Chapter 245: Chapter 154 Probability
Behind Maya and Lin Wu, the few people skiing slowly exchanged glances, and Little Knife was the first to voice doubt, "Sister Maya speaks a lot."
Everyone nodded in agreement, and Snow Egg strongly backed Little Knife, "Usually, she doesn’t talk about these topics."
Shana explained for Maya, "Being in a good mood or a bad mood can temporarily change someone’s personality."
Horse Soul disagreed, "I think Maya only talks like this when she’s with Lin."
"Black Bear, prepare for battle," Lin Wu roared.
His shout startled everyone, sending them into a frenzy as they fumbled for their rifles. Following Lin Wu’s gaze, they saw a small black bear leap from the snowy woods onto the still snow-covered road. It raised its forelimbs, looking at the six players armed with assault rifles with a scared expression on its face, seemingly frightened.
"So cute." Instantly smitten, Little Knife lowered her rifle and approached the small black bear. Finding nothing in her backpack, Snow Egg hurriedly tossed over a box of blueberries.
"Don’t approach it; it’s very dangerous. Beware of a mother bear nearby," Lin Wu warned, tense and vigilant, as he launched a drone to scout the area.
Little Knife didn’t believe him. Holding the fruit box with one hand, she approached the small black bear, which slowly came over and sniffed it before happily digging in. Under the temptation of food, the bear cub didn’t resist the strokes from Little Knife. Looking back at the others, she said, "It must have separated from its mother."
Snow Egg asked, "You’re not thinking of bringing it back to the base, are you?"
Horse Soul commented, "Though a bear paw is small, it probably tastes good."
Lin Wu’s drone scoured the vicinity but found no sign of other black bears. Faced with such a perfect opportunity for revenge, Lin Wu stealthily drew his dagger and hid it behind him, pretending to be very fond of the small black bear as he slowly approached it.
The others watched silently, but how could Snow Egg let something Little Knife liked get ruined? She quickly asked, "Lin Wu, what are you doing with that dagger?"
"I don’t have one," Lin Wu replied, petting the bear’s head with his left hand, as Little Knife grabbed his right hand and twisted it around to reveal the dagger. Lin Wu explained, "I was just going to help it pick out the seeds."
"Stay away; keep your distance from it."
With no choice, Lin Wu backed off to Maya’s side. Maya, trying to suppress a laugh, whispered, "You haven’t gotten your revenge until today, have you?"
Lin Wu looked skyward, not uttering a word, pondering how to pretend to have a stomachache so everyone else would go ahead. Unexpectedly, after eating the blueberries, the small black bear licked Little Knife’s hand and ran off. That few licks overflowed Little Knife with maternal affection, and as she watched the little black bear scamper back into the woods, wiggling its small behind, her heart melted.
Lin Wu felt that if he really slaughtered the small black bear, Little Knife would slaughter him. Well, maybe not literally, but she would certainly hate him afterward. Forget it, debts of revenge must be claimed from the right party. He still had to seek justice from the big Black Bear.
...
As they prepared to return to the main base to scavenge for a couple of blunt weapons, they noticed a new sign at the entrance: Beds are full; no new people welcome. Two players walking down from the main base saw the sign at the crossroads. One player contemptuously said, "Monopolizing resources for themselves, I’ve never seen such selfish people."
The other player added, "Justice will not be absent. They won’t have a good end."
As the six approached, the two players turned, greeted them with a smile, and Lin Wu asked Shana in a low voice, "What were they mumbling about?"
"Didn’t hear clearly," she replied.
"Come for tea when you’re free," said the two players before taking their leave.
Upon reaching the backyard of the base and having a cup of tea by the bonfire, they learned that trouble had started yesterday. Many players had paid a visit yesterday and found out that Shadow Base only had two small dormitories, meaning the maximum number of Shadow Base members was six. As the news spread, from this morning on, people began to apply for membership at Shadow Base.
Aside from the base itself, what attracted them was the fact that Shadow Base had electricity and a farm. Any perceptive person could tell that Shadow Base was not short of food and had a high quality of daily life.
Among the players, there were those who genuinely wanted to make friends or simply greet their neighbors. Every time Stone had to entertain visitors, he was overwhelmed and clueless about their intentions. Two players who had just come over were all praises, full of compliments in their words. Stone could only respond awkwardly, until finally, they expressed their difficult situations and asked if they could stay for just two days, just two. Another player humbly stated even one day would be enough if two days were inconvenient.
Luckily, Stone was no ordinary person. He had no hesitation in dealing with those who curry favor with smiles, decisively declining their requests. The two players begged, claiming they had no food and just wanted to join tomorrow’s eight o’clock meal. While many people might give them a food package in such a situation, Stone was unmoved, telling them, "We don’t have spare food either; you’ll have to fend for yourselves."
Su Shi greatly admired Stone. These two had called Stone and Maya ’brother’ and ’sister’ on the radio in the early years, and when they came to the door, they were very polite and humble, coupled with a bunch of flattering words. Most people would hesitate when rejecting them.
Stone’s firm refusal put an end to their pestering. Contemplating the need to deal with unfriendly neighbors for another two months, he too was troubled. However, that was Stone’s problem. After Su Shi crafted two blunt weapons for Shana, Lin Wu and Shana said their goodbyes and left with the others.
The standard blunt weapons made by Su Shi were quite shoddy – one was a wooden baseball bat. The other was a water pipe beat stick, which meant adding a U-shaped joint at the top of the pipe. However, Gale Combo’s skills were quite powerful. When he started attacking, it was like drumming on wooden stakes, rendering the zombies rigid and stuck in place, taking continuous hits.
