Chapter 283: Chapter 168 Heading Home

Lin Wu and Shana crouched at the edge of the rooftop, with their hands propping up their chins, staring at the opposite side in quiet contemplation. They had completed the most difficult task of getting up to the roof, yet they hadn’t anticipated getting stuck at an unexpected part of their plan.

Shana said, "You’re one meter eighty tall, and with your arms stretched out you reach about two meters forty; deducting the head and neck, that’s roughly two meters twenty. Therefore, theoretically speaking, if you were to stand at the edge, raise your arms, and fall forward, you could grab the floor of the opposite rooftop. From this, we can infer that you should be able to jump across."

Lin Wu looked at Shana, "Theoretically speaking, with a snowboard one can fly quite a distance, do you want to give it a try?"

"Oh, right," Shana’s eyes lit up as she was reminded.

Lin Wu quickly said, "I was joking."

"I wasn’t joking," Shana replied, looking back at the distance. "Just make a small ramp, and we can easily get across. You take care of the zombies in the building opposite, and I’ll handle the setup."

Lin Wu was uncertain, "Are you sure?"

"I’m sure."

"But ski jumping requires a downslope momentum."

Shana answered, "It’s only two meters, no need for momentum."

Seeing Shana so determined, Lin Wu could only use Silencer to shoot at the zombies in the opposite building. Since they had an abundance of pistol ammo and the exchange rate was low, yesterday Peanut had swept up all the .22 bullets at the market, which really allowed Peanut to indulge in the thrill of splurging.

It didn’t take long for Shana to set things up, but Lin Wu felt that this small ramp made by stomping on the snow was unreliable. However, seeing Shana eager to try, he didn’t want to discourage her, so he took out two ropes: "Tie these around your waist."

Shana took the ropes and asked, "Safety ropes?"

Lin Wu nodded and tied the ropes to a steel rebar sticking out from the edge of the rooftop.

Shana asked, "Why two ropes?"

Lin Wu replied, "You don’t need to ask that question."

Shana immediately understood, "Hey, I’m not heavy, I only weigh 90 pounds."

Lin Wu was surprised and widened his eyes. Shana whispered, "More like a bit over 90... Can we settle on just over 100, alright? Annoying."

Lin Wu said innocently, "I told you that you didn’t need to ask that."

"Hmph." Shana tied the ropes, then walked back about fifteen meters to tighten them, took a deep breath, and slid out. Her speed was not fast at first and didn’t seem to get much faster even with the help of ski poles. Seeing the situation turn dire, Lin Wu immediately used Wind Stinger to move away from the edge... Why not use Wind Stinger to cross the two-meter gap? Because Wind Stinger is rapid movement, not teleportation; it only seems like teleportation because it’s so fast.

Shana also realized the trouble and quickly understood the situation. Even though the ski slopes on Blue Star might have some soft snow on the surface, the snow underneath was hard. Hard snow is good for speed but bad for braking. It does not "bite" into the skis, which is why many professional slopes sprinkle a layer of soft snow on top of the hard snow.

But by then, it was too late. The front of the snowboard dug into the snow pile on the ramp, Shana was flipped out, and her body slammed solidly against the wall of the apartment building across, immediately followed by a plunge. When Shana fell to fifteen meters, due to the safety ropes, she was swung back and hit the wall again before dangling in the air, drifting in the wind.

Lin Wu stuck his head out to make sure Shana was still alive, then buried his head in the snow and punched the snow hard to keep from laughing out loud, not wanting to hurt poor Shana anymore. Dangling in mid-air, Shana, after downing a painkiller, huffed with crossed arms, not calling out to Lin Wu since she could guess his mood at that moment.

It was a while before Lin Wu started pulling on the ropes, without power enhancement, relying solely on burning stamina. Every few meters he pulled Shana up, he would wind the rope around the rebar, using an ant’s method, Lin Wu slowly pulled Shana back to the rooftop from the third-floor position.

After Shana got up, she kept her huffing demeanor, sitting silently on the snowy edge of the building. Lin Wu, having already laughed, approached to console her, "Leaving the result aside, that jump was actually quite graceful."

Shana gestured for Lin Wu to come over and gently pinched his ear, instantly in a better mood, she said, "Let me tell you some bad news, I have a severe fracture in my left knee, and a fractured right shin."

Lin Wu replied, "Let me tell you some good news. Right after you shared that bad news, I immediately thought of a way to cross the two meters."

"What way?"

"To jump across."

Shana said, "We discussed this before, that’s quite risky behavior."

Lin Wu said, "Anyway, since you’re already injured, either I fall to my death, or I cross over and then figure out how to get you back home." Both outcomes would cause about the same amount of pain.

Without further ado, Lin Wu cleared the snow from the edge, then cleared a two to three-meter runway. Just this little bit of work was already exhausting. Lin Wu put on the safety harness, took a few steps back, and then ran, sprinted.

Lin Wu landed on the opposite rooftop, his feet sinking into the snow. Because he didn’t plant his feet firmly, he immediately lost balance and fell backward. In this critical moment, Lin Wu activated Wind Stinger, shooting forward at a 15-degree angle from the snow, and fell into the snowdrift. This experiment showed Lin Wu that indeed, jumping from a lower point of 80 centimeters to a higher and unstable snow-covered surface was not feasible.

Wind Stinger was a move Lin Wu had prepared from the start, otherwise once his body lost its angle and his feet lost support, Wind Stinger would have been impossible to activate.

Next came the rope time. Lin Wu and Shana secured rope A, creating a rope bridge. Then, they took rope B and tied Shana with it like a safety harness; tying a slip knot at one end around rope A, and throwing the other end to Lin Wu. Lin Wu pulled on rope B, and Shana, harnessed to rope A, was pulled across by Lin Wu.
