Chapter 247: Chapter 155: Snow Seals the City

Lin Wu climbed up to the lookout tower to observe the terrain for a while before whispering to Shana and heading out to set up the firecrackers. Soon, the firecrackers went off, and the Titan chased the sound away from the supermarket, reaching the front entrance. Lin Wu lit the fuse of the second firecracker, burned stamina to quickly stealth walk, and successfuly attracted the Titan after the firecracker exploded.

At last, the Titan was lured to the right side of the supermarket base’s main entrance, stopping at a distance of 150 meters from the base. This was the edge of Birch Park, where there was a half-meter-deep artificial pond for paddling, covering an area of over a hundred square meters. These weren’t the reasons why the Titan approached the pond. The real reason was that this location was an excellent shooting point from the lookout tower.

"One shot each, if you miss the head, you eat a mouthful of snow."

"Childish." The word had already been worn out between the two, and Shana said, "You’re not allowed to use the Silencer, use the AR15."

In the game, hitting a watermelon at 120 meters with an assault rifle was somewhat challenging because according to game data, the assault rifle’s range was only 80 meters with a four-times scope. Beyond 80 meters, targets in the scope would start to blur, with the blurriness increasing with distance. This is why the Forest Wolf could only reach a firing range of 500 meters.

As Little White Rabbit explained, the reason for the virtual firearms’ range limitation was to avoid mimicking a real battlefield. Real battlefield experiences are not enjoyable for players often, as one would typically die without even seeing the enemy.

Aided by the lookout tower, the standard range for the assault rifle was 100 meters. Through the scope, the Titan’s small head appeared as a mosaic, mixed with the mosaic of its body, requiring careful identification.

So the two of them played on, and after each had eaten a dozen mouthfuls of snow, they felt their behavior was too idiotic, a zero-sum game. They decided to flick foreheads instead. Eating snow could really freeze one, and might even cause a cold. Flicking foreheads wouldn’t hurt the other person.

After injuring the Titan, its roars attracted many minions, and so the two of them started a competition to clear out the minions, with the one killing more in a minute being the victor. After finishing off the minions, the loser had to go down from the tower to poke and scream, and this was the first time Shana systematically played the screaming game. While having fun, she asked, "Is this what you and Maya do every day?"

"One of our routines," Lin Wu said. "We also go to the cement factory, to the Bounty Hunter Hall. But now we can’t go out at night, so we can only play a bit during the day."

Shana looked toward the westward setting sun, "Look."

As they watched, the grey clouds swallowed the sun. Shana said, "The power of nature is stronger than the zombies."

As if in response to Shana’s words, the system broadcast: A severe blizzard is about to sweep through the homeland. To exemplify the spirit of humanity, the homeland is opening up shelters. Within three hours, players can teleport from their own base to the shelter. You won’t die in the shelter, but you also won’t earn any points.

Players who choose not to enter the shelter will face a variety of survival challenges.

Challenge One: The temperature in the homeland will plummet, reaching a minimum of minus 50 degrees Celsius. Without enough fuel, you will undoubtedly die.

Challenge Two: It will be almost impossible to leave the house during the blizzard.

Challenge Three: The Complete Blood Plague will continue to expand to the surroundings.

Challenge Four: The duration of the blizzard will be kept secret.

If players choose to stay in the game instead of going to the shelter, then for every hour they survive, they will earn extra points. The longer the survival time, the higher the points earned per hour.

System Broadcast: A three-hour countdown begins. During these three hours, players won’t suffer from frostbite. Please cherish the last moments to either retreat into the shelter or quickly gather supplies to get through the long night.

Shana said, "We don’t have enough food."

"Let’s go, quick."

"Where to?"

"We have no choice but to risk going to the county city." Lin Wu was not going to go to the shelter.

In the midst of their conversation, Nightmare glided into Birch Park on skis, came up to the entrance, and shouted to the two of them, "Come with me."

Lin Wu and Shana came down, and Nightmare placed a food pack into storage. "Follow me, I’ve hidden three more food packs."

Lin Wu asked, "Hidden where?"

"In the trunk of a car."

Ah! From now on, we should search any car that looks scrapped on the road. As soon as Nightmare mentioned it, Lin Wu understood. She had hidden food packs and other supplies in the trunks of cars, driving them to secluded areas, possibly smashing the cars to make them look scrapped, using the car trunks as makeshift outdoor storage.

The food packs were hidden not far from Nightmare’s original base, and the round trip took the three of them an hour. While there was still time, the trio ventured to Left County. They had planned to raid a small supermarket, but the two plumes of Blood Mist on Route 1 had already mingled, and the zombies within were more ferocious, leading them to abandon the plan in the end.

With one hour left upon returning to base, they barely entered when they heard Stone’s half-dead voice over the radio, "Answer the phone, answer the phone, answer the phone."

"Here," Shana answered the call.

Stone: "Where did you go, I’ve been calling for an hour."

Lin Wu: "We went to find food."

Maya’s voice: "How much food do we have stored?"

Lin Wu replied, "27 units, enough for the three of us for nine days. What’s the situation at the main base?"

Maya said, "Not bad, the two farms can’t be irrigated in winter, cutting food production in half, only providing 5 units of food per day. Currently, we have 28 units of food stored, with a daily consumption of 7 units." This was why they needed to dismantle the barracks to build farms. However, the second farm lacked a composter, and without the Chemistry Skill to make fertilizer, the second farm produced 4 units of food per day, while the first farm produced 6 per day.
