Chapter 151: Chapter 117 Night Raid
Continuing dismantling cars at the automotive graveyard, Lin Wu asked, "Did Snow Egg not come because of the draw?"
When Lin Wu asked this question, Shana couldn’t help but laugh, "No, he got drunk last night."
Lin Wu puzzled, "Is there any connection?"
Shana replied, "Drinking gives courage, so he started confessing."
Lin Wu got it, "Rejected by you, he didn’t come to avoid embarrassment."
Shana said, "Half right."
Lin Wu, "Which half?"
Shana, "You guess."
After pondering for a moment, Lin Wu gasped, "Could it be that avoiding embarrassment is correct? But being rejected by you is wrong."
Shana, surprised, "Your way of thinking is very interesting. Assuming I didn’t reject Snow Egg, why would he be afraid of embarrassment?"
Lin Wu replied, "Because the one he confessed to wasn’t you."
Shana, stunned, "That’s possible, you actually guessed it?"
Lin Wu proudly smiled, "Lin Wu, ’Lin’ as in forest, ’Wu’ as in fog."
Shana, not giving up, "Guess who was the one he confessed to?"
Lin Wu blurted out instantly, "Little Knife, Little Knife is not very active today. Typically, she’d be joining the commotion at the supermarket base, crying and yelling about playing with guns, but she didn’t."
Shana stood rooted to the spot, "You got it right."
The story within a story. A drunk Snow Egg courageously confessed to Shana, encouraged by a half-drunk Horse Soul. Shana and Little Knife were chatting about bestie topics on the edge of a cliff. Snow Egg’s fall and embrace of his foot scared Little Knife pale. Snow Egg bravely said the "I love you" buried in his heart. Little Knife didn’t know how to respond and kicked him down the cliff.
Shana stated, "I must say, having dual physical attributes and more health is truly significant. He didn’t die even after falling off a cliff over ten meters high."
Lin Wu could imagine the base being in chaos that night, lively and exciting, and said somewhat regretfully, "Group living is indeed better, plenty of juicy stories. Maya and I, apart from hacking at monsters, are just talking about how to be more efficient at it."
Shana asked, "Do you like Maya?"
"Of course."
Shana clarified, "No, I mean, you know what I mean."
Lin Wu thought seriously for two seconds, then had an epiphany, "Men can only affect Maya’s sword-drawing speed, and women can only affect my lethal stealth. We have zombies, that’s enough. We can talk about relationships when we have a peaceful world where humans live happily. However, I used to think Little Knife and I clicked."
"And actually?"
Lin Wu stated, "In reality, Maya is actually a better partner for me."
"The best is?"
Lin Wu, "Of course, it’s you."
"Oh... you deadbeat." Shana held her forehead, "I feel like you’re not unable to sweet-talk girls; you just disdain doing it."
"I disdain sweet-talking guys too," Lin Wu said, then fell silent for a few seconds, adding, "Being happy is what matters, why must we do something definite or avoid something definite?"
Shana said, "Although I don’t quite understand, could you please not stop dismantling the cars?"
Lin Wu offered a smile and continued, "I broke up with my ex-girlfriend, and others thought I was an idiot for it. Being with my ex was hassle-free and would have saved me twenty years of struggle. This troubled me, so I asked an old friend of mine, a fat man, rather like Stone, just older. He asked me if I was happy now. I said I was. He said, ’Then you’re good as long as you’re happy. Why bother about gains and losses? You could have saved yourself from twenty years of struggle, but you also would have been missing twenty years of happiness. Don’t measure your gains and losses by other people’s values.’"
Lin Wu explained, "You’d be happy if I said nice things, and I feel happy knowing you’re happy, so I said what would make you happy."
Shana understood, "Before, when we weren’t close, you didn’t care whether I was happy or not, because my mood didn’t affect yours at all. You don’t team up with me anymore after I die because my death leads you to some unhappy experiences."
"That’s about right," Lin Wu answered. "But that’s just that fat man’s point of view. He turned into a pure hedonist after his divorce. His word isn’t necessarily correct."
Shana, grasping it further, "You found grinding Blood Plague with Little Knife utterly boring, which was the first time you felt that being with her wasn’t interesting. When you and Maya are a team, your rhythms match, which is why you like teaming up with Maya."
Lin Wu didn’t deny it, "Maya can handle details I might miss, such as planning routes in advance, arranging supplies, and setting schedules. When that dead Little Knife was grinding Blood Zombies, she barely spoke to me! Hmph! Hours went by with just a few words: lure the zombies, I’m stepping out of the car to deal with a few zombies, I’m back, lure the zombies..."
Shana laughed, then after thinking, she said, "I have a secret."
Lin Wu hurriedly said, "Keep your own secrets in your heart, I like hearing gossip, I don’t like sharing others’ secrets." When in doubt, it’s better not to speak.
Shana angrily insisted, "I want to say, and I will."
Lin Wu immediately surrendered, "Please, do tell."
Shana, both annoyed and amused, wondered what kind of person this was...
Gathering her emotions, Shana slowly revealed, "I’m an official employee of the Blue Star Fortress Company..." waiting for a reaction.
Seeing Shana expecting a reaction, Lin Wu clapped immediately, "That’s awesome."
That’s not the reaction she wanted. Shana held her forehead and continued, "On the eve of the migration, the president of Fortress met with 88 Blue Star employees migrating to Earth. After we arrived on Earth, we could report directly to the Fortress Company. Our specific positions and the assessment of our points would be arranged by the system."
