Chapter 397: Chapter 213: Reunion with Blood Heart
Maya and Shadow connected, "We’ve settled down, the location is not bad."
Stone cautioned, "Be careful." He didn’t know what else to say. What’s the use of telling you not to do something if you won’t listen?
Lin Wu took the walkie-talkie and said nonchalantly, "Been calling you for ages, where did you die off to?"
Stone replied, "Took Wai for a swim in the backdoor river. Wai’s doggy paddle is awful, you should teach it proper swimming when you get back."
Lin Wu countered, "Wai was practicing freestyle."
Stone asked, "Dogs can do freestyle?"
Lin Wu responded, "Don’t know. Anyway, I can only do the breaststroke."
Stone, realizing that Lin Wu was subtly insulting him, retorted, "Once I’m back, I’m going to grill Wai."
Lin Wu retorted, "Turn around and Little Knife will grill you."
Stone paused for a moment, "Get lost." He hung up, unable to win an argument through the air.
While the two were bickering, Maya completed a task, "Safe zone radius of 10 meters, the space behind the wall is all part of the safe zone." She pulled a chair to the corner to sit down, right on the edge of the safe zone, "Nice place."
Lin Wu walked up to Maya’s side, looking down the narrow 5-meter passage, "Is it?"
"Hmm?"
Lin Wu explained, "The space is too small for Wind Stinger to take off." Wind Stinger needed space for quick movements. If Frenzy lunged at him, Lin Wu couldn’t circle around to its back. Of course, he could use guns. But the biggest problem was that Wind Stinger was meant for surprise attacks. It was difficult for Lin Wu to stolidly watch the passage for hours. In a moment of distraction, Frenzy could appear at the corner and attack him in the blink of an eye.
Maya understood Lin Wu’s point, "Then we focus on guarding at night." Compared to Lin Wu, Maya felt even more pressure since she didn’t have Quick Gunner. She had to attack the moment Frenzy appeared. For Lin Wu, as long as he could react before Frenzy caught him, he could lock down Frenzy.
Lin Wu sighed, "Sitting there doing nothing for 5 hours, 5 hours."
Maya couldn’t help but chuckle, "Saying it once is enough."
Lin Wu said, "That’s the echo. Listen, 5 hours, 5 hours..."
Don’t get drawn into his childishness. Maya changed the subject, "Did you get mineral water and beverages from the vending machine?"
Lin Wu replied, "5 bottles of water."
Maya to him, "Go get water from the faucet." The system’s faucet provided a limited amount of water each day, enough for making tea but unsuitable for irrigation. In the summer, the system’s faucet would be turned off, and the game would realistically simulate the human body’s need for water and food. Players would have to figure out their own ways to deal with water issues.
Maya plugged the drain in the narrow passage and poured all the water onto the ground. Lin Wu squatted beside her, watching her work. She explained, "In a quiet place, zombies stepping on water will make noise. Hearing the noise, we get ready for action."
Lin Wu didn’t say a word, just watched.
Maya finished evenly distributing the water and, seeing Lin Wu’s silence, turned around, "It’s truly useful, the simplest way to keep vigil."
Lin Wu gestured for Maya to stand beside him. She walked behind him, not understanding what the issue was. Soon, she noticed the water level dropping, and realizing the water in the game would be refreshed, she tapped Lin Wu’s head twice with her right hand and left.
Lin Wu dragged over a chair and placed it at the bend, sorted. It was impossible to pass through the narrow corridor without touching the chair. Furniture items like chairs wouldn’t refresh. They could be destroyed, but that was not a concern.
When Maya saw the chair, the disappeared awkwardness surfaced again, and she barely restrained the urge to hit someone. She then unsheathed her Tang Sword and appeared to idly swing it in front of Lin Wu, declaring, "Let’s get to work."
Lin Wu protested, "Sister, you can die from a cut."
...
A building filled with Blood Zombies had a comparatively low zombie density outdoors. There was no time to loot corpses along the way until now, with Maya responsible for looting and killing, and Lin Wu for more looting.
Lin Wu squatted on the ground, hands on a corpse, watching the progress bar fill. Then, without standing up, he squatted forward to the next body. Corpse Looting had its own technique — looting player corpses was actually searching their backpacks, which could be done three times, each taking 20 seconds. You could get any item the player was carrying. The system had prioritized the likelihood of obtaining higher-value items. Generally, an assault rifle was hard to miss.
Looting zombies could also be done three times, but if nothing was found on the first try, it meant there’d be nothing at all. If only trash was found on the first attempt, then trash it would be for the next loots. Zombies with mission clues or game information would prioritize clues, making them the only ones worth looting more than once.
Most special of all was the first kill, for zombies felled first invariably had something valuable.
"Should’ve brought Peanut along."
Maya didn’t reply; she agreed with Lin Wu. Looting alone was too slow, forcing her to pause her killing to join in the looting. The system’s randomness was the most frustrating mechanic, making you dare not miss looting any Blood Zombie. You’d always feel like the one you didn’t loot might have had the serum.
"Rags, rags, rags." Nothing but rags.
Listening to Lin Wu’s continuous muttering, Maya found him quite noisy. But then she thought that his chatter might be the only fun in this monotonous work.
"Blood Ferocious Ma." Lin Wu glanced inside the office and pressed against the wall, "Two of them."
Maya leaned beside Lin Wu, "Anything else?"
