After sleeping until nine in the evening, the two left the tent rooms. The tent manager refunded part of their deposit, charging 10 points per hour.

"There are so few people." There was no power at the dig site; the headlamps revealed only a handful of players. Lin Wu found it even stranger, "So many people and so long, yet they haven’t completed the parts task?" The machinery was still broken, and so was the lighting.

"56,000 people." Maya looked at the screen, "In just a few hours, 4,000 more have gone."

"Maya." Starlight’s voice came from the side.

The two walked over, only to see Starlight, Fire Dance, Yellow Hair, and Sunlight sneakily hiding behind a truck. Lin Wu asked, "What are you doing? Street photography?"

Starlight beckoned for the two to squat down beside him, "The library was attacked this afternoon."

A tricycle overturned 100 meters outside the library, flinging the rider into the riverbed. The two boxes he was transporting hit the ground, scattering bullets everywhere. The event, witnessed by many, was accompanied by their shouts and screams. Curious players all saw the bullets and swarmed towards the tricycle.

As they were picking up bullets, the tricycle exploded. Many people hadn’t reacted yet and stood between the library and the tricycle in a daze. Three gunmen stepped out of the library’s safe zone and began a one-sided massacre. Surviving players looked for cover, those with bullets and guns started to fight back, but they hadn’t expected that the rider who had fallen into the riverbed and another player would launch an attack from behind them.

It’s not known how many died, but the library’s players, upon realizing what was happening, rushed out to attack the three gunmen 10 meters away. The three gunmen detonated their backpack bombs, causing countless deaths and injuries. A pair of Hunters who had killed dozens more were then hit by players, and before dying, each set off their bombs. Since the players were quite far from them, they were not affected by the explosions.

In this attack, four from Starfire Base died, and two were seriously injured. Fortunately, they were close to the medical station at the library, which saved their lives.

Maya said, "They detonated bombs to avoid being looted."

Lin Wu asked, "Is that why you’re being so cautious?"

Sunlight said, "Didn’t you know that the Hunters attacked the dig site this afternoon?"

Lin Wu looked at Maya, "Did they?"

Maya shook her head.

Sunlight recounted what the survivors had described, "I think they’re going to attack the dig site again, so I’ve decided to stake it out here."

Maya said, "This sounds like a war."

Sunlight nodded, "They have very good weapons and plenty of resources, definitely Golden Resurrection Cards. The more people they kill, the more points they get, the more advanced weapons they can get against other players."

Lin Wu said, "Our weapons probably won’t be of much help."

Starlight shared their plan, "We’re going to plant bombs in the digging site and scatter our people around. If there’s an attack, we’ll detonate the bombs as the attackers get close."

Lin Wu remarked, "Even the cheapest bomb costs 20 points, right?"

Yellow Hair said, "We’ve been doing tasks all afternoon, not even sparing money for food."

Lin Wu stated, "I have no interest in this."

Maya thought Lin Wu’s choice was very wise this time. Getting involved in an organized attack was unwise, and since the opposition could disguise themselves as ordinary players in protective suits, one could be dead before even getting the chance to react. As it stands now, avoiding the Hunters seems to be the main quest of the second Expedition instance. Sunlight and the others were not only not avoiding them but also trying to calculate against the Hunters, which was not what a wise person would do.

Unity? Of course, uniting all the players could defeat the Hunters, but don’t people need to eat? Don’t they need to earn points? The Hunters, not being brainless, wouldn’t charge into a united front of players.

Maya wondered if something similar had happened in real life in Waste City, where Fortress agents attacked scientists and soldiers, sabotaging their excavation work.

Maya shared her views on the Hunters with Starlight and advised him not to risk taking revenge, as their combat abilities were not on the same level.

The irritating Lin Wu interjected, "Is it that difficult? Didn’t we take down five of them?"

Sunlight turned to Maya incredulously, "You killed five Hunters?"

Maya nodded, "It was just luck. I don’t think we should confront them directly; we need to avoid them and survive first. In the meantime, we might find a chance to kill them."

Starlight glanced at Sunlight, "Alright, we’ll discuss it further. Are you going to do a task?"

Maya replied, "We originally planned to take on the defense task at the excavation site, but considering the current situation, we’ve decided to head back to the library’s supply point."

"Alright then, safe travels."

"Good luck to you too."

Sunlight said, "Fire Dance, Starlight, Yellow Hair, you guys go to the library with them."

Fire Dance asked, "Why?"

Sunlight said, "No reason, just do it, and give me the remote."

Fire Dance still wanted to speak, but Starlight stopped her. However, Yellow Hair began to create a melodrama, guessing that Sunlight was planning to stay behind and fight the Hunters to the death. After rambling for five minutes, he left with tears and the others.

Before leaving, Lin Wu tossed Sunlight a pack of food, "Die with a full belly, if you must."

Sunlight flipped him off, but once Lin Wu and the others were gone, he opened the package and started eating. In order to avenge their families, they had worked all afternoon and missed the free dinner.
