Chapter 493: Chapter 250 Search_3
This skill excels in utilizing darkness to dive into stealth, but if the light exceeds a certain intensity, it will break concealment. Shadow Break is a Tier 8 blessing with a duration of 15 minutes, which means once Shadow Break is triggered, the Stealth skill cannot be activated again within 15 minutes.
Lin Wu’s passive Stealth skill also gets a significant boost at night, and, with Peanut’s night vision ability and Cotton’s Dive, they are perfectly equipped as a nocturnal team. Sadly, their team leader has no advantages for night operations. Besides, sleeping is better in the wee hours of the night.
Cotton dived between two rows of greenery, swiftly executing kills with high efficiency. However, these rows of plants didn’t lead towards the office building, and so Cotton reluctantly left stealth, which immediately slowed her advance.
Could they operate at night? No, because the storage area had streetlights. Would it work in a place with no streetlights at night? Still no; firstly, places without lights generally have fewer resources, and secondly, the Dive ability does not include night vision, and flashlights can’t be used either, so there’s the possibility of tripping and falling to one’s death.
Although the skill is excellent, it comes with many limitations and only shows its brilliance under specific conditions.
When Lin Wu reached the office building and circled back, he assisted Cotton in clearing the zombies along her path. After busily cooperating for a while, Maya and Peanut caught up. Cotton and Lin Wu worked together to eliminate the zombies in each office, while Maya and Peanut were responsible for searching for clues. As they were clearing the area, the zombie activity nearby was quite high, so Maya and Peanut moved very carefully, handling everything with utmost care and maintaining stealth throughout.
The usual bold and joking work atmosphere had changed, impressing upon Peanut the gravity of their situation for the first time.
After clearing one area, Peanut stood up and accidentally knocked over a glass cup. Hearing the sound of the glass hitting the floor and shattering, a few zombies from both sides of the office building, unlike their usual sluggish and perfunctory behavior, immediately rushed towards the source of the noise. Maya and Peanut easily disposed of the zombies. Just when they thought the incident was over, a slacking zombie arrived half a minute later than its comrades.
The zombie saw the two players from the office door, but instead of charging at them, it let out a howl that sounded like clearing sputum, not just unpleasant to the ears but also less impacting in volume than screaming, and it only howled halfway. Therefore, the zombies it summoned were fewer than expected—only eight in total.
However, one of the zombies came from behind, crashing through a window to enter the office. The noise it caused was as loud as the zombie’s half-hearted howl, attracting a few more zombies.
It wasn’t much of an issue for Maya, with her Repeating Crossbow at hand, she promptly took them down one by one. But when one of the zombies fell, it broke an already shattered fish tank, drawing in a few more zombies. After a few rounds of such hassle, Maya and Peanut were somewhat exhausted; after all, everything had started with a single cup. Consequently, they became even more cautious in their subsequent tasks.
After clearing the offices upstairs, Cotton went to dispose of the trash in the corridor. Her Detection skill is passive; it gives you results whether you want them or not. Every time she killed a zombie, the Corpse Looting was automatically completed, leading to a continuous increase in her backpack weight. The trash she dumped included not just material scraps but also marbles, coins, banknotes, lighters, matches, tickets, and other miscellaneous items.
Sympathizing with Cotton, Lin Wu immediately lodged a complaint. It wasn’t that he thought these items were useless—after all, in the apocalypse, any trash could have a purpose. He complained because he believed that Cotton was a hardworking person, who sometimes preferred to actively engage in Corpse Looting herself. Preventing her from passing on the traditional virtue of diligence was discrimination, a crime.
Even though Cotton couldn’t see Little White Rabbit, she could hear Lin Wu talking. Her worldview was shattered at least five times in those brief two minutes.
Now, looking back, Cotton’s impression of Lin Wu was that he should be a somewhat naïve, sunny, friendly, and lively young man. But based on their interactions over the past few days, she felt it was not at all the case.
