Chapter 60 | Primed and Ready
Chapter 60: Chapter 60 | Primed and Ready
*FWOOSH!
The powerful gust of mist flew straight across the faces of Orin, Verhedyn, Ophelia, and Vox,
Each of them instinctively raised their arms as they shield themselves from the unnatural mist crashing towards them like a wave of air.
*cough! *cough! *cough! *cough!
One by one, each child coughed as the fog rushed towards them and began to thicken—their throats catching the mist, making them hitch.
The surrounding area began to completely vanish and be swallowed by the mist, until only a white wall could only be seen.
Pure white.
Soundless.
And still.
A silence that rang even louder than noise itself, making the group of children be at edge.
Still, even during the chaos, the group managed to stay together.
Their eyes wide, stances low, muscles tensed and breathed shallow as they continued to look at their surroundings.
Left. Nothing.
Right. Nothing.
At the front. Nothing as well.
Even in the back. Pure white.
"There should be something attacking us." Verhedeyn scoffed, voice dry with sarcasm—yet alert at the same time.
"Any time now..." a hard, icy, and cold shimmer flickers across his palm.
It was his eidra, ready to be used if the need arises.
Ophelia, close with the group, and just behind Verhedyn—stood a low stance, her eyes sweeping through the fog.
Then, she noticed an ominous ripple in the mist—her eyes narrowed at the distinct movement of the air.
Until a figure appeared from within that made her on edge.
The figure was small in height.
Like a child.
A silhouette...
That looks familiar?
Vox, ever the sharp eye, fixed his glasses as he squinted.
His eyes locked on the silhouette, inspecting its familiar form as it drew closer to the group.
...until the figure fully appeared, the mist parting as it revealed itself fully.
It was Jinn.
Vox’s eyes widened before pointing with his finger. "Hey guys—it’s Jinn!" he spoke with relief.
Their faces snapped as soon as they heard Vox’s words, turning their gazes towards Jinn who was heading towards them.
Yet he was injured, a gush of blood streaming down his shoulder as he held his arm in pain—his legs dragging on the ground in struggle.
Ophelia’s eyes trembled as she exclaimed, "J-Jinn!" her legs tensed as she ran over to him, concern evident on her expression.
Just before Ophelia bursted off, Orin subtly touched her back with her fingers—a subtle violet eidra flickers as soon as she touches her.
Just in case. Orin thought as she followed Ophelia with her eyes.
Ophelia, now standing close to Jinn, had a concerned expression on her face—one of her hands already flickering with golden light.
"What happened to you Jinn?" said Ophelia, her eyes inspecting Jinn’s shoulder injury.
She then closed her eyes, focused on her breathing as the golden light from her hand began to grow even more brighter and powerful to the point that the surrounding area was wrapped with subtle and comforting warmth.
Yet Jinn flinched.
"Y-You don’t need to heal me Ophelia, I can handle this injury." said Jinn, his voice nervous.
Ophelia stared at Jinn, tilting her head, pausing for a brief moment—before placing her hand on the injury without hesitation.
*Sizzle!
Yet instead of healing, a resounding sizzle echoed in the air as soon as Ophelia’s hand—which was filled with her eidra—made contact with Jinn’s skin.
It looked like it burned, a slight smoke—no, mist—emanated from the wound, making Ophelia retract her hand quickly.
"That was supposed to heal..." Ophelia grasped her hand, before looking at Jinn—her brows furrowed, her expression tense and hard.
"You’re not Jinn." Ophelia said before snapping both of her hands forward and releasing a blinding golden light that flashed forward powerfully.
*BANG!!
*Shriek!!!
What was supposed to be Jinn, shrieked in pain as the golden light that Ophelia emitted—burned parts of its skin.
It then finally faded within the mist, like smoke in the air.
Then, without a pause, another shriek followed.
High pitched,
Visceral.
And then another one.
Two shrieks echoed from the distance as the mists around the group rippled and trembled at the roars.
Ophelia quickly ran towards the group as soon as she heard the roars.
Yet two massive serrated arms were already swinging their way towards Ophelia.
They were coming in fast.
A few inches towards Ophelia and she’ll be eviscerated.
Yet before they could hit her,
*SNAP!
a resounding snap of someone’s finger echoed in the air.
It was Orin.
As she snapped her finger, violet eidra began to slither their way towards Ophelia’s body and then completely swallowed her.
*whirr... *BANG!
With a loud whirring bang, a violet portal began to appear right next to Orin in which Ophelia popped right out, stumbling forward, hitting her knees on the ground.
Ophelia looked left, right, and finally towards Orin with a confused look in her face.
"You all right?" Orin gave Ophelia a hand, helping her stand up.
"That was amazing... thanks." Ophelia sighed in relief as she patted her knees.
Golden streaks of eidra then began to crack around her arm, filling the area with warmth as she looked towards the beast just appearing in front of them.
"Looks like we have a fight ahead of us."
"Damn right." Verhedyn’s eidra cracked and began to wrap his body completely with a cold aura—his eidra surging with power and ready to be used.
Orin cracked her neck side to side, as powerful violet eidra began to crack around her.
"Just like training." she spoke as multiple orbs of violet colored orbs began to float around her, pulsating with powerful energy.
"I just have the right thing for this situation!" Vox’s eyes lightened up.
Vox’s eidra was unfortunately not suitable for battle—yet it can still be used during it—well, technically.
His eidra was complicated, a technologically based eidra that made him sync his very essence towards machines that had eidra powering it—making it even more powerful.
And so, Vox grabbed something from within his pocket.
A small ball.
It pulsates in power even if it’s dormant.
Vox then pressed a button from the ball, activating it, making it crack with electricity and energy.
Closing his eyes, Vox focused his breathing, his heart, and his very essence.
Eidra began to wrap his body, bright blue, and began to touch the device itself.
The device pulsated even strongly, cracking with energy and electricity... until it had died down.
Vox dropped the ball to the ground as it is now useless.
Yet with a powerful bang, his body began to crackle with thunder as the essence of the device now dwell within him.
*Crack...! *BANG!!!
He has become the device itself.
A living weapon.
The two beasts then rushed towards the group with no hesitation, their long serrated arms stretched forward as they rushed towards them.
Yet the group was prepared for the clash, their eidra primed and ready.
