Chapter 128: Chapter 105: Bloody Battle_2
Compared to North Town, the farm has relatively abundant resources. Shadow Base didn’t want to have conflicts with the native inhabitants, so they scavenged the map, staying well away from them. Currently, there are players from North Town driving to the farm to search for resources, which due to the proximity to the natives, has led to some conflicts.
Because of the supermarket’s unique layout, no one would choose it as a base, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility that some people might come here to scavenge supplies.
Lin Wu and Maya weren’t in a rush to scavenge. They took 40 minutes to clean out the supermarket and secured it for themselves. Soon after, their personal Shadow outpost was established.
After the establishment of the outpost, the situation was beyond Lin Wu and Maya’s expectations. The L-shaped supermarket’s main section, which was over two-thousand square meters, was not capturable. The capturable part was at the bottom of the "L," which included the warehouse, offices, staff changing rooms and showers. A three-meter-wide, twenty-meter-long corridor connected the main supermarket body with the staff’s logistic working area.
The actual built-up area of the outpost was only just over two hundred square meters. The safe zone had a radius of thirty meters, including half of the supermarket, the parking lot at the eastern entrance and an open space that led from the northern entrance to White Birch Forest Park. Zombies would wander into the base from time to time. Overall, the outpost was an easily attackable but hard-to-defend junk base.
Good news: Non-siege zombies wouldn’t damage player buildings. Bad news: You were likely to be gnawed on by zombies while sleeping.
The situation was worse than Maya had thought, so she could only contact Su Shi to make some bells as a night-time alert system.
The outpost’s building units were 1+1+3. The first ’1’ was a large indoor square, a unique supermarket building: storage warehouse, where the storage limit for the five major resources reached 50 points, surpassing Shadow Base’s 45 points with full warehouses.
The second ’1’ was a large outdoor square, located on the rooftop, accessible via the direct lift next to the radio.
The three small squares were opposite the storage warehouse, separated by a three-meter wide hallway. One end of the hallway led to the staff exit at the north door, while the other end connected to the supermarket.
Correct, the actual living area of the outpost was just one hallway, with the storage warehouse on the left and three small rooms on the right. The radio and item storage were to the left of the three small rooms. So, there was also a piece of good news. During a zombie siege, all they had to do was defend this hallway.
Lin Wu said, "It’s very shabby." Even worse than the earliest Shadow Base.
In response to Lin Wu’s comment, Maya could only offer a wry smile. Initially, she thought they would own a supermarket, but in the end, all they had was a hallway. Maya said, "Let’s scavenge for building materials. In the evening, we still have to meet ’Nightmare’ at the tunnel. Let’s talk as we walk."
The two of them started to dismantle small crates and tear up cardboard boxes. The clean supermarket had no corners to hide valuable items.
Maya: "The storage warehouse absolutely can’t be touched. A dormitory and a medical room are indispensable. The only possible construction sites are the large outdoor square on the rooftop and one small indoor square."
Lin Wu suggested, "How about building a sentry tower on the large square?"
"No problem," Maya knew Lin Wu wanted to play with guns. The outpost’s terrain was much worse than the mountain top base. Building a twenty-meter high sentry tower was a good idea, and it didn’t need ammunition to reduce the threat level—it was purely for Lin Wu’s entertainment. Maya asked, "What about the remaining small square?"
Lin Wu said, "You better not ask. If you do, it’s going to be for eating, drinking, and having fun."
"Hehe." Maya gave a gentle smile and said, "How about building a library?"
Lin Wu checked the buildings and found the library, saying, "The library can provide all literature works before 2044, excluding reference and professional books. Apart from building materials, we also need 20 volumes of world classics. By the way, I have no idea what counts as a classic in this era."
Maya said, "Journey to the West, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Pride and Prejudice, Corrupted States, and many more. I’ll take care of the books." The thought made Maya somewhat sad. The apartments near the church on the mountain top had many world classics, but unfortunately, they were all torn up into paper.
Maya knew that every square in the Shadow Base was precious. Now that there was a chance for ’eating, drinking, and having fun,’ her first thought was of a library. Maya had wanted a library from the beginning and had even discussed it with Stone. Considering the need to reduce entertainment activities in the game and focus more on leveling up, she hadn’t brought it up again.
The two had overestimated the supermarket. After combing through the entire place, they didn’t find a single packet of building materials. Just a few days earlier, when Lin Wu casually browsed through the supermarket while being held up at Sentry Card, he found three packets of construction materials with ease. Where did all the materials go? Eaten by dogs?
They finally found one packet of construction materials in the park’s gazebo, enough to put up a bed, and only one at that. It was then that Lin Wu truly appreciated the hard work of Bai Ban. Looking at the time, it was only one o’clock in the afternoon. The two pulled out the map and pondered for a long time but couldn’t find any facility nearby that would surely yield construction materials.
"Then let’s go to Left County," just a five-minute drive away.
Maya proposed, Lin Wu executed. Lin Wu suggested, Maya agreed. Working as a team, they didn’t even consider Titans a threat. So, they got on the motorbike, and with Maya’s flamboyant maneuvering and speed, they bypassed one zombie after another, rushing straight to the main building of the bus station. However, as they entered, a horde of zombies followed them inside.
Maya guarded the staircase, Lin Wu watched for any surprise attacks from the rear, sniping the screamers and Exploding Carnage. When Frenzy lunged at them, they switched places. As Lin Wu pinned Frenzy on the staircase, Maya straddled over Lin Wu, cutting at both high and low levels.
