Chapter 618: Chapter 298 Lively_3
The primary reason they were still able to hold the line was that Maya had added armor to the train, making all doors and windows impregnable. Otherwise, the crushing pressure from the passenger cars would have broken the doors by now.
Maya stood on the outer boarding ladder at the head of the train, watching how the humans who failed to catch up were tackled down by zombies. Furthermore, massive hordes of zombies were surrounding both sides of the railway track, but they posed no threat to the train now picking up speed.
Maya walked through several carriages until she reached the supply carriage. Looking through the glass of the carriage door, she paused, at a loss, "Any good suggestions?"
Lin Wu replied, "Detach the passenger cars."
Qinglang gave a thumbs up; it was indeed a good idea. The greatest threat to the players right now was not zombies, not energy or food, but these hundred-plus NPCs.
"Can’t detach while not in idle state," Maya turned back and called, "Hong Yi, information on the upcoming route."
Hong Yi quickly came over and said, "Line 1: Calm. Line 2: Full Moon. They both seem to suggest something about the night."
Checking the time, it was eleven in the morning. If they were referring to night, it meant that the train wouldn’t reach the town until nighttime. Calm probably wasn’t bad; even if there were no humans, at least there wouldn’t be zombies. Full Moon indicated brightness.
Lin Wu suggested, "Could Calm be the opposite of Full Moon?"
Maya asked, "What do you mean?"
Lin Wu explained, "Line 1 is a dark world. No regular zombies, no humans, but there are Night Demons. Line 2, on the contrary, will not have Night Demons."
Qinglang handed Maya a coin, "When any choice could be wrong, leave it to God."
Lin Wu raised a thumbs up, "Even if we choose poorly, we’ll have someone to blame."
Maya swatted away Lin Wu’s thumbs up, caught the coin she tossed in the air, and without looking at it, said, "Shuihua, take Line 2." As the coin fell, she already knew which path she preferred.
Hong Yi asked, "What about them?"
Everyone looked through the carriage window at the passenger compartment for a while. Maya said, "They won’t suffocate, they don’t need to use the bathroom, we’ll let them out at the next stop."
They got the information on their side: "Estimated arrival at Town No. 5 at 3 p.m. Note: No zombies in town."
Everyone clapped, giving Maya thumbs up, and she nodded slightly in response.
At that moment, there was commotion in the passenger cars. Looking through the window, they could only see chaos inside without discerning the reason. Passengers were shouting and looking horrified, but they all stayed in place. Of course, they had no choice but to stay.
Qinglang pressed his face to the window, "Oh my god, there are zombies. It looks like some passengers were already infected with the virus before boarding."
The passengers desperately pounded on the carriage doors. Everyone looked at Maya, weapons in hand, but Maya said, "Do not open the doors."
Shuihua yelled, "We’re about to go through a tunnel."
Something clicked in Maya’s mind, and she hurried to open a window and stick her head out to shout to the passengers on the roof, "We’re going through a tunnel, everybody..." She was cut off as Lin Wu yanked her back in; a second later, and her head would have been smashed. The tunnels of that era were built to very tight specifications, just big enough for a train to pass through, with precious little spare room.
After the tunnel, it was unlikely that anyone would be left on the roof.
What’s worse, after passing through the tunnel, a full carriage of passengers would become a full carriage of zombies.
