Chapter 2572: Indignant? You Can Only Accept It
As Zu An coldly stared at him with a giant red bow in hand, the Golden Crow First Prince felt so frightened that his feathers stood on end.
“Big brother, it’s a misunderstanding! It’s all a misunderstanding!” He squeezed out a smile.
“I prefer your earlier arrogance.” Zu An didn’t hesitate to draw his bowstring and manifest a white arrow.
“I was wrong, big brother. I know my mistake now. We shouldn’t have come out together in a moment of mischief, but I have at least worked hard to bring light to the world over the years. Please spare my life this once. I’ll do more good in the future to make up for my mistake.”
The Golden Crow First Prince had always been fawned on wherever he went; he had never been so subservient. I’ll slowly settle the score with him if I survive this ordeal. As formidable as he is, he's still nothing more than an unaffiliated cultivator. How can he compare to me, the noble son of a Celestial Emperor?
Zu An sighed. He remembered a classic line he had read in his previous life’s NovelFires. “You don’t know your mistakes. You just know that you’re going to die.”
He released his bowstring, and the white light instantaneously appeared before the Golden Crow First Prince.
Just then, Zu An’s expression suddenly turned grim. The Golden Crow First Prince’s head didn’t explode as he had anticipated—some force had stopped his arrow. He looked closer and saw that a golden bell had manifested around the Golden Crow First Prince.
The golden bell was translucent and inscribed with obscure divine runes. It felt as if it was cloaked in a light, fluttery veil. Only those whose cultivation had reached a certain level could feel the dao flowing through it. Feeling the inviolable nature of the golden bell, Zu An suddenly felt as if his Tranquility Bell was a terrible bootleg.
A divine melody hummed as the space in front of Zu An slowly parted to reveal chaos within, before light suddenly burst forth. A figure slowly manifested amid the light. It was a man with long silver hair that cascaded like the Milky Way. The ends of his hair contained the sun’s flames, and they singed the area around them. He wore a black imperial robe with dark golden patterns that seemed to be forged out of the souls of countless primordial beasts. His very presence commanded heaven’s authority.
His eyes were gentle, but his gaze left Zu An feeling as if needles had stung him. This caused goosebumps to rise all over his body.
“How bizarre. A shaman’s aura mixed with a human’s bloodline...” The silver-haired man assessed Zu An, not understanding.
“Emperor Jun?” Zu An took a deep breath to loosen the tension in his muscles.
The silver-haired man shook his head. “Emperor Jun is my brother. People call me Taiyi.”
“Donghuang Taiyi!” Zu An’s eyes narrowed. That’s a supreme god whose standing in the legends equals Emperor Jun! The golden bell must be the legendary East Emperor Bell, renowned as the number one innate defensive artifact in the world. No wonder my arrow couldn’t pierce it!
Upon seeing Donghuang Taiyi, the Golden Crow First Prince straightened his hunched back and exclaimed, “Uncle, that scoundrel killed my other brothers! You must avenge us!”
This fellow is dead meat! Uncle has always doted on us! Now that uncle is here, no one can touch us anymore!
“Are the other Golden Crows dead?” Donghuang Taiyi was taken aback.
Sensing a powerful aura locking onto him, Zu An calmly replied, “I was only able to take down eight of them. The world can’t be without a sun, but two suns is still one too many. One will suffice.”
Donghuang Taiyi’s expression turned cold. “Hoh. You intend to continue your slaughter?”
The Golden Crow First Prince took this chance to hide behind Donghuang Taiyi as he looked at Zu An with a gloating expression. He’s asking for it. Where does he find the guts to continue running his mouth in my uncle’s presence? Does he take my uncle to be a pushover?
Zu An remained unfazed despite the immense pressure coming from Donghuang Taiyi. “The ten suns emerged simultaneously, causing countless lives to wither and die. They deserve to die for the sins they have committed. Do you, an esteemed personage in the Celestial Court, intend to violate the celestial laws?”
Donghuang Taiyi calmly replied, “They will be judged under the celestial laws; it’s not up to you to judge their crimes and punish them. Besides, they have diligently brought light to the masses over the years. How many living beings have prospered because of them? With the karma they have accrued, they don’t deserve death for such minor mistakes.”
“On the contrary, your crime of murdering the Celestial Court’s deities is much more grave. You ought to be sliced into bits.”
“Minor mistakes?” Zu An was first taken aback before abruptly bursting into laughter. “I thought you, with your exalted standing in the Celestial Court, would at least be capable of telling right from wrong. I didn’t expect you to have such double standards like anyone else.”
“Right from wrong?” Donghuang Taiyi scoffed. “The world simply observes its natural flow; it doesn’t exist to be right, and neither does it unravel over wrongs. All the talk about right and wrong is just self-deceiving, mortal babble. How hilarious it is for you to preach that to me with such seriousness.”
“Is it hilarious?” Zu An harrumphed. “You might think that humans are insignificant right now, and their values mean nothing to you. But one day, the concept of right and wrong will become mainstream in the world.”
Donghuang Taiyi’s face darkened. “How many years have you lived? How many years have I lived? Know your place! I am the stronger one here, and my standing is higher than yours. You’re just a mere unaffiliated cultivator. Even if I sentence you to death by a thousand cuts, you have no choice but to accept it, no matter how indignant you feel. This is the law of the world!”
He snapped his finger, and the air around Zu An suddenly turned turbulent. The gentle wind suddenly transformed into millions of incomparably sharp blades that covered every single inch of his skin.
“Uncle, don’t let him die an easy death!” the Golden Crow First Prince shouted excitedly.
The space around Zu An had been sealed off; he was unable to perform any defensive maneuvers. He couldn’t even use his instantaneous movement skills, let alone Rainbow Morph. No wonder he’s one of the top gods!
Without any hesitation, Zu An employed all his defensive methods. The Tranquility Bell manifested around him. After undergoing the heavenly tribulation, his Tranquility Bell had become many times stronger than before.
Even so, it was still instantly ripped through by the millions of air blades.
“How can that lousy bell of yours compare to my uncle’s...”
The Golden Crow First Prince was halfway through his sentence when his eyes nearly popped out. Another bell had appeared around Zu An, and it was the East Emperor Bell!
Living up to its reputation as the number one defensive artifact, it kept the countless terrifying air blades at bay.
Donghuang Taiyi was taken aback. “Rune Weapon Chart? How do you have that skill?”
