu had no choice but to take the bowl back and let Wai perform to earn money. As a man, if you don’t have a few knives in your pocket, you simply don’t have the courage to step out of the door.
After begging for a full ten knives, Lin Wu exchanged them for the card in the woman’s hand.
A flatbed carriage card.
The so-called flatbed carriage is simply a flatbed, its main function being to transport large volume items. For example, cars. The doors of a train are only slightly larger, and you definitely can’t fit a car inside, even a truck’s carriage would have difficulty. That’s when you would need a flatbed carriage. Furthermore, it could also be used to transport large oil tanks and other items. Not to overstate, but a flatbed carriage could be used not just for cargo, but for carrying passengers as well.
Having taken the carriage card, Lin Wu looked around, his hand moving towards the dagger in his backpack, preparing to clone the murder case of Town No. 1. But after thinking it over, he ultimately did not act. Because the system had once particularly pointed out that this town abides by the basic law, and crime would be punished. Thus, it wouldn’t simply be detention for ten minutes like drinking three cups as a penalty.
Moreover, there were no trash cans nearby, no alleys, no place to dump a body, giving a too low success rate.
Lin Wu walked forward another fifteen meters and saw a narrow alley. He glanced to see if the alley was suitable for hiding a body, but then saw a small sign above the alley: Love Shrimp Road.
Lin Wu called on the walkie-talkie, "Shuihua, I’ve found Love Shrimp Road. But, having roughly checked it out, it’s a large area of alleys, and it’s not just about whether you can find building 130B or not. With my intelligence, once I go in, I probably won’t be able to come out."
This area of the alleys was exceptionally clean, neat and insidious. Almost all the roads looked the same, without even an extra piece of trash, and even the doors of each household were exactly the same. What was more aggravating was that the door numbers were not arranged in order. There were no NPCs in sight in the alleys, meaning no one to ask for directions or to interact with. If the guess was correct, this was also a trap set by Dawn: a maze game.
This couldn’t help but remind Lin Wu of Shana. Although Maya could also solve the maze, Shana was really strong in terms of memory and puzzle-solving. Thinking of Shana, he then thought of the Soulless brothers, followed by Little Knife, Stone. Lin Wu sighed in his heart, truly hoping to see them here. To remind them to pay their respects three times a day? Of course not.
While a reunion had no meaning, he still wanted to see everyone. It had been over 20 days since leaving Shadow, and although Maya didn’t speak of it and Lin Wu didn’t mention it, they often thought of Shadow. Even Nightmare’s ugly face was something he wouldn’t mind seeing again.
They say when you think of something, it appears, and Lin Wu turned his head and saw Nightmare. With his head poked out and a face of mocking amusement, Nightmare looked at Lin Wu. Lin Wu stood still for three seconds, reached out to pinch Nightmare’s face, and pulled it hard twice, then exclaimed in shock, "A real person!"
Nightmare stood up straight, "What did you think?"
Lin Wu confirmed, "It’s a real person." This bird’s unique tone. He glanced at the repeater gun on the weapon rack of this guy’s backpack.
Nightmare looked around, "Where’s Maya?"
"She’s dead."
"Pfft! Without her, you couldn’t possibly have made it to Town No. 10."
Lin Wu neither confirmed nor denied, and asked, "How’s Shadow doing?"
Nightmare offhandedly said, "There are some minor issues."
"Minor issues?"
After retreating to Doomsday Fortress, although the resources and weapons were no problem in addressing hardcore survival, some contradictions emerged within. To put it simply, factions had arisen. It all started with a disagreement over work assignments when Peanut questioned why he was given tough tasks three days in a row. Although Peanut didn’t say much on the spot, he complained afterward.
The situation can simply be understood as though you have two children and you’re trying hard to be fair, but it ends up making both children think you favor the other. The crux of the problem was the lack of an authoritative figure like Maya to lead.
Of course, the discord didn’t arise from just this one thing, but was the result of a build-up of issues. Like not waiting for someone to have their meal, adding someone’s favorite and someone’s hated ingredients to the dishes, or not being serious about the cleaning duties one was responsible for.
Lin Wu had two main roles in the team: one was to self-deprecate and boast, which effectively relieved the tension, and secondly, everyone recognized that he made the greatest contributions to the base, so when he had no complaints about the work arrangements, others had no grounds for objections.
Maya’s role was to always start from the task, not the person. Her principle in assigning work was team efficiency, without bias. Shana, on the other hand, was a bit lacking; she was emotional in her approach, taking into consideration each person’s thoughts and emotions to a greater extent when assigning work.
Fortunately, Stone’s prestige remained intact, and with Starlight’s private coordination, Shadow’s situation remained fairly good. However, to maintain this state, Stone, Starlight, and Shana had to spend several times more energy on meaningless things and had also introduced several rules.
