Chapter 130: Chapter 106 Healing Wounds

The motorcycle burst out of the bus station, but damned there was a 10-centimeter-high speed bump at the entrance, sending the motorcycle airborne. Luckily, Maya held on tight to the handlebars and landed smoothly. Unfortunately for Lin Wu, gripping the Silencer with both hands, he took flight from the back seat. He had hoped to land back on the motorcycle’s rear seat like in the movies and look super cool for Dawn. Instead, he found himself hitting the ground hard in a face-plant when the motorcycle had already passed by.

Lin Wu stifled his pain long enough to swallow a painkiller pill first, prioritizing pain relief over stopping the bleeding. When Maya turned back, Lin Wu was already standing up. Maya didn’t go over to pick Lin Wu up, but instead, turned around and drove in an S pattern to draw as many of the nearby zombies away as possible. Lin Wu, with his Wind Stinger, broke through the surrounding zombies and ran wildly. That’s when Frenzy appeared, and upon seeing Lin Wu covered in fresh blood, it started a mad chase.

Facing the relentless Frenzy, Lin Wu wore a proud smile and slowed his pace, never expecting four Frenzies to come sprinting at him from the streets on both sides, followed by an endless horde of zombies.

Cursing, Lin Wu broke into a run.

The motorcycle kept going in front, pulling the zombies blocking Lin Wu’s path to one side, with Lin Wu chasing after the motorcycle, and five Frenzies ten meters away keeping up the relentless pursuit.

Lin Wu threw down a Beast Trap, but to his surprise, a Frenzy leaped over it. He then threw a Beast Trap over his shoulder without looking back. With a snap, one Frenzy’s leg was caught. He threw another, and halted another. After all three Beast Traps were deployed, and his stamina was nearly depleted, the remaining damned three Frenzies still followed as shadows, determined to kill their enemy under their fangs.

Ahead, Maya saw that they had reached the bridge, where the number of zombies had greatly decreased. Stopping the motorcycle, Maya took out a Molotov Cocktail from her backpack, lit it, and stepped back onto the bridge. Lin Wu intuitively jumped over the motorcycle, and followig suit, Maya smashed the Molotov Cocktail onto the motorcycle. The flames from the Molotov Cocktail disrupted the Frenzies’ direct chase.

When the Frenzies tried to bypass the flames, the motorcycle exploded, sending a blaze into the sky and setting one of the Frenzies aflame. After rolling on the ground twice to extinguish the flames, it realized that it could no longer find its foes, now only able to trust in the two brothers that had chased over the bridge.

After shaking off the burning Frenzy, Maya stood her ground and attacked. A quick shot from her small pistol drove one away, but she was knocked down by another. Lin Wu, having regained some stamina, quickly arrived and pinned the Frenzy’s head next to Maya’s head on the concrete, stabbing it to death.

Lying on the ground, Maya raised her gun and hit the Frenzy charging towards Lin Wu from behind, buying precious time for Lin Wu. After dealing with the Frenzy in hand, Lin Wu used his last bit of stamina to finish off the last Frenzy.

"Life’s almost out," Maya said. "Life cap is only 18 points." Compared to that, the infection seemed trivial.

Lin Wu handed her a bandage to stop the bleeding and applied a splint to himself. "What about the motorcycle?" They had no repair kits left.

Helplessly, Maya said, "Let Bai Ban send us a repair kit tomorrow."

Lin Wu asked, "So today, we can only walk on foot?"

Maya replied, "You wouldn’t mind adding your hands to that equation as well."

Shocked, Lin Wu saw Maya, who knew what he was going to say, cover her left face and walk away. A thrilling battle had left Maya in high spirits, unintentionally cracking a joke. It might have been the first joke she’d made since joining Shadow. Even if the joke wasn’t particularly funny, it was enough to shock Lin Wu on the spot.

...

After adding eight building materials, it was just enough to upgrade a bed once and build a medical station. While upgrading, Lin Wu saw ten or so zombie red dots on the base’s electronic map, a sight unseen on top of the mountaintop church. The distance was great, separated by many obstacles, so Lin Wu paid it no mind and stayed by Maya’s side, ostensibly concerned about his partner but actually indicating his eagerness to lie down too.

Maya had a life cap of 18 points, and even after applying the bandage, Lin Wu only had a life cap of 50 points. He suffered from four fractures and two burns.

"Calling Maya," Stone’s voice came over the radio.

Lin Wu went over and picked up the communicator: "Maya is healing." One of the perks of being tiny was that it only took two steps to reach the radio.

"Hm? How did she get hurt?"

"In and out of a zombie tide seven times just to find two bags of building material," Lin Wu said, seeing Maya signal to him and taking the hint. "Stone."

"Yes?"

Lin Wu said, "Have Bai Ban bring a repair kit tomorrow, the motorcycle’s blown up."

"Damn, what the hell did you guys do?"

Lin Wu replied, "It’s a long story."

Stone pressed, "Give me the short version."

Lin Wu said, "That was the short version."

Stone asked incredulously, "What?"

Lin Wu clarified, "In and out of the zombie tide seven times."

Astonished, Stone exclaimed, "You guys really risked your lives in a zombie tide just for two bags of building material? And all got hurt?"

Sighing, Lin Wu said, "Most of the time, I’m not joking; you just refuse to believe it."

Frustrated, Stone argued, "You’ve only been gone a few hours, not happy until you kill yourselves, huh?"

Hearing this, Maya got out of bed, walked over, and took the communicator: "It’s my fault, I underestimated the power of the horde."

Stone’s tone immediately softened: "You be careful."

Maya replied, "Hmm. Ask Su Shi to make me two machetes."

Stone inquired, "Didn’t you have three with you?"

Maya said, "Two broke."

Stone was speechless for a moment before asking, "How’s Lin Wu?"

Maya turned to see Lin Wu sneaking onto the sickbed and answered, "He hasn’t said, but I think he also had a close call with death."

"Nonsense," Lin Wu retorted. "I had a close call with life."
