Chapter 280: Chapter 167 The Way Home

Lin Wu stealthily reached the corner of the wall and looked back to nod at Shana, then peeked around the corner to the left corridor and didn’t see the Titan. The subsequent low growl of the Titan confirmed to Lin Wu that the creature wasn’t far away; it should not have been more than 8 meters, or maybe 10 meters away. Lin Wu couldn’t be blamed, as the creature was a living thing that could move.

According to Maya, the sewers of Left County might have been designed based on London’s sewer structure during World War II. During the war, London was endlessly bombarded, and at that time, the sewers were the best bomb shelters available, even developing a sewer culture. Therefore, the sewers of Left County were quite spacious; even fitting a Titan wouldn’t be too crowded. However, it was best not to entertain the thought of passing by the Titan.

In front of Lin Wu was a crossroads, three ways to go—left, right, or straight—plus, walking straight ahead and down the stairs to the sewage channel would constitute a fourth path. To the right, a stairway led up and another down. To the left was the road back to Left County, which also split in two: one could take a set of stairs and then crawl through a pipe bridge, or simply walk 3 meters and turn right, though Lin Wu had no idea what lay beyond that turn. He simply didn’t know whether to crawl through the pipe bridge or just walk straight ahead.

Lin Wu took out a firecracker, lit it, and threw it to the end of the corridor on the right. After the firecracker exploded with a series of bangs, the Titan let out a thunderous roar, and a shockwave from the ground knocked Lin Wu to the floor. Yet Lin Wu still hadn’t seen the Titan, which seemed unable to find the way to the explosion and continued to roar repeatedly until it eventually calmed down.

"Shh," Shana made a noise.

Lin Wu turned around, hurriedly stealth-walking back to Shana and crouching beside her. Shana leaned close, whispering, "Back to Hunter Hall."

Lin Wu said, "Even if we go back, we still have to take this route."

Shana said, "I mean going back to check the sewer blueprint in Hunter Hall and then find another way out."

Lin Wu asked, "Are you sure?"

Shana shook her head, "No, but are you sure you can get through safely?"

Lin Wu honestly replied, "No." Not afraid of the Titan discovering him, he was afraid of choosing the wrong path in panic. And panic he would, since Lin Wu remembered less than 20 meters of the route. To make matters worse, the sewer ceiling was less than ten meters high, preventing drones from taking off.

Shana said, "I appreciate your seriousness and honesty."

Lin Wu replied, "I hate it."

Shana smiled, "Follow me."

...

Shana stood looking intently at the blueprint. Meanwhile, Lin Wu felt uneasy because the ’silly girl’ had already been staring at the map for over five minutes. Perhaps realizing she had taken quite a bit of time, Shana explained, "According to the main routes, Left County can be divided into 1, 2, and 3 roads. There are two ways to divide the areas – southern and northern, Shuidong and Shuixi."

Pointing with a stick at the blueprints, Shana said, "County marker is at the northernmost point, the Titan is in this X area. To reach any northern sewer exit, we have to go through the X area. Unless we head west all the way, exiting from the No. 2 sewer entrance and head to Riverside Park. From there, walk two kilometers along Riverside Park and re-enter the sewers to reach the county marker."

Shana said, "However, this route is very complicated, and I’m not entirely confident about it."

Lin Wu said generously, "Bet on the Titan or bet on Shana. I bet on Shana."

Shana replied, "Your trust is somewhat touching."

Lin Wu said, "I didn’t mean it that way, but you can understand it like that."

Shana sighed, "You always refuse to speak nicely."

Lin Wu responded, "As long as you get the meaning."

Shana said sternly, "I’m being very serious, we can’t joke around later, it’s best not to talk at all. If we encounter zombies, you handle them; I won’t join the fight."

Lin Wu drummed up worry, "Sounds like you’re not even confident in yourself."

Shana glared at him, "Then who would you bet on?"

Lin Wu quickly said, "I bet on you, I bet on you."

Shana asked, "What if we truly can’t find our way out?"

Lin Wu remarked, "Can’t find our way out even after two days?" Sleep needs were a rigid requirement.

Shana paused, "That shouldn’t happen." She had 48 hours; how could it be impossible to find the way out?

Shana seriously looked at the blueprint for another moment and said, "Let’s start." She turned and stepped forward, not noticing the step, and tumbled headlong.

Lin Wu hurriedly helped Shana to her feet, "Did you break anything?" Anxious, the darned Dawn had just updated their game.

Shana, not concerned with her injury and noticeably embarrassed, punched Lin Wu’s shoulder twice before answering, "Just a scrape." A scrape, light bleeding, self-healing.

Shana returned to the blueprint for one more minute, then started walking towards the western corridor. A few dozen meters down, they faced four zombies. Shana turned the corner and encountered the zombies, but she wasn’t startled; instead, she stared at them and retreated very composedly, not even taking out her weapon. Lin Wu, although on the front line and not quite capable of confronting zombies head-on, managed to eliminate them without using firearms since there were only four of them.

With the last zombie falling, Shana moved forward without a word; her eyes weren’t dead-fish still but more like deep wells, seemingly capable of including and holding everything within them. Therefore, Lin Wu was sure Shana meant business that day; she was using all her brain cells.

Lin Wu hoped that Lord Dawn would let Shana lead them in and out smoothly, otherwise he would have to comfort Shana later, which would be too troublesome. In Lin Wu’s view, comforting women was a very troublesome matter. A brother who had been dumped or failed an exam could be instantly half healed with a shout to treat them to hotpot. If it was serious, treat them twice, to guarantee a cure. But it didn’t work that way with women; comforting them didn’t necessarily cost money, but it certainly required thought.
