After ensuring temporary safety, Lucy asked softly, "Can you guys rescue Davis?"

"Davis?"

Lucy told the two of them that Davis was the soldier assigned to protect her personally, who had stayed behind to cover her retreat and fight off the zombies. Lucy said to the two of them, "He’s 80 meters to the west of my hiding spot."

As soon as she finished, a system prompt appeared, and a countdown of 120 seconds began. They had 120 seconds to reach Davis and administer painkillers to save him.

Lin Wu read the word "damn" in Maya’s eyes. Maya said, "There are no zombies around the hiding spot, but we can’t wait for the zombies to disperse." The group they had just provoked were leisurely making their way home.

Maya asked Lucy, "Can you stay here and not move?"

It wasn’t until Maya saw Davis that she understood what Lin Wu meant. The burden that was already close to being too much became excessive; Davis’s weight of 100 kilograms plus 30 kilograms of equipment meant Maya had to put Davis down every few meters to recover her stamina. This was due to the fact that they were too few in number to take turns carrying the weight.

But this wasn’t even the biggest problem. When they were 20 meters from Lucy, Davis began to cough violently. Being injured and unable to walk was understandable, as was coughing from an injury, but Lin Wu did not want to understand. Because from a store ten meters away, a dozen zombies burst out and charged towards them.

Maya threw Davis to the ground and immediately entered shooting mode with Lin Wu. Although they managed to kill all the zombies, one leaped from the second floor, making a loud noise.

Maya ran ten meters; Lin Wu picked up Davis, and Maya stood ground and shot the pursuing zombies dead. Lin Wu ran forward six meters and dropped Davis beside Lucy, then turned around to cover Maya. Maya opened the map to reconfirm the retreat direction and picked up Davis. As they were now a group of four with the combat power of one, they didn’t dare enter any buildings, choosing to walk along the center line of the street instead.

Vanguard Linwu raised his fist, and everyone stopped. Linwu took aim and killed two zombies standing 25 meters away on the roadside. There were ten more zombies around them, but they didn’t hear the gunfire. All they heard was the sound of their comrades falling and saw them lying on the ground, so they remained still.

For safety, Linwu took out all the zombies. During this time, zombies hiding in the buildings ran to the dead zombies’ side, but they too failed to find the enemy at the source of the noise and quickly scattered.

There were 100 meters left to the extraction point. The four of them moved along next to a bus, but suddenly a zombie jumped out from inside the bus. Linwu broke into a run with a speed boost from Wind Stinger, moving rapidly to 20 meters away before turning back to shoot the zombie.

At that moment, many zombies emerged from shops on both sides. Linwu started singling them out, killing two for every three shots. He had to thank the four who were still hanging and screaming; they had helped Linwu practice and hone his Gun Skill.

Maya, leading Lucy and carrying Davis, ran wildly towards Linwu. She knew she needed to be as far from the source of the noise as possible. Linwu’s decision to flee first was meant to create distance from the sound.

After running ten meters, Maya threw Davis down and turned to shoot with her Repeating Crossbow. More than twenty zombies were chasing her, and their numbers were increasing. Luckily, the ones that were closer had been taken care of by Linwu. After a bout of shooting, the nearest zombies were now more than fifteen meters away.

The visual range of the green zombies exceeded 15 meters, and some of them were still in pursuit. However, with the gun and crossbow combined, they were Invincible; one by one, the zombies’ heads exploded, and they fell to the ground. The fallen zombies created a new and closest noise source. Once the zombies reached this new source, if the distance to the players was less than 15 meters, they would continue the chase.

Of course, this was with respect to Maya. The effect of Lin Wu’s Stealth was very clear, directly halving the visual distance. After recovering her stamina, Maya dropped Lin Wu and picked up Davis to continue towards the extraction point. The zombies finally stopped 9 meters away from Lin Wu. Visually, there were more than 40 zombies gathered.

Seeing this, Lin Wu no longer fired and held his gun as he slowly retreated.

The extraction point was on the second floor helipad of one of the hospital buildings, accessible without entering the hospital, by climbing up the exterior stairs.

The four of them safely reached the helipad. Maya didn’t rush to contact Falcon and said, "Do a sweep."

Lin Wu deployed the drone and said, "There are about 40 zombies within a 30-meter radius."

"Reload with full magazines." Maya switched the channel, "Hunter calling Falcon."

"Falcon received."

"Two VIPs requesting extraction."

"Understood Falcon, arriving in 5 minutes. Please do not stray more than 20 meters from the extraction point."

"Hunter understands, over and out."

The door was on the southern side, and the exterior stairs were on the west. Lin Wu and Maya crouched in the southwest corner of the helipad. The scientist obediently followed and crouched beside Maya, while Davis remained lying on the ground.
