Chapter 153: Chapter 118 Bounty Hunter

Lin Wu pulled Maya back into Stealth, waiting until the zombies outside lost their target, stopped their chattering, and gradually dispersed.

The two stood in front of the chubby uncle, who excitedly said, "A brave heart has led you here..."

After five minutes of nonsense, the gist was that the city hall was now the Bounty Hunter headquarters of Fortress Company; completing missions would grant one Bounty Hunter status. Once a Bounty Hunter, one could come here to receive missions for rewards. The rewards included a variety of fashionable and warm clothing, a range of weapons and firearms, numerous prop Skill Books, and seasonal trendy outfits, among others.

Bounty missions were divided into ten stars, with ten stars being the most difficult and offering the best rewards.

Since they were the first group to reach the Left County Bounty Hunter headquarters, the uncle granted them a special privilege; they could start accepting missions from 2 stars. Of course, they first needed to obtain the Bounty Hunter status.

With a wave of his hand, the chubby uncle made countless envelopes appear on the table: "Randomly draw your own mission."

Lin Wu stretched out his fingers, the envelope came to hand, and Maya leaned in to take a look. Lin Wu opened the envelope and read, "Kill a Frenzy on your own, within seven days. Fatso, looking down on someone?" He grabbed his dagger and stepped out the door: "That one, come here." The surrounding zombies stirred collectively.

Group fights were a bad idea. Lin Wu turned back around: "Uncle, is there a back door?"

The chubby uncle pointed towards the back; Maya pulled out an envelope: "Two left hands, five right hands, three right legs. Mission tip: after receiving this mission, when attacking zombies with Sharp Blade, there’s a certain chance of severing limbs."

They sneakily went to the back door, which opened onto a street. The zombie density was still high, about ten meters away from the safe zone. Lin Wu left the safe zone, took his Silencer, and shot at a Frenzy about ten meters away, which happily ran over to its death.

By comparison, Maya’s mission was much more difficult. The biggest problem was her swordsmanship; with intermediate swordsmanship, her Beheading rate was quite high, often beheading a zombie after just a couple of slashes.

On one side, Lin Wu offered a rotten idea: "Corpses."

Maya turned around to look at Lin Wu: "Dismemberment?"

Lin Wu spread his hands: "Perhaps Dawn needs to cultivate some psychopathic killers."

Sorry, Dawn was very upright. Corpses were just corpses; they could not be dismembered or destroyed. So, Lin Wu sat aside and watched Maya chop, cheering her on: "Good, one slash, two slashes... Itchy hands? No beheadings. One slash, aiyah, my momma. One slash, oh wow. One slash, two slashes, three slashes, hang in there, four slashes... It fell, did a left leg fall off? Have you done too many bad things?"

Maya turned around, brandishing her knife with a murderous aura, and Lin Wu immediately lowered his voice: "What a pity."

Maya slapped Lin Wu’s head with the knife three times, then continued chopping.

The task efficiency was dismal; it took Maya 5 minutes to chop off just one left hand, while Lin Wu clapped in support: "Good." Eh? There’s that murderous intent again!

Lin Wu quickly said: "Use two knives, main hand for swordsmanship, off-hand without swordsmanship." I’m really too clever; it’s true what they say about necessity being the mother of invention. Without Maya’s murderous aura, I’d never have thought of such a brilliant trick. All for survival!

Maya drew a second knife and began hacking at the zombies with her off-hand, indeed, not triggering Beheading, and her efficiency instantly improved. Unlucky zombies had their limbs sliced off before finally being killed.

Lin Wu sat on the steps, hands cupped to his mouth as he shouted: "No need to thank me."

Maya instantly lost the will to fight and pointed the knife at Lin Wu: "You, get back inside."

"Careful," Lin Wu cautioned. Maya turned around and beheaded a zombie that was attempting to sneak up from behind, then faced a second one. Lin Wu sighed: "I actually want to just leave you to fend for yourself. No thanks after helping you, and instead, you’re thinking about chopping me too. But reality is harsh; without me, wouldn’t you have been ambushed? Don’t use the main hand, you idiot."

Unable to help herself, Maya retorted: "Didn’t you see there were three of them?"

Lin Wu: "You can’t deal with three?"

Fortunately, it was only a game. If there was someone in real life constantly chattering and watching the commotion, Maya wasn’t sure she could refrain from beating him up.

In any case, with Lin Wu’s cheering, Maya finally completed her task too, and a Bounty Hunter insignia appeared on the left chest of both their outer garments.

The chubby uncle explained the Bounty Hunter rules.

First, one could only take on one mission at a time.

Second, each mission had a deadline. Failing a mission would result in deduction of Bounty points.

Third, accumulating enough Bounty points would qualify one for advancement to higher-level Bounty Hunters.

Fourth, one could provide a base address, so upon completing a mission, the prize would be delivered to the base by courier.

Fifth, missions were selected via a drawing. One wouldn’t know the content of the mission nor the rewards before accepting it.

Maya asked, "This building doesn’t have anything else?"

The chubby uncle replied, "There’s also me."

Maya, speechless, asked, "Then how do we get back?"

The chubby uncle: "The same way you came."

Lin Wu drew his dagger and pressed it against the chubby uncle’s neck: "Speak nicely, or I’ll take you down."

The chubby uncle replied unflustered, "Even the zombies don’t dare to come near me, what makes you think you can threaten me?"

Stab! An ineffective object, dead Dawn. (The rotting uncle was the only NPC that wouldn’t be attacked by zombies.)

The chubby uncle suggested, "I recommend you learn more about this building. With some luck, you’ll be able to leave safely."

Lin Wu put away his dagger: "Let’s start with a two-star mission first."

Maya admired Lin Wu’s composure, facing a desperate situation with no sign of panic. Dude, we’ve just lost a car and are surrounded by countless zombies, and you still have the mood to take on missions?
