Chapter 438: Chapter 228 A1_2

The closest firepower point was on Highway 99 going north toward the plantation forest. Following the road uphill and crossing two mountains, one would arrive at Husband Waiting Cliff, which was 1,500 meters above sea level. Husband Waiting Cliff used to be a forest ranger’s fire-watcher tower.

The fire-watcher tower’s firepower point had two main features. The first was difficulty—there was no road to Husband Waiting Cliff, so one must blaze their own trail. The second was its fierceness—among the more than ten firepower points in Left County, two used 204 mm heavy artillery, while the others were equipped with 155 mm howitzers.

Maya stood beside Shana, who was drawing a map and explaining, "First, we’ll walk 15 kilometers to the side of Leopard Head Mountain, where there is a ranger’s path. Following this path for about 12 kilometers should get us near Husband Waiting Cliff."

Looking at the map, Maya commented, "It’s easy to get lost."

Shana said confidently, "I am certain."

Maya asked, "You plan to make Lin Wu hike nearly 30 kilometers of mountain road?"

Shana answered, "The zombies are scarce in the mountains, so he doesn’t need to go."

Maya inquired, "Are you comfortable going into unexplored and dangerous areas without Lin Wu?"

Shana responded firmly, "No problem. Horse Soul, Peanut and I can make the run."

Maya nodded and suggested, "Better set out tomorrow. Make some more clothes today."

Shana asserted, "I won’t die."

Maya said decisively, "Then you decide. We need to make a trip to A1 today."

As Little Knife passed by, he asked, "What’s my task today?"

Shana told him, "Rest with Snow Egg."

Little Knife, confused, heard Maya explain bluntly, "We have two dangerous missions today; you two shouldn’t be involved. Shana, take more essential supplies. Even if you get lost, find a way to survive. That’s to prevent you and Nightmare from dying within 24 hours."

Shana didn’t argue and acknowledged, "Understood."

Little Knife, tugging at Maya’s sleeve, said, "Maya, we weren’t married before, and we didn’t see anyone dying either."

With patience, Maya explained, "Times have changed. Just look at last night’s battle; some are still not discharged from the hospital. We’ll be facing not just zombies but mutant zombies and possibly combat with NPCs. That’s the decision."

The married soldiers split into two groups, one headed to the skies, the other underground. After Lin Wu transferred the temporary custody of Wai to Stone through the system, he set out with Maya and Nightmare.

It was said that Lin Wu’s group represented the pinnacle of Shadow combat power. With a repeating crossbow, a dagger, and a silenced pistol, they advanced easily. Unless they encountered a Titan, no zombies could stand in their way. After entering The Day After Tomorrow Luxury Building, Lin Wu didn’t need to use Stealth. Maya and Nightmare alternated leading the way, making smooth progress to the first underground level.

Pushing open a door, a dark staircase leading downward appeared before the three of them.

Leading the way, Nightmare said, "There’s no danger along this stretch."

Lin Wu asked, "How did you die last time?"

Pause for a moment, Nightmare continued walking and responded, "Would you believe me if I said I don’t know?"

Lin Wu replied, "No."

Nightmare said, "Let’s talk about it later."

Continuing their descent and taking a left at the fork, they walked for about half a minute when the path suddenly opened up before them.

It was a two-meter-wide corridor. Of course, two meters was not enough for it to be considered suddenly open. The corridor was 15 meters long, and on the left side of it, there was a rectangular pool of the same length. The pool had flowing water, and every three meters a small rock statue stood about 1.2 meters tall. There were also many red koi happily swimming in the water.

To the right of the corridor was a bamboo grove, complete with paths, stone drums, and stone tables, designed with distinctive characteristics.

Nightmare crouched at the entrance, watching ahead and said, "I walked about half of the distance in Stealth mode, then I died."

Maya asked, "Were you poisoned?"

Nightmare shook her head. "It felt strange. I looked around but found nothing. I took one more step, everything went dark, and the next thing I knew, I was at a seaside villa."

Lin Wu expressed surprise, "Your respawn waiting area is a seaside villa?"

Nightmare questioned, "What about it?"

Lin Wu revealed, "Shana respawns in a solitary cell."

Nightmare, taken aback, replied, "Her score is that low?"

Lin Wu sighed, "The more you die, the lower it gets." Although, Shana had been living longer lately, several months without dying.

Maya called out, "Lin Wu."

Although Lin Wu was one of their own, in the face of unknown enemy situations and considering his exceptional Survival ability, it was natural for him to lead the way.

Lin Wu nodded and crept forward, quickly reaching the midpoint, the location of Nightmare’s death, and stopped. Maya, alert, aimed her gun around, asking, "Any discoveries?"

Lin Wu answered, "Nothing."

Maya looked at Nightmare, who nodded in understanding. Lin Wu continued forward, and Maya followed, examining the pool and the bamboo grove even more carefully. Like Lin Wu, she found nothing amiss. Lin Wu reached the end of the path and stood in front of the door to Laboratory A1, while Maya stayed on guard at the midpoint.

Lin Wu came out of Stealth and stood up, announcing, "It’s safe."

Nightmare walked out of the entrance, full of puzzlement, and said, "Maya, you go first."

After watching Maya reach Lin Wu, Nightmare instructed, "Cover me."

Having said that, Nightmare turned right and entered the bamboo grove. Lin Wu and Maya aimed their guns, vigilant, as Nightmare cautiously examined every part of the grove but came up empty-handed. Unwilling to give up, she went to the location of her death, leaned over to look at the water, and even tried to catch the koi. The koi in the pool weren’t shy; she managed to catch one.

Nightmare released the koi back into the pool and looked around bewildered, "It’s ghostly."
