Chapter 563: Chapter 279: Defending the City (Part 2)

Cotton and Little Knife were guarding the small gate in the fence, and compared to Cotton, Little Knife’s gun skills were much worse. Positioned to the left and right, Cotton took over 70% of the headshot rate. Hence, when Cotton was changing his magazine, zombies breached the small gate, and Little Knife put down his gun to fight hand-to-hand with the zombies, standing alone to block them. Seeing this, Shana immediately said, "Stone, to the rescue plan."

The armored vehicle started up and charged towards the fence, crushing zombies along the way, and made a tail spin turn just before reaching the fence. Because the vehicle made noise, it became the primary target for the zombies, and in no time it was swarming with them. Stone watched the durability of the armored vehicle slowly dropping and shifted gears while slamming on the accelerator, the armored vehicle roaring as it ran. Along the way, it was impossible to count how many zombies it crushed, but it finally made a beautiful drift, flinging a large number of zombies outside the safety zone. Stone then took the opportunity to drive the armored vehicle just outside the safety zone and turned off the engine.

The newly spawned zombies, along with those that had survived earlier, turned away and no longer paid attention to Stone, continuing their charge towards the west gate.

The resting Stone explained, "The farmland is completely destroyed, the zombies are dismantling the research institute."

But no one paid attention to him, as everyone was fully immersed in the shooting game. Without the resources for firing in quick succession, everyone switched to single shots, pursuing a high headshot rate. Among these challenges, the various mutant zombies created the most trouble, and Lin Wu’s performance became a critical factor in determining how long everyone could hold out.

Maya: "Titan."

"I see it," Lin Wu replied, switching to the Forest Wolf and aiming, hitting the Titan zombie right in the head outside the east gate. Already familiar with the Titan’s rhythm, Lin Wu took another headshot before the Titan could stabilize and then continued headshotting until the final shot blew the Titan’s head apart.

After taking care of the Titan, Lin Wu immediately switched to the Continuous Silencer and opened fire on three Frenzy zombies racing over corpses, killing two and a half Frenzy under rapid-fire before running out of bullets in the magazine. Without time to reload, he drew his pistol and continued shooting, finally killing the last Frenzy four meters in front of the sandbags.

Maya, who was always vigilant, witnessed Lin Wu’s actions and realized she had made a slight oversight. Lin Wu, being in a position for three-dimensional shooting, was inherently at a disadvantage against the Frenzy charging on a flat terrain.

To lower Lin Wu’s position? Absolutely not, because the Frenzy would pounce on him. Even if the Frenzy reached inside the sandbag positions, at most people would only get injured, but if the Frenzy disturbed Lin Wu, it could lead to an unpredictable chain reaction. Watching as Lin Wu barely had any rest and quickly reloaded three guns, he then picked up the Continuous Silencer and laid out a barrage, killing two more Frenzy, three Screamers, and two Exploding Carnage.

As the siege entered its second minute, the number of ordinary zombies noticeably decreased, but the proportion of mutant zombies began to increase. Taking advantage of the 10-second buffer time provided by the system, Maya said, "Ammo check, approximate counts."

After hearing the numbers, Maya felt good as everyone’s ammo consumption was between 10% and 15%. The first minute was a battle of attrition, depleting the players’ bullets. The second minute tested the players’ aim, as the zombies in the three-direction assault became less numerous, greatly reducing their interference and crowding. Although players faced many fewer zombies, the zombies’ impact was relatively stronger.

Maya said, "You can use cold weapons as appropriate, but judge the situation for yourself."

The second wave of the siege came with a variety of zombie troops employing tactics and fully utilizing the width of the field. However, due to the triangular position, the zombies inevitably crowded towards it. As long as the zombies slowed down, the players’ headshot rate immediately increased. Among all members, Lin Wu and Maya had the highest shooting accuracy. Lin Wu benefited from the continuous fire and almost recoilless nature of his firearms. If a shot missed, he could instinctively follow up with another based on where the bullet landed.

Maya primarily used a pistol, firing with both hands, relying on wrist rotation to harvest the zombies’ heads. Nightmare was a good shot, but unfortunately, he was assigned 7.62 bullets, leading to high recoil and somewhat less efficiency compared to Lin Ma.

They repelled the second wave without much trouble, and the third wave had fewer zombies, but mutant zombies made up 50%, mainly Frenzy and Exploding Carnage.

Facing the third wave’s assault, everyone was a bit puzzled. Why were the Exploding Carnage racing ahead with their legs pumping, while the Frenzy howled at the sky in place? Peanut immediately shot an Exploding Carnage, and after it exploded, a ring of poison mist spread out. The poison mist drifted with the wind towards the triangular position.

Everyone became frantic, realizing that the zombies had begun using wind to deploy biological weapons.

An Incendiary Grenade was tossed by Lin Wu. The bursting flames ignited the poison mist, sparking flames that in turn ignited the Exploding Carnage running about, a series of explosions continuously sounding within the factory.

The situation didn’t pose much threat to the rear team; they were upwind and could simply shoot the Exploding Carnage to detonate them.

Stone’s voice came through, "Stop blowing them up, the command center’s durability has dropped by 20%." After one round, not just the command center, but also the two buildings designated for critical protection had lost 10% of their durability.

Nightmare asked, "Go for the head?"

Making headshots was very difficult. Exploding Carnage had large bodies, thin legs, small heads, and they would explode upon falling. The explosion created poison mist which had to be dispelled with incendiary grenades, but using them could trigger chain explosions.

Maya didn’t respond but calmly watched the battlefield, seizing the opportunity, she said, "Nightmare, move up." The two climbed out of the triangular position and advanced eight meters—one targeting the Exploding Carnage entering from the north gate with single shots, the other doing the same with those entering from the south gate. Lin Wu blocked the eastern parking lot, shooting the Exploding Carnage as far away as possible. If the Exploding Carnage detonated outside the factory, their poison gas naturally wouldn’t drift into the triangular position.
