Chapter 1008: Chapter 436 Hellfire_2

Nightmare asked, "Do we have the resources to blow up the bridge one more time?"

Shana retorted, "Why would you think that?"

Nightmare said, "I always feel like you’re holding back. Dawn knows everything we say and do, why deceive us?"

Shana glanced at everyone, saw that no one objected, and said, "There is a locator installed in the bridge hole on the upper side of the west bank, it’s a military signal transmitter. If the zombies cut off our retreat, we will contact the eastern base and ask them to use heavy artillery for strikes."

"Not to mention that all bases in Day After Tomorrow City are surrounded," Nightmare asked, "Even if the eastern base is big and powerful, on what grounds do you think they would help you? Just because you shot Nightmare?"

Shana replied, "No, Baldy owes us a favor, and one of his brothers in life and death is an influential military officer at the eastern base. Baldy has made the arrangements, and he gave us his phone number. But we really can’t predict the outcome of the bombardment, it’s highly unlikely that God will favor us twice, just right to blast the gap we need, without damaging the base’s structure."

Nightmare: "But if they do come from behind later on, we’ll have to fight hard."

Shana nodded: "Any other ideas on Dawn’s approach?"

Lin Meng: "Dawn could just turn the air conditioning to absolute zero and freeze us to death."

Lin Wu explained, "Although both our names have the character ’Lin,’ I really don’t know her."

After chatting for a while more, with no one else having any insights, they could only arrange the duty personnel. When soldiers come, block them, when water comes, cover it with earth. Starting today, everyone will stop taking baths, and while sleeping, only take off their coats, never parting with their weapons.

On day 176 in the afternoon at six o’clock, as the scorching sun slowly set and the red moon began to rise, everyone stood by the railing looking north, at a seemingly endless horde of zombies pressing against the riverside.

Shana said, "Did you notice? The surface is starting to freeze. Perhaps by tonight, the ice will be thick enough for zombies to cross." Previously, due to the alternating day and night temperatures and the water’s warmth, The Day After Tomorrow River did not freeze significantly. But now, as Dawn was set on killing everyone, they started to cheat by cooling down the entire river.

"That’s just how Dawn is, everyone rest well tonight."

...

In the early hours, Lin Wu and Blood Meng took over from the duty personnel. The two lay in the broken train for a while, and with Blood Meng bored out of his mind, he naturally didn’t miss the opportunity to flirt with Lin Wu. Knowing that a woman’s mouth is a deceitful ghost and that a boy must learn to protect himself when outside, never to be fooled by a woman’s sweet words, he got out of the car to cook noodles at the back.

At this moment, the first Frenzy that followed the current grabbed onto a bridge pier and used its claws to climb up, then a second and third. Numerous Frenzies followed the four bridge piers, attacking the railway bridge’s base.

Lin Wu opened the coal stove’s blower, and the fire immediately blazed, scooping up a spoonful of snow onto the fire. He looked up at the blood moon, feeling a sense of indescribable mood. A Frenzy grabbed onto the railing, jumped on it, and stood face to face with Lin Wu just 50 centimeters away.

Lin Wu, on instinct, grabbed the pot by his hand and smacked it, sending the Frenzy flying like a baseball. At this time, Lin Meng was still confused: how did it get up here? The bridge deck extended far beyond the supporting beams underneath. Was it equivalent to climbing up a wall and then over the ceiling? Isn’t that shameless? What kind of claws can hold onto weight of tens of kilograms?

Lin Wu turned to look at the left side of the train, one by one, Frenzies flipped over the railing and into the passageway.

"Frenzies, enemy attack." Lin Wu drew his pistol, two shots killing two Frenzies.

The dormitory carriage was in chaos. Lin Wu heard someone fall and cry out, and it took a while for the lights to turn on.

After killing two more Frenzies, the Frenzies on the right had already climbed onto the roof. A Frenzy leaped from the roof towards Lin Wu. Lin Wu shoved his left arm into the Frenzy’s mouth and swung it forcefully, smashing the stubborn Frenzy’s head against the stone railing. His pistol was no longer usable, so Lin Wu pulled out his dagger and started fighting the Frenzies up close.

Wearing a helmet, donned in a bulletproof vest, his arm wrapped in cloth, relying on strong defense and agility, along with an understanding of the situation, Lin Wu took down the Frenzies one by one. There was technique, strength, and equipment, but endurance is ultimately limited, especially close combat quickly drained Lin Wu’s stamina.

A hand grabbed Lin Wu by the collar from behind and dragged him out of the left passageway of the train. Lin Wu drew the pistol from his thigh and headshot the Frenzy that had pounced on him.

After pulling Lin Wu out of the left passageway, Su Shi casually picked up a Nail-Pulling Hammer and began to fight the Frenzies. Unlike Lin Wu, he didn’t even wear a bulletproof vest and was soon bitten a few times, his blood attracting even more Frenzies. Lin Wu did not notice Su Shi nearby; he was fully engaged in suppressing the Frenzies in the left passageway, trying to alleviate the pressure on the carriage’s occupants as much as possible.

When Lin Wu turned back to look at Su Shi again, he only saw Su Shi embracing four Frenzies and jumping off the bridge.

"Damn it."

Gunfire was resounding everywhere, everyone was fighting for themselves, and with the rat-tat-tat, everyone was worried about accidentally injuring their comrades. At the critical moment, Shana shouted, "Get to the roof, everyone, get to the roof. Blood Meng, close your cabin door and hold the broken bridge."

Lin Wu was the first to get to the roof, where there weren’t many Frenzies. As he walked, he cleared them out. Newly climbed Frenzies on the roof were unable to launch immediate attacks, which lessened some of the pressure. Then Little Knife, Snow Egg, and others all stood on top of the train, taking various firearms and beginning to clear out the Frenzies that had made it into the base.

Shana roared, "Burn the nets, burn all the net ropes." She finally realized where the problem lay.

The bridge piers were too small to climb directly into the camp, and the railway bridge too wide. But, damn, for the convenience of fishing and cooling off in the summer, net ropes had been laid on the railings of both sides of the train. Frenzies climbing to the top of the bridge piers could simply jump and catch the ropes, then climb along them onto the railway bridge.
