Chapter 286: Chapter 169 Mindset_2
Shana said, "Oh, that’s how it is. I thought you were afraid of Black Bear."
"Psh, that’s just an animal. I’m a human armed to the teeth," Lin Wu said disdainfully. "Once the blizzard stops, I’ll go chop a couple of bear heads to make stools for you to sit on."
"I’ll be looking forward to that," Shana said. "Lin Wu, help me chop a few branches, about the diameter of a mineral water bottle cap, and preferably bigger rather than smaller."
Lin Wu looked at Shana, who explained, "I’ve just recovered from a serious injury." She just couldn’t be bothered to move, for some reason.
"Ha, that’s really funny." Lin Wu didn’t say much, and went off to the storeroom to get Maya’s heirloom chopper to cut down trees.
When he returned from cutting trees, Shana took Lin Wu’s chopper, chopped the branches into pieces, and started carving on the small wood pieces with Lin Wu’s spare dagger. Lin Wu craned his neck from behind Shana and asked, "What are you making?"
"Chess, Indian chess," Shana said.
Lin Wu asked, "Can you carve Flying Chess?"
Shana said, "I thought you would at least be at checkers level. How come you’re only at the level of Flying Chess?"
Lin Wu said disdainfully, "Checkers is what you girls play, right?"
Shana asked, "Do you know how to play chess?"
Lin Wu frowned. Of course he knew, but he would most likely lose to Shana nine out of ten times. Shana seemed to know what Lin Wu was thinking, so she said, "I’ve only watched it a few times."
Lin Wu: "Liar." And he went off to busy himself. But there didn’t seem to be anything to do, so he could only go to the library to fish out a novel. Thank goodness there was still a library.
Shana’s interest in chess was not that great; her interest was in carving. Unfortunately, arts like carving and painting had been beaten by AI on Blue Star to the point of not being recognized by a mother, so it could only be a personal hobby.
"Lin Wu."
"Yes."
"Tomorrow, or whenever you’re free, could you take a trip to Avenue 1 for me? I want to get some painting materials. Canvas, oil brushes, or even ink and watercolors would do, and spray paint cans work as well."
"No problem." Avenue 1 had Blood Mist, but in front of art, Blood Mist counted for nothing. Lin Wu turned back and looked at Shana, "Did something provoke you?"
Shana shook her head, continuing her carving, she said, "I’ve found that art is the most immersive way to kill time."
Lin Wu asked, "Isn’t it sleeping?"
Shana turned her head to look at Lin Wu for a few seconds: "The nice atmosphere was ruined by just one sentence of yours."
Lin Wu laughed and said, "That’s my way of killing time."
Shana bared her fangs to show she was annoyed and continued to focus on her work. And actually, from the side, Shana’s pair of focused eyes were particularly beautiful. And from the front? Looking from the front would disturb her, and he’d get hit.
Lin Wu brought over a stool and sat at the edge of the Blood Mist, waiting a few minutes and felt okay, not getting frostbite from being too far from the bonfire. After a few more minutes, zombies arrived. When the zombies got within about ten meters, Lin Wu moved his stool back half a meter, and the horde of zombies began to idle on the spot. The sunlight reflected by Moonlight and the snow reflected further by the big moon made visibility very high. Lin Wu calmly took aim with the Silencer and called the zombies’ names one by one.
After killing this batch of zombies, Lin Wu moved forward half a meter and picked up the novel he was reading. Not enough light? No worries, he lit a torch. A dozen minutes later, the alarm sounded; Blood Zombies had entered the safe zone, and Lin Wu started a new round of shooting. On the other side, after the first alarm sounded, Shana put on the Nuclear Portable Player and devoted herself to carving chess pieces, using a sharpener and sandpaper to carefully polish them.
It was hard to know how long it passed when Shana’s hand reached out from behind Lin Wu, and he took the chess piece she handed him: a pawn. It felt quite nice, not only well carved but even the character for ’pawn’ was beautifully written.
Lin Wu’s action already showed his appreciation for the piece, and further praise was unnecessary.
Lin Wu expressed his thought, "Do you feel that everyday life is getting monotonous? Boring?" He handed the chess piece back.
Shana took the chess piece and leaned to the side, looking out at the world, "I’ve told you before, it’s just my personality." The subtext: she indeed was weary of the past two months of living. Especially at night, with nothing to do but chat with Lin Wu, read books, and eat and drink. Originally, everything was fine, whether chatting, reading books, or eating and drinking, Shana was interested in participating. But over time, the reading sessions decreased, and Lin Wu became far more interested in eating and drinking than she was.
As for chatting, she now preferred to sit by Lin Wu and daydream, rather than forcing conversation without any topics. The only thing that Shana was thankful for was that she hadn’t grown tired of Lin Wu and was pleased to have his company in such harsh conditions.
After listening, Lin Wu reassured her, "Human thoughts are complex."
Shana nodded, and Lin Wu said, "Which is why I need more time to annoy you."
Shana laughed, "My understanding of ’human thoughts are complex’ is completely different from yours."
Lin Wu said, "Miss, why do I get the feeling you’re a bit sad?"
Shana didn’t argue and after a quiet moment said, "I’ve been in love a couple of times."
"You’ve mentioned that, but strictly speaking, it wasn’t really being in love," Lin Wu remarked.
Shana nodded and said, "My ex-boyfriend was very good to me, the kind of person who cared for me deeply and lived entirely for me. At first, I was moved, gradually I became grateful. After a while, one day I suddenly felt so annoyed, I didn’t want to see him or talk to him."
Lin Wu said, "You should recall your parents more than him."
Shana shook her head, "That’s not it. I’m worried that one day I won’t want to see you or talk to you either."
