Chapter 299: Chapter 175: Defending the City_2
"I’ll cover you."
Maya said a sentence, and Lin Wu slid down the tree, rushing to the base. Maya blocked the zombies behind Lin Wu from the rooftop. Lin Wu leaned against the main entrance, switched to a new magazine, and charged in, only to find about a dozen zombies inside: "The zombies have broken in through the back door."
"I know."
Maya, to deal with Frenzy, lured it to the rooftop, allowing only some ordinary zombies in. This time she let Lin Wu go to exterminate the zombies with the objective of eliminating all the escapees.
By the time Lin Wu killed the last zombie, a roar came from the direction of the supermarket. The thing they feared most had happened: a Titan had spawned inside the supermarket. This meant they were lacking a strategic terrain to fight the Titan. Lin Wu didn’t shrink back but instead took up his gun and attacked. Bullets hit the Titan, causing occasional headshots. The Titan roared and picked up a shelf next to it, hurling it at Lin Wu.
Lin Wu took a step forward, leaping like a fish, as shelves where he had been hiding were smashed to pieces by the flying shelf. Lin Wu ran towards the side, keeping as far away from the aisle as possible, continuing to shoot as he moved. The Titan charged at Lin Wu, crushing two shelves that were in its path, and Lin Wu took to his heels.
Due to the speed difference, Lin Wu had time to look back at the Titan. Seeing the Titan finish its charge and raise its fists to smash the ground, Lin Wu, with his double agility blessing, jumped and rolled mid-run, dodging the ground-shaking attack. He turned back to blow the heads off two zombies that had gotten close, then slung his rifle over his shoulder and pulled out a dagger to face Frenzy.
Just as Lin Wu dealt with Frenzy, the Titan was already upon him. Wind Stinger dashed out, incidentally taking down another zombie, causing the Titan to swipe at thin air. The Titan stamped the ground furiously and with a bellowing roar, threw its fists in the air. Lin Wu took advantage of this to stagger the Titan for the first time.
While running, he switched magazines and collided head-on with a zombie. Lin Wu finished reloading, but to his surprise, his gun jammed. In desperation, he stabbed the bayonet on the gun’s muzzle into the zombie’s head to hold it back, pulling out his pistol with his left hand to kill the zombie. Another Wind Stinger took down a zombie while he simultaneously dodged the Titan’s massive hands from behind.
Switch guns!
Maya: "Titan."
"Yes."
"What?"
Lin Wu: "I’m dealing with the Titan."
Maya: "A Titan spawned in the front."
Then the conversation ended. There was no need for dialogue at this time; they definitely each had to hold off a Titan. Once a Titan entered the base, it would only take minutes to break their home into pieces.
Lin Wu marked the Titan, increasing damage by 100%. As the Titan started sprinting again, he ran circles around it while tossing all three Beast Traps on the ground. The Titan stepped onto the Beast Traps, the teeth piercing into the flesh of its calves, three in a row, causing the Titan, its charge finished, to writhe in agony. Bending over, it reached down to pull at the Beast Traps.
Lin Wu, seven meters away, took the opportunity to unleash a barrage, causing the Titan to stumble for the second time. The Titan, breaking the rules, pulled off the second Beast Trap and hurled it at Lin Wu, who leaped into the air as the Beast Trap, sparking and crackling, slid across the floor tiles beneath his feet. To Lin Wu’s surprise, the Titan was ambidextrous, grabbing a nearby zombie to fling at him. Mid-air, Lin Wu had no leverage and could only curl up to absorb the hit with his side and back.
Under the force of the impact, Lin Wu was thrown through a shelf and landed 10 meters away. His body felt as if it had been shattered, and upon checking his status, he found his left arm severely fractured and unusable. Three ribs were cracked, but fortunately, it only affected his stamina recovery rate, which wasn’t a problem within the safe zone. He quickly took medicine to heal.
The Titan, thinking Lin Wu was dead, turned and quickly marched towards the aisle. Lin Wu did not wait for his health to fully recover before he sat up from his feigned death and aimed his assault rifle single-handedly, firing in bursts. Controlling the recoil was difficult with one hand, but thankfully, the assault rifle’s kick wasn’t strong, and his accuracy was passable.
The Titan turned to face Lin Wu once more, initiating a sequence of charging attacks. Lin Wu dropped his gun and threw a Beast Trap 7 meters behind him; it landed 5 meters in front of the Titan. Incredibly, the Titan managed to stop its charge, thwarting its own attack and stepping around the Beast Trap.
Lin Wu had his own theory. Logically, being caught by a Beast Trap would hurt, but not terribly so. Yet the Titan, being single-minded, had torn the traps off its flesh. Since the flesh had come with them, it stood to reason that it hurt. Unlike the last time a Beast Trap caught its face, the Titan had also pulled it off, but that piece of flesh was resilient, so there was no additional damage.
Whatever the real reason, the Titan had avoided the Beast Trap. As it closed in, Lin Wu lifted a second Beast Trap, the Titan stopped dead in its tracks and roared at Lin Wu, seeming to charge up while also saying: go ahead, throw it.
This thing was indeed somewhat intelligent, probably the smartest zombie. Players rarely fought against Titans, and Lin Wu had only encountered them a few times. He wasn’t sure if the Titan was actually afraid of him.
No, that wasn’t right. The roar was almost like a scream; it was acting as a Screamer, it was cheating. With this thought, Lin Wu immediately racked the Beast Trap and took out his assault rifle to fire. Sure enough, the Titan forcefully roared three times before quieting down. Summoning Skill was also one of the Titan’s abilities, though it wasn’t normally necessary.
As the Titan pursued, Lin Wu slung his rifle and ran, throwing a Beast Trap over his shoulder. The trap skidded to a stop, and the Titan stepped firmly onto it. The trap caught not the calf this time but the right foot, and as the Titan’s right foot hit the ground, a combination of pain and slipperiness made it lose balance and crash down. Lin Wu had only run seven meters before turning around to empty the magazine.
