Chapter 583: Chapter 286: Taming the Horse_2

Looking at the tuft of hair in his hand, then at the horses fleeing for their lives, Lin Wu rolled down the slope into the hollow and flipped onto his back to gaze at the blue sky: "Where did I throw the wood?"

So tired! After walking 40 kilometers, Hong Yi didn’t spare a whiff of sympathy for him, just sent him out to find wood. Heavens, when had he ever suffered like this? Normally, he’d slack off whenever possible, and even when he couldn’t, he’d still find a way to skirt his duties. What made it worse was that he wasn’t even allowed to catch the horses. Why should he? He was supposed to blast their brains out and eat their meat, putting them on display for the others.

His whole body was sore and aching; he didn’t want to move and couldn’t find a reason to complain.

Speaking of which, the herd had picked a great spot. The ground was covered in soft water grass, with a layer of spring water beneath. Lying on top of it felt incomparably cozy.

No choice, if no one else would do it, he’d have to do it himself.

Just as Lin Wu prepared to sit up from his supine position, he saw a horse’s head, a very cocky horse’s head. This horse had a white forehead and an all-black body, with long beard hair that fluttered freely in the wind. Isn’t that itchy?

He called the horse cocky because it wasn’t afraid of Lin Wu at all. It walked up to him and stared at him for a couple of seconds, as if trying to figure out what he was. But the look in its eyes wasn’t curiosity but disdain, and even disgust, as if Lin Wu was impeding on its grassy dining spot.

Lin Wu was intimidated by its assertiveness and didn’t move for a moment, while the Black Horse started eating carelessly. When it got to Lin Wu’s legs, it even nudged his legs aside with its nose, showing absolute disregard for his presence.

Although Lin Wu wasn’t familiar with riding horses and had a fear of taming them, he couldn’t stand being humiliated by a beast. He thus flipped up onto his feet. But he hadn’t anticipated the Black Horse being so tall; he couldn’t swing his leg over its back and had to lay across it, essentially sprawling on the horse’s back.

The Black Horse, startled, took off running. The slight incline was nothing to it as it leaped up. When the Black Horse landed, the rebound force launched Lin Wu into the air. The highly agile Lin Wu, fighting the tossing in his stomach, took the opportunity to sit astride its back.

The Black Horse started galloping and bucking on the spot. Lin Wu instantly felt as if his eggs had been cracked multiple times, a surge of pain making him scream involuntarily. Could it be? Is it this painful for a man to ride a horse? No wonder equestrianism is the sport of nobles. He hadn’t expected that this was just the first wave. The second move: The Black Horse lifted its hind hooves high, tilted at a 45-degree angle, hung briefly in the air, then slammed its hooves hard onto the ground.

Damn it! His eggs turned into springs, launching him into the air. Lin Wu clenched the beard hair and shouted, "Painkillers, Maya, painkillers." Flung into the air again, he came crashing down. One takeoff, twice the pain.

After five major lift-offs, there were countless smaller, frequent jolts. The Black Horse, instead of running properly, bowed its back and hopped to and fro with alternating front and hind hooves. Lin Wu, in excruciating pain, held on thanks to his high attributes and still clung tightly to the horse’s back.

Black Horse’s third move came: a rapid dash at high speed. Speedy, very speedy. Lin Wu, always a skeptic, guessed Black Horse’s intention almost instantly. During its mad dash, the horse suddenly executed a sharp halt, its hooves grinding left and right against the grass. Despite being prepared, Lin Wu almost tumbled off, but once again, the long beard hair steadied him.

Seeing the third move failed, the Black Horse tried a fourth move, running wildly again, this time towards the slope below. Lin Wu clung to the beard hair, vowing to pluck it bare. Maya, who was scouting for prey, only saw a black lightning bolt flash by, followed by Lin Wu’s shout, "Painkillers!"

This wasn’t good! Maya hurriedly pursued on foot. She saw the Black Horse gallop down the slope, turn towards the canyon, and head for Blood Heart Ranch. Maya rushed to the edge of the canyon and looked down, seeing the horse still charging. After knocking over two Blood Zombies, it faced the ranch’s windmill.

Watching the slowly turning blades of the windmill, Maya instantly understood Black Horse’s intent and yelled from above, "Duck, duck."

Whether Lin Wu heard her or not, he ducked his head, hugging his body close to Black Horse. The windmill’s blade swept over his head, taking with it a tuft of hair and a streak of fresh blood.

Damn it, if you’re trying to kill me, I’ll take you down first. Lin Wu reflexively grabbed a steak knife from his backpack’s weapon rack and stabbed it into Black Horse’s back. The horse neighed in pain, desperately sprinting forward. Lin Wu clung to the steak knife, placing his bet that the Black Horse would die first.

Titan, along with two Frenzy underlings and a dozen zombies, was strolling inside the ranch warehouse. Suddenly, there was a loud bang. A horse crashed through the wooden wall, flashed past them, and burst out of the warehouse breaking through another wall. All the zombies let out a half-hearted howl, then continued their patrol, pretending they saw nothing.

...

Black Horse finally slowed down, but it was not yet subdued and struggled fiercely, blood flowing even more with the struggle. Soon, as it walked slower and slower, it began to slip, falling to the ground after several slips. Lin Wu gently landed, touched his scalp, and found his hand covered in blood. He sneered and said, "Run? Why aren’t you running now?" He walked up, pulled out the steak knife, and retrieved a high-grade bandage from his backpack, applying it to the horse’s wound.

Having done all this, Lin Wu sat down to the side, exhausted. This day had drained his entire ten months’ worth of exercise in the Shadow.
