Chapter 368: Chapter 201: Visitors to the Commerce Pavilion_2

Shana reminded, "The use of assault rifles at both bases will result in a continuous onslaught of zombies against our defenses, this problem needs to be addressed first."

In the headset, Maya ordered, "Switch all rifles with silencer values lower than 70 to handguns." The higher the silencer value, the quieter the sound. After conversion, a value of 70 meant that the gunshot’s radius of influence was 15 meters. It was basically impossible for 7.62 caliber rifles, while some 5.56 rifles exceeded this threshold. Maya had already started to worry about the system’s siege. Left County was no North Town; a single gunshot could draw the undead from half the district to the feast.

Maya was quite annoyed that in the recent days she had been expanding Resource Points, trying to open up various routes, but had neglected the most basic base defense. However, she wasn’t worried about Lin Wu being cornered at all.

How long could Lin Wu hold out?

Lin Wu could hold out for quite some time. His Sentry post had a rope, not a lifeline, but a lazy rope. He would rely on Agility to climb up for his shift, and simply slide down to avoid the pain of circling up the stairs. The 15-meter-high Sentry was as tall as a 5- or 6-story building.

Lin Wu didn’t come down to the ground; he hung three meters high, wrapped the rope around his right arm a few times to secure his body, and repaired his gun and loaded bullets in midair.

The zombies crowding the Sentry post began to gnaw at the ropes, so Lin Wu swung the rope, propelling himself outwards to the edge of the rooftop. Two Frenzies came chasing after him, and the fully armed Lin Wu waited for the Frenzies to get close before executing a burst of Lock Head shots, headshotting each one. His main body sped up stamina recovery while his sub-Will reduced the stamina cost of skills. With the recovery midway, one full stamina bar was enough to kill the two Frenzies.

After eliminating the Frenzies, the pressure on Lin Wu reduced significantly, and he turned to provide fire support to the area below from the edge of the rooftop. With the noise reduced, the number of zombies entering the safe zone greatly diminished, and it was time to clear them out. Minutes later, all undead were butchered, and without any casualties, this sudden crisis was resolved.

Wai was released immediately, and Lin Wu ordered it to the Sentry tower of the main base. The only life paid in this battle were the chickens; a total of four chickens died in this fight. Shana took the remaining chickens, shovel in hand, and held a small funeral for the fallen fowl beside the weather station.

After everything was sorted, it was time for the main event: trading with NPC merchants.

...

Upon entering the Trading System, an interface would appear. On the left were the player’s tradable items, and on the right were goods for sale by the NPC merchant, who had a carrying capacity of 200 kilograms. There were no set prices for the merchant’s goods. Players could place the goods they wanted from the merchant into the presale area, and their own goods for sale in their presale area. When the ’Trade’ button appeared in the middle, it meant that the value of goods you were offering was equal to or greater than the value of the merchant’s goods.

Looking at the trading interface, people from the Shadow main base brought over bundles of supplies. First and foremost, one would assess the value of the items the merchant was selling.

The merchant had 5 major resources, each type with 5 Resource Packs. Theoretically, this violated the restriction that one person could only carry one Resource Pack. But maybe the merchant had a special ability that allowed carrying 25 packs?

The weapons for sale included: a Czech M8 pistol with a silencer value of 95, an FBI combat rifle, a non-compliant SKS assault rifle, and an R12 assault shotgun.

The first was a silenced pistol with a 20-round capacity. The second, a rifle that used 5.56 ammunition, had excellent control, came with a built-in scope, and virtually no recoil. The third was a 7.62 caliber rifle, powerful and with a 3-shot burst feature but not particularly special, suitable for dealing with Titans. The last was the shotgun equipped with a drum magazine. Although it had only an 8-shot capacity, it was a shotgun with a magazine, meaning there was no need to load each shell individually; one could simply change magazines, greatly speeding up the reload time.

There was no doubt about the R12’s firepower. With an infinite supply of unbreakable guns and bullets, it was an easy-to-operate, high-damage firearm capable of fixed-position output. Its only flaw was a silencer value of 10, which meant firing it would create noise in a 45-meter radius. Moreover, due to the shotgun’s nature, Sentries couldn’t use the R12.

Accessory items for sale included: a White Noise Generator for dormitories, which could play piano classics without adding to the Threat Value, perfectly fine for broadcasting music throughout the base. A self-sustaining generator that could provide three hours of electricity with one barrel of gasoline. A Press Modulator for bullets. A painkiller Press Modulator which, with electricity, could increase the production of painkillers by four times and without electricity, still double the production.

When Emerald Feather received the shared information about the painkiller Press Modulator, she paused for a long while, took out some paper to calculate, then left the patient Snow Egg to search for Shana.

After hearing Emerald Feather out, Shana quickly collected all the painkillers into presale and added the merchant’s medical packs to her own presale, instantly brightening when she saw the potential. After some calculations with Maya and Emerald Feather, Shana traded two submachine guns, four pistols, a couple of pens, and other junk for the painkiller Press Modulator.

Emerald Feather took the Press Modulator back to the infirmary, and by producing painkillers with medical supplies and trading them for medical packs, she soon cleared out the merchant’s five medical packs. At that moment, she had 50 bottles of painkillers remaining. With those, she traded for 5 Resource Packs including ammunition and gasoline.

By such calculation, not counting the initial investment for the Press Modulator, the Shadow base essentially got 5 Resource Packs for free. If the merchant’s medical packs were unlimited, Emerald Feather could produce an infinite supply of painkillers and trade for everything the merchant had, down to their very underwear.
