Chapter 312: Chapter 180 Digging Site_2
Maya squatted down, and Lin Wu squatted beside her. Maya looked straight at the never-ending tall buildings on both sides of the road and said, "I feel uneasy."
It wasn’t just Maya who felt uneasy; a person inside a building a hundred meters away was also anxious. Through Wai, the Hunter had already learned the identity of the two people. Seeing them stop within cover a hundred meters away made him nervous.
Blood Meng put down the binoculars and asked, "Who’s the one with the dog?"
Nightmare replied, "Lin Wu." He was Golden Hair, who after being resurrected had encountered Nightmare and found out Nightmare had also been taken down by the same person with a dog. Nightmare had informed him of Lin Wu’s identity. Seeing the enemy who had killed him several times in the binoculars, Nightmare felt an inexplicable sense of vulnerability.
Blood Meng had also been killed by Lin Wu twice, so she had some psychological shadows. Strictly speaking, she even owed Lin Wu a favor since the last time Lin Wu killed her he didn’t loot her bag. Blood Meng said, "I owe him a favor. For my sake, let him pass."
Nightmare responded, "Ok."
Blood Meng was puzzled, why agree so readily?
By now, Lin Wu and Maya were crouching beside the street close to this building. Maya clenches her fist and ducks down: "Someone’s here."
Lin Wu looked forward and saw it was this building’s vehicle and pedestrian entrance, total of four passages. Two vehicle and one pedestrian exits were piled up with construction debris, leaving only one pedestrian walkway clean. If someone wanted to enter the building, they would subconsciously choose the clean pedestrian path.
The two of them approached by sticking close to the guardhouse, and Maya said, "Tripwire."
Lin Wu noticed a tripwire about 20 centimeters high at the clean pedestrian exit and said, "If there’s someone inside, they’ve already spotted us."
Maya replied, "Not necessarily, it might be an alarm setup. They probably aren’t always watching the ground, plus there’s another path on the backside of the building."
"Shall we head up?"
Maya turned her head toward the skyscraper: "27 floors, and counting the underground parking, maybe 29 floors." It would take a lot of time to run a lap.
Lin Wu, pressing his body against the guardhouse, took down the drone and placed it on the ground. Although he couldn’t control the drone’s flight, he could control its camera to search for targets through the footage.
Blood Meng and Nightmare had already moved to either side to avoid detection, cursing inwardly: Who’s really the hunter here?
Lin Wu, finding nothing, packed up the drone and said, "Let’s go."
The two of them walked past the main entrance, under the gaze of the two Hunters on the eighth floor, who watched them stride away. Suddenly, a red light shone down from the seventh floor of a building on the side, but Lin Wu sprinted through with continuous afterimages, bullets sparking neatly and beautifully on the ground behind him. Blood Meng and Nightmare watched as the two dashed into the building where the Hunters were located.
After watching for a long time without any movement and waiting for a few more minutes, an NPC fell from the 21st floor. The next second, Lin Wu and Wai appeared at the side of the building, looking down together. A few minutes later, the two and the dog left the building and continued on their way.
Watching Lin Wu’s retreating figure, Nightmare spoke, "We have to kill him, kill him outside of the instance one time. His skills are too buggy." As a person experienced in real combat, he couldn’t accept skills that defied physics. To nullify Lin Wu’s skills, they had to kill Lin Wu once.
Blood Meng said, "He has many skills."
"I know," Nightmare replied as he placed the gun on his shoulder and asked, "What skills does he have?"
Blood Meng answered, "That, you’d have to ask Nightmare."
"Her? Heh, I spent 50 points just to get her to tell me Lin Wu’s identity."
Blood Meng said, "Then spend 500 points."
...
The excavation site was located on the highway just outside the city tunnel. The central area was about 50 meters away from the southern tunnel, while 50 meters to the west was a subway entrance, now collapsed, with a slope full of sandy, brick, and other construction debris leading into the pitch-dark depths of the subway.
In the northeast were many large tents, with plenty of NPCs and scientists wearing hard hats moving back and forth. At the excavation site, a large drill emitting black smoke was discarded to the side, and groups of workers in pairs used hand drills to break up the pavement and rocks, with excavators moving the earth and stones to trucks parked nearby.
From the northeastern tents’ rest area extended power cords that fed into five ten-meter-tall floodlights within the excavation site. Players on the scene, armed with weapons, were either on guard near the subway slope or not far from the tunnel entrance, with each team totaling up to four or five hundred people.
Before Lin Wu and Maya could understand what was happening, they heard gunshots from the direction of the tunnel, followed by an excited female player jumping up and exclaiming, "I got it, it was me."
The two of them, confused, first checked the rules of the excavation site. The notice explained that zombies and mutated creatures were lurking in the subway and tunnel, and you could earn points by accepting missions to clear them out. Points varied depending on the creatures eliminated.
Additionally, there were exploration missions. In the early stages of excavation, several scientists had gone missing, rumored to have either entered the tunnels or the subway. Rescuing them or retrieving their personal effects could earn substantial rewards. Special note: human corpses within the tunnels and subway refresh every 24 hours without decomposing, not for the faint-hearted.
Defense missions: Only available from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the night. Fog would attack incessantly, and zombies within it would strike and damage engineering equipment such as night lights, trucks, excavators, etc. Each zombie killed would result in bonus points.
Repair missions: About 300 meters away there was a Machinery Graveyard, holding machinery damaged by zombies since the excavation began. It would take ordinary people a long time to repair, but players with relevant professional skills could do it much faster. Once repaired, points would be awarded. Caution: zombies may occasionally be found in the Machinery Graveyard.
