Chapter 492: Chapter 250 Search_2

While everyone was scavenging for supplies, Maya flipped through the work journal in the office and found out that all the cement in the warehouse was produced by a suburban cement factory. Besides that, there was another piece of information. Two weeks before the warehouse was to operate normally, it received a task. As part of the anti-virus efforts, the cement warehouse was to take in 500 kilograms of cement transferred from other warehouses. The fact that the cement was accounted for by kilogram caught Maya’s attention, so she read on intently.

Holding the work journal, Maya found the 10 bags of cement placed in the southeast corner. These 10 bags had different packaging and parameters, the only commonality being that each weighed 50 kilograms. Each bag of cement also had a nameplate attached, which meticulously described its features, with a reference price at the end.

Obviously, these 10 bags of cement were samples. If the exhibition hall was far away, there would be no need to transport them to the warehouse. After all, it’s just cement; it doesn’t matter if it expires, as the customers are more concerned with the physical product and its details. The most likely scenario was that the cement exhibition hall was nearby, perhaps inside one warehouse. Because the Anti-zombie Virus Command needed it, the exhibition hall was cleared out.

So, what was in the exhibition hall?

Maya looked for clues while Lin Wu and the others did the grunt work. Six packs of building materials meant they had to make two trips for the three of them. They picked up a pack of building materials each, huffing and puffing as they ran back to the base to store it in the warehouse, then ran back again for another pack. Expanding the base required 250 packs of building materials, so a lot of toil lay ahead.

Each way was 240 meters, nearly a kilometer for two round trips, and each pack of building materials weighed 10 kilograms. Adding their weapons and gear, each person’s load was about 20 kilograms. Running this kilometer, physical strength became a direct highlight. The main body, Lin Wu, found it fairly easy, but he did feel the unique fatigue after the update. The secondary body, Cotton, didn’t have much trouble either.

Peanut, who was agile and strong, couldn’t keep up with everyone towards the end of each trip. After barely managing to transport the building materials back to the Doomsday Fortress, he propped himself against a wall, panting. Just like a real person, he caught his breath quickly. Then, with another 10-kilogram load, he ran to the warehouse with ease. However, when Peanut carried 20 kilograms back to the Doomsday Fortress, his condition was the same or even worse than the first time. He chugged two bottles of water and cursed Hardcore Mode.

Suddenly, Peanut exclaimed, "My Physical Strength has increased by 0.01% of a star."

Lin Wu and Cotton, perhaps due to their higher star levels or simply not noticing, suggested after hearing Peanut that sprinting with a 50-kilogram bag of cement could potentially increase physical strength experience quickly.

Under the lead of the buffoon Lin Wu, Maya, who was busy collecting clues, witnessed a bizarre scene. The three subordinates each hoisted a bag of cement and started running circles on the empty ground outside the warehouse. Less than two laps in, one dropped out, then the second, followed by the third. They lay on the ground panting like half-dead dogs, while the real dog Wai ran around them.

"What were you thinking?"

"Gaining experience."

"Did you gain any?"

"Yeah, 0.02%."

"And then?"

"Then I suggest we rest for today."

Right, if you’ve used up all your stamina, how can you work today? Even if you wanted to train, you should be running a marathon, focusing on endurance. And you, Peanut, at least others have a stat boost to Physical Strength. What about you? Carrying cement for a month might add just one star of Physical Strength at most. I’m asking you: What can you do with one star of Physical Strength?

Normally, the three seemed quick-witted, but now when they got together, they turned into... something. Maya didn’t want to say that word. Seeing that the spirits of the three were spent, she had no choice but to withdraw the troops and head back to the Doomsday Fortress to rest for a few hours before deciding whether to assign more work.

The three headed back to the base with their heads drooping, each collapsing onto their beds, with Lin Wu not wanting to move at all. Through his headset, he said, "Dashuang, bring me a bottle of water."

After sleeping for two hours and having stir-fried rice for lunch, Lin Wu felt somewhat revitalized. It wasn’t until now that Lin Wu and Cotton had finally come to grips with the realistic settings and began to take fatigue seriously. Previously, fatigue was a benefit, affecting the system’s calculated combat power. Now, fatigue was a state of the body. Fortunately, there was no status such as muscle soreness, or perhaps Dawn was just too kind.

However, Peanut had no interest in lunch, his mental state was terrible, his eyes hollow. Upon consulting with Emerald Feather, it turned out Peanut had suffered a heatstroke, causing yet another hour to go to waste. It wasn’t until three in the afternoon that the team was able to head out again.

This time, everyone was smarter. They not only cleared out their backpacks but also avoided direct sunlight as much as possible to preserve their energy.

Because of the outrageous behavior of the three enforcers in the morning, Maya had ample time to analyze the clues and had already determined that Warehouse 307 was the target. The task for the afternoon was to take over the office in the warehouse area and locate Warehouse 307.

The office was a two-story building with eight rooms located near the warehouse gate. The surrounding area was densely populated with zombies; however, there were very few Mutant Zombies, with an estimated ratio of about 40 to 1. There were no Titans, two Frenzies, three Wind Stingers, and two Exploding Carnages.

Lin Wu used a Silencer to snipe the Exploding Carnages from a distance; these creatures were a nightmare in close quarters combat. Then, Lin Wu and Cotton spread out to the left and right, relying on Stealth to clear zombies from their path. When compared, Lin Wu’s progress was very swift, while Cotton was more cautious. Lacking the Wind Stinger and Stealth skills, Cotton made use of the ’Dive’ skill instead.

Players with the Dive skill could activate it among bushes, piles of trash, and other such cluttered objects. For example, it would be impossible to initiate the Dive skill in an orderly cement warehouse, but it could be done in an overgrown football field. If the player remained motionless in Stealth mode for more than 3 seconds in a suitable environment, the Dive skill would activate, rendering the player invisible. They could then move around in the same scene while maintaining their invisibility status.
