Chapter 572: Chapter 282 Sleepless Night_2
Completely different from Future City. Due to the vast land and sparse population, the threat of zombies is actually smaller for hardcore gamers here. Their survival pressure comes from the scarcity of food and water, as well as the wolves that roam around. Thinking about it, Dawn’s perfecting of the animal system wasn’t just a problem for Shadow; it was a problem for everyone in the world.
Without the need for sleep, the two leaned against the wall side by side, watching the fire and chatting occasionally. What they talked and thought about were the matters concerning Shadow and North Town. It indirectly showed that they were not satisfied with their current situation and had not completely broken away from their roles as members of Shadow.
"Will they hold a memorial service for us?"
"No," Maya replied succinctly.
"Bathe, farm, fish, read, establish an all-in-one service, and we haven’t even enjoyed it for two days." Maya didn’t answer; she didn’t know how to respond to Lin Wu’s seemingly self-talk. After about a minute’s pause, Lin Wu said, "They won’t miss us, but they will miss Wai."
Wai, lying on the ground, nodded his head as if in agreement, and Lin Wu said to him, "You are a Hunting Dog, we don’t expect you to guard against zombies, but at least you should help us ward off the wild beasts, right?"
Wai looked at his master with a bad premonition.
Lin Wu said, "The time to test your abilities has come, go fetch some branches for me."
The command was too complex; Wai did not understand, and Maya extended her hand, "Come here."
Lin Wu waved for it to go over, Wai went to Maya’s side, resting his head on Maya’s feet, and Maya stroked his head, saying, "We need to find high-rise buildings similar to signal towers. I believe players won’t live by the highway. But I’m sure there will be players around the towns."
Lin Wu said slowly, "No rush, right? With water and wolves everywhere, there’s food and drink."
Maya said, "One, to understand the situation better, and two, to prepare for survival in the future. Don’t forget, this month we’ll face another typhoon."
Lin Wu looked outside, "A typhoon in the Gobi?"
Maya also paused, "That doesn’t seem quite right."
Lin Wu submitted a complaint with a flick of his hand, "Why would there be a typhoon in the Gobi terrain?"
That’s technology for you. If you ask if there’s a typhoon, they’ll tell you it’s game mechanics. If you ask why the Gobi doesn’t have typhoons, they’ll counter with "Have you ever seen a typhoon in the Gobi?" Lin Wu posed a counter-question, and Little White Rabbit had to explain why the game contradicted common sense.
Little White Rabbit: "Normally, the Gobi terrain would not be hit by typhoons. But this is a game, the whole server will be hit by a typhoon."
Lin Wu asked, "Why will the typhoon hit tomorrow?"
Little White Rabbit answered, "I will not answer questions about the future."
Lin Wu waved it away, telling it to scram, and said to Maya, "There really is a typhoon."
Maya said, "Rainfall is not a problem. Given the terrain, it’s almost impossible for there to be standing water. We need a place to shelter from the wind and rain, and we need food. Starting tomorrow, we need to pay attention to food, and we can hunt some game to make dried meat. Even if we find players, even if they are kind, it’s unlikely they will be able to supply us with food for many days, so we must prepare ourselves."
Mocking, Lin Wu asked, "What if the typhoon really comes tomorrow?"
Maya replied, "Then eat me, I’ll respawn." Only Magic can defeat Magic.
Lin poked, "You can only be eaten for a minute."
Maya: "Then you better make the most of it."
"Heh."
Silence fell for a moment, then Maya spoke up, "I’m glad to have an optimistic companion by my side in my hardest times."
Lin Wu sighed, "Congratulations to you, I’m not that lucky."
Maya fell silent for a while and then asked, "You won’t feel comfortable unless you hit me, will you?"
Lin Wu grinned, "I’ve also thought about some things regarding home. Look, Left County’s North Town and Right County’s North Down Town are not far from each other. Right County is a plain, and Left County is a mountainous region, two completely different terrains. Maybe we’re not far from Left County."
There’s no denying that what Lin Wu said could be the case. However, with Maya’s geographical knowledge, she knew that the terrain of Tech City was vast. The problem wasn’t so much the distance between the two, but the area of each one. In a normal district, you can drive for a few hours and exit the district from any of the four cardinal directions. But in an erosive terrain, you might not leave the area even after driving for 24 hours. The areas are very large and full of uninhabited zones; sometimes you can drive for hours without seeing a single person or a building.
In some regions, the two closest township-level residential spots could be hundreds of kilometers apart, something that many people find hard to imagine.
Maya didn’t voice her thoughts, partly because she didn’t want to dampen Lin Wu’s spirits, although he didn’t care about distances. Secondly, she wasn’t sure if the typhoon could change the fact that the Gobi might not be as large as it seemed.
There weren’t many new players in North Town of Left County. After moving to Left County, Shadow had minimal contact with the outside world. Maya hadn’t heard of any players reviving from the desert terrain, so it was hard to draw conclusions.
After an unknown period of silence, Lin Wu said, "I’m also glad that my companion is you."
"Thank you," Maya responded as Lin Wu seemed about to say more, "Is it too early to thank me?"
"Heh, no." There was supposed to be a following line: rather than Stone. Maybe Shana hoped that Lin Wu would only say half each time, because the next line once spoken would inevitably lead to a fight.
A wolf howl came from a distance; Lin Wu looked at Maya, Maya nodded, and Lin Wu launched a drone. They both wanted to know the size of the wolf pack.
