Chapter 257: Chapter 159 Food Searching_2
The county town was dense with zombies, and their mobility in the open was high; in less than a minute, the three-person guard team had killed seven zombies that wandered toward them. During this process, Little Knife’s archery skills were particularly impressive. After more than 20 days of blizzard training, Little Knife’s movements in drawing the bow and shooting arrows were not only professional-looking but also remarkably accurate.
The modern compound bow comes with sights, but not a scope. To master the use of sights one needs not only knowledge but also the ability to adjust according to the situation. Most importantly, the movements must be accurate; otherwise, you’d be aiming at nothing. In contrast, firearm sights are very simple, you just need to align your eye with the crosshair.
The food-searching trio searched for food packs with utmost caution, as swarms of zombies occasionally passed by the shop outside. Ten minutes later, the pizza shop managed to bring two food packs for Little Knife and Maya. Then Lin Wu went to the neighboring bakery. The bakery was only 20 square meters with a narrow passage, and after clearing out the zombies, Lin Wu reported, "The inside is cramped, and there are utensils everywhere, you must be careful when scavenging."
Maya changed the strategy, "Lin Wu, you search."
"Alright," Lin Wu quickly got a food pack from the bakery and handed it to Maya, then returned to the bakery. This time, he aimed to break open a wooden box labeled with Hamburger Bread. Based on past experiences, it was almost certain that there would be a food pack inside the box.
Just then, a Frenzy stumbled to the entrance of the alley and entered North Alley. North Alley was originally guarded by Lin Wu, but now it was guarded by Soulless brother with a silenced pistol. This Frenzy was half white and half red, covered with red spots as if it was being infected by Blood Mist. Seeing the Frenzy, Snow Egg panicked, maintaining stealth while whispering a warning: "There’s a Frenzy."
Everyone turned to the north, the Frenzy was getting closer. Maya quickly considered the situation, "What should we do?" The first method was to inform Lin Wu to evacuate. Lin Wu was about 20 meters away from the sewer entrance, and with a distance of over 30 meters to cover, the team could retreat without alarming a large number of zombies. However, it would be difficult to return to this location anytime soon.
The second method was to silently kill the Frenzy. The advantage was that the alley was narrow, and the team had numerous silenced weapons at their disposal. The disadvantage was the nature of the Frenzy; if a Frenzy was hit with a fatal attack, it would fall to a spot and if you couldn’t immediately shoot it in the head, it would start howling. Its howl wasn’t as earth-shattering as a scream but, with the vicinity crowded with zombies, it could lead to a chain reaction. By then, Lin Wu might not have time to retreat.
As Maya prepared to notify Lin Wu to retreat, another Frenzy appeared in the eastern passage. Maya immediately gestured for everyone to retreat into the sewer: "Tell Lin Wu to retreat."
Shana: "Lin Wu, retreat."
With the pistol aimed at the Frenzy, Horse Soul took a step back upon receiving Maya’s command. Due to the limited space, he stumbled over Shana’s heel. Shana lost her balance and, to avoid falling, instinctively stood up, breaking her stealth. The Frenzy, which was about to detect any stealthed players, consequently discovered the group without any issues. Maya fired a crossbow arrow, interrupting one Frenzy’s howl, but couldn’t stop the other one. In an instant, noises arose from the two roads outside the alley, as if thousands of troops were responding to the Frenzy’s howl.
Snow Egg, being the closest to the entrance, went down into the sewer first. He was about to look back for Little Knife when Maya stepped on him, sending him sprawling: "Just jump in."
The others didn’t grab the ladder either; they jumped straight into the sewer. After escaping 20 meters away under Maya’s lead, they killed all the zombies that entered the sewer. Not many zombies followed them inside, and after dealing with them, Maya ventured alone into the lower part of the straight ladder and took a look around. Near the sewer cover, zombies were everywhere.
Maya returned and said, "The entrance is blocked by zombies."
Shana called out, "Lin Wu."
There was no response, and after calling several times, Shana grew a little anxious: "He’s not even married yet."
Maya: "Don’t you know if he’s dead or not?"
Shana hurriedly checked the base cemetery; only her and Nightmare Tombstone were there. She breathed a sigh of relief: "He’s not dead."
A minute ago, Lin Wu saw through the glass showcase that Shadow People were jumping one by one into the sewer. Seeing the zombies around him getting restless, he pulled open the large oven next to him, climbed in, and then closed the door. Soon, zombies arrived at his location. These zombies were originally heading for the area near the sewer but ended up congesting the bakery as that area was already filled with zombies.
After waiting a while, Lin Wu felt that the zombies had left, or at least there weren’t many left. He tried to push the oven door open, but it wouldn’t budge... What kind of design was this? Lin Wu didn’t know this was a heat-protection lock on the large oven that could only be opened from the outside by pulling a handle.
"Help!"
Initially worried, Shana couldn’t help but snicker when she heard Lin Wu’s voice through the earpiece. Seeing everyone looking at her, she explained: "He’s calling for help."
Little Knife, confused: "He’s calling for help, and you’re laughing?" This woman is so weird.
Shana was taken aback, not sure how to explain.
Maya said, "Just wait."
Shana: "You just wait, where are you?"
Lin Wu: "I’m inside the oven at the bakery."
Shana asked, "How many zombies are there?"
Lin Wu: "It seems they’ve dispersed."
Shana asked, "Then... why don’t you come out?"
Lin Wu took a while to respond: "Did you not hear me calling for help?"
Shana thought for a moment and asked, "You can’t get out?"
Lin Wu was silent. Shana, trying to suppress her laughter, asked again: "You’re locked inside?" This thing is good; I’ll find a way to move it to the base. Next time he annoys me, I’ll lock him inside.
