Chapter 619: Chapter 299: Full Moon
As long as there are people in the carriage, be it animals, zombies, or players, the carriage cannot be destroyed or have its position changed. Once the armor is installed, ordinary zombies cannot damage the carriage, seats, doors, or other system items.
They couldn’t be killed, the sheer number of zombies would crush a person to death. So, what were they to do? The only way was to open the door and let the zombies off the train, but the door could only be opened from the inside, right next to the only door. Besides opening the door from the inside, the only other option was to smash it open from the outside. Not to mention the pain of breaking the door, facing the swarm of zombies, whoever smashed it would die. Lin Wu might be able to escape, but as a powerless man, breaking an armored door would be no easy feat.
Lin Wu exclaimed with joy, "The food for the next six days is settled."
The others were startled at first, but quickly got goosebumps and hit Lin Wu on the back. After hitting him, they continued to worry. What to do next?
Maya didn’t have a good solution and could only say, "Let it be for now."
Lin Wu translated, "When we reach the next Human Town, we can threaten the mayor to hand over all supplies, or else we will release zombies."
Maya punched Lin Wu and walked away, with everyone returning to the dormitory carriage, sitting on the beds and zoning out together.
Shuihua announced, "Random task, Grade B, accept or not?"
They looked at each other, could it be that Dawn had given them a special task? Maya said, "Accept."
Everyone headed to the front of the train where Shuihua read out the task, "Quality Sleep: Half of the members must enter sleep within 3 minutes. Task reward: High-grade Exclusive Bedding. Task failure: All bedding, including beds, will be confiscated."
Damn it! Everyone’s face fell, and Maya ordered, "Shuihua, set the speed and go to sleep yourself." The more people asleep, the better their chances.
Five people quickly lay down on their own beds.
Three minutes later, the task failed. Only Shuihua and Lin Wu had managed to fall asleep. The entire dormitory carriage instantly became eerily empty, and Lin Wu and Shuihua were placed on the ground by the system while still asleep.
Hong Yi checked the storage and reported, "All the bedding’s gone, only three blankets left."
Qinglang laid the blankets on the cold ground and woke the two up, "Sleep on the blankets."
Upon waking, the two sat up, looked around, and exclaimed, "Gone?" What were you all doing? Was it that hard to fall asleep?
"Gone."
Shuihua headed to the front of the train and announced, "Infinite Challenge Task, use 5 complete blankets, bedding, or sleeping bags to challenge the sleep task. If successful, all bedding will be returned; if failed, all challenge items will be confiscated."
Lin Wu angrily said, "Is Dawn being this flagrant in bullying people now?"
Qinglang tried to console him, "Misfortunes never come singly; now we have double trouble. From now on, only good things will come."
"Aha," Lin Wu slapped his palm as if realizing something, "Can we switch to Line 1?"
"What happened?"
"Thinking about Qinglang’s words, what other bad things could there be?" He thought of the full moon. The train was set to arrive in the town at 3 PM, but what did that have to do with the full moon? Since the full moon didn’t relate to time, it must relate to other items. Lin Wu asked the others, "What comes to mind when you think of the full moon?"
Qinglang answered, "Love!"
"Hmm?" Everyone else was puzzled.
Qinglang said, "Chang’e!"
Lin Wu asked, "Does Chang’e not live during the crescent moon?"
Caught off guard, Qinglang fell silent in thought.
Shuihua said, "I think of mooncakes."
Qinglang laughed, "Foodie."
Shuihua smiled back, showing her teeth.
Hong Yi thought, "I think of the sun."
A more typical response, but Maya’s answer was, "I think of a wolf pack."
Lin Wu nodded, "Yes, a wolf pack, wolves howl at the full moon."
Hong Yi added, "The system indicated that Town 5 has no zombies, but it didn’t mention humans or that it is a Human Town. So considering this, Town 5 has no zombies and no humans, only animals, only wolves, a pack of wolves."
Maya said, "We’re not required to do any tasks. If it’s as Lin Wu says, when we arrive, we’ll immediately depart."
As the guide, Hong Yi disagreed with Maya’s idea, "If we don’t get off the train to look for route information and rely solely on the vague hints I can provide, we might be tricked by Dawn again." The deeper they got into the game, the more they realized Dawn was not human. No, it never was human; it was a thing. It seemed to take pleasure from playing with the players.
Lin Wu said, "I’ll get off and check it out when we arrive." If he couldn’t escape, then others were sure to die.
Maya affirmed, "Okay, let’s go with that."
Qinglang asked, "Can we use a cutting tool to cut a circular hole in the hallway door, so we can clear the zombies from the passenger cars through it?"
Maya nodded, "That’s an option." The response was noncommittal.
Qinglang looked at Lin Wu, who said, "I’ll keep an eye out."
Hong Yi declared, "I’ll prepare lunch, everyone else take a break."
...
Town 5 was T-shaped, with the train station at the crossing point. The train slid slowly to a halt and everyone looked out to see an eerie silence. Opening the carriage door, Lin Wu slipped out and into the waiting room, did a quick sweep, and reported back via walkie-talkie, "No sign of any living creatures, nor any useful items. It looks like humans methodically removed everything. I’m heading to West Street now."
Maya responded, "Roger that, be careful on your own."
"Got it!" West Street was a commercial street lined with bars, shops, performance halls, and livestock stores, all deserted, without a single person or zombie in sight. The wind blew, kicking up dust from the street. A newspaper fluttered past Lin Wu from the left, who immediately gave chase and caught it ten meters away.
