Chapter 67: Chapter 67 | Crimson and Amber

*snap...! *rustle...! *thud!

Boots thudded across the forest floor, snapping twigs and rustling leaves as the two charged towards the beast, weapons drawn.

The creature licked its bleeding wound, before swiftly leaping backwards with a sudden push from its powerful tail—gaining extra distance.

It wanted to retreat for a brief moment.

*THUD!

It landed resoundingly beside the lifeless body of the Jerkkaen, its claws digging into the ground as it began to steady itself.

"Watch out, Jinn," Kain warned, his eyes narrowing on the creature.

"It uses mostly its tail to attack, but we should watch out for its powerful swipes."

"Roger," Jinn replied calmly, his eyes never taking off from the beast as he tightened his stance.

At that moment, and in one swift motion—the beast drove its tail into the chest of the fallen Jerkkaen, snapping it and piercing it clean through.

It then slides the body in front of it, a trail of black blood on its wake.

The beast crouched low and lowered its head, then began to feast as black blood splattered across the ground as it tore deeper into the mangled corpse.

"What the hell is it doing?" Jinn’s eyes narrowed cautiously as he watched the beast’s maws tear through flesh and bones.

Then, with a sudden

That sounded like breaking bone, the beast’s severed arm began to sizzle as steam rose from the wound—the flesh shifting unnaturally.

A new arm burst out from the severed area, slick and raw but fully formed.

The beast slammed the fresh limb onto the ground, tapping it a few times as if testing its strength and movement.

Then within seconds, it stood firm, its arm fully restored as if it had never been cleaved off in the first place.

"So this is another Sanguine Beast," Jinn muttered, his eyes sharpening as he gripped Fangeryth even tighter.

"It can heal itself by feeding on others..."

"This one’s a real threat, Jinn." Kain added as his legs tensed, shifting into a ready stance before asking.

"So what’s the plan?"

"You go left, I’ll go right." Jinn said, his fingers pointing left and right before locking onto the creature’s tail.

"We distract it from both sides and strike once its focus breaks.’

Kainn nodded, his fingers pacing around the hilt of his sword.

"Got it—I’m ready when you are."

Without waiting any longer, the two surged forward with speed—boots thudding along the forest floor as their blades gleamed as it catched the sunlight piercing from the canopies up above.

*thud! *thud! *crunch! *rustle!

As planned, Jinn dashed towards the right while Kain cut off to the left, their sudden split made the beast divide its focus as it peered left and right.

Then, with a sudden snap—its eyes locked on Jinn, his head lowering slightly as its massive body shifted subtly towards his direction, its tail pacing for a strike.

Jinn caught the movement in an instant as his eye twitched.

Then he raised his elbow, positioning Fangeryth’s blade forward.

The sword’s crimson tipped edge glinted powerfully, like a spear ready to be plunged through armor and flesh.

Thin, red cracks of energy then flared across his legs, as if building pressure.

Then,

*BANG!

The earth cracked open beneath his feet as he launched forward with explosive force, sending a subtle tremor through the ground.

The sharp noise made the beast’s body even more tense as it shifted its body fully towards Jinn—deeming him as more dangerous.

It roared as it snapped its tail violently towards Jinn, aiming to intercept his sudden charge.

"NOW, KAIN!" Jinn shouted as he slipped through the beast’s attack.

"ROGER!" Kain answered immediately.

Amber colored eidra then surged around his sword, wrapping it in glowing arcs of power.

He dashed in close and swung hard, using every strength that he had to cut a clean arc through the air.

*SLASH!

His strike landed true as a spray of blood tore through the air—his blade tearing into the thinner muscle along the beast’s exposed side, just beneath the ribs.

*GROAR!!

The beast let out a deep and visceral roar before twisting towards Kain, its massive arm rearing backwards as it prepared for a brutal swipe towards Kain.

Kain has no shield.

If this were to hit, it would surely send Kain flying.

But Jinn was faster.

In a blink of crimson eidra, he closed the distance instantly as he drove Fangeryth deep into the beast’s legs.

*Schlick!

The blade plunged in with a sharp crack, red eidra flaring along the edges.

Then,

*BANG!

Jinn focused his eidra at the tip of the blade—specifically the part that was inside the beast.

A burst of crimson eidra exploded from within the sword, sending violet jolts surging through and around the beast’s body like thunder.

*G-G-GROAR!!!

The creature convulsed repeatedly, howling in pain as its limbs twitched.

Gripping its sharp teeth together, the beast roared as it spun its body and launched into the air using its own raw power.

At the same time it jumped, its bladed tail unleashed a full circle swipe around it.

Both Jinn and Kain raised their blades just in time as they braced for impact.

*Clang!

The sound of metal colliding echoed through the forest as the tail of the beast struck against their weapons.

Sparks flew, while both Kain and Jinn held their ground.

Then

*BOOM!

The beast slammed back into the earth, its landing cracked the ground beneath it.

As it landed, the shockwave rippled outward, shaking nearby trees, scattering leaves, and sending a numbing tremor through Jinn and Kain’s legs.

*Huff! *Huff! *Grrr!!!

The creature’s breathing grew louder, heavier, as black streaks of corrupted eidra writhed and travelled across its back and arms like wild strands of hair.

Its eyes burned a deeper red, filled with fury.

Jinn raised his sword again, eyes narrowing.

"The real fight begins now, Kain."

"I’m ready," Kain replied without hesitation, his grip tightening around the hilt of his blade.
