Chapter 110: Chapter 110 | Predator and Prey

"RAAGH!" Garan roared as he swooped down, twisting his body midair to dodge a powerful swipe from the dragon’s massive claws.

*SWOOP!!!

The beast’s strike tore through the air just inches from him, but Garan was already moving—his body low as he lunged forward with both arms wide.

*Crack!

With a thunderous crack, his claws sank deep into one of the dragon’s legs, tearing through its hardened black scales.

A gush of thick, black blood spilled out from the wound, spraying across the air as the beast let out a piercing screech.

The dragon flailed, its wings flapping violently as it tried to shake him off.

*Flap! *Flap! *Flap!

Its massive body lifted off the ground, flying upward at a steep angle.

The wind roared around Garan’s ears, and still, he held on tightly, claws digging in deeper, anchoring him in place.

The dragon soared high, climbing higher and higher into the sky, trying to reach a height that would make Garan lose grip.

Then, without warning, it turned and dove downward in a sharp angle, slicing through the air like a falling meteor.

*vwoooooOOOOOOOOM!!!

The wind pressure increased, and the beast twisted its body left and right in an attempt to throw Garan off.

But Garan only snarled, his teeth bared in a grin, eyes wide with excitement.

He wasn’t afraid.

If anything, he looked like he was enjoying it.

His thick arms flexed, muscles bulging under his fur-covered skin, veins popping as he tightened his grip even more.

His claws punctured deeper into the dragon’s flesh, causing more black blood to pour out.

The dragon howled in pain, but Garan didn’t let go.

The beast swooped low, barely avoiding the ground as it flew in sharp, erratic turns.

But Garan stayed latched on, his weight dragging on the beast slightly.

Dust kicked up beneath them as they skimmed the earth before the dragon finally slowed down, exhausted from the effort.

And yet, Garan was still there—clinging tightly, refusing to be thrown off.

Noticing the dragon had slowed down, Garan didn’t waste a second.

He tightened his grip, claws already buried deep, then pushed in even further, digging past the outer layers of thick, scale-covered flesh.

His muscles tensed, fangs bared in a savage grin as he let out a guttural snarl.

Then, with a violent snap of both hands and a powerful pull, Garan ripped a large chunk of flesh straight from the beast’s leg.

*Crack!

The wound tore open wide, black blood gushing out like a stream.

The dragon retorted in pain, its cry echoing across the sky, but even as it screamed, the wound slowly began to close.

It was healing.

But Garan wasn’t surprised.

He had seen this before.

Corrupted beasts didn’t die easy—not unless you destroyed what kept them alive.

Their hearts... or the core.

That cursed lump of eidra buried deep in their bodies, pumping out more corruption with every second.

Without prime eidra, or the blessings of the Seraphim, there was only one real way to take them down—find the core and destroy it completely.

And Garan was going to do just that.

With a low growl, he plunged his claws back into the dragon’s flesh, this time using it to pull himself up, launching himself higher along its leg.

His body moved fast, using momentum and strength alone as he climbed along the beast’s massive frame.

The wind rushed past him, the corrupted stench of blood strong in his nose.

Suddenly, the dragon twisted its neck and opened its maw.

A blast of greenish-black breath shot out, a wave of corrosive corrupted eidra surging right towards Garan.

But he was faster.

He launched himself sideways mid-climb, landing on one of the dragon’s wings with a hard thud.

His claws plunged through the thin membranes of the wing flap, anchoring him in place.

The flesh resisted at first, but Garan didn’t stop.

Using his body’s weight and raw strength, he let himself drop,

*RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!!!

claws tearing a long, deep gash across the wing as he dragged downward.

The membrane ripped like cloth.

Corrupted blood sprayed as the dragon let out another roar, the sound shaking the air.

When he reached the end of the wing, Garan planted his feet against the joint and kicked himself off, flipping in midair before slamming down hard on the dragon’s back.

His claws locked into its spine, holding him steady even as the beast thrashed wildly in pain.

Its left wing, now torn, hung limp, flapping uselessly.

The dragon’s body tried to roll midair, spinning to throw him off.

But by then, Garan had already moved again—rushing across its back with incredible speed, now targeting the right wing.

He was not letting this thing fly anymore.

"RAAGH!" Garan roared as he raised both of his arms high, then slammed them down with force, unleashing a flurry of lacerating eidra waves that shot straight toward the dragon’s remaining wing.

The attacks zipped through the air in a criss-crossed pattern, crackling with wild energy as they struck with blinding speed.

*BOOM! *BOOM! *BOOM!

Multiple bangs echoed through the sky as Garan’s strikes landed true.

The dragon’s right wing was torn into shreds, twisted flesh and bone scattering through the air.

*ROAR!!!

The beast let out a furious, pained scream—but its wings were gone now.

No more flying, no more running.

It was trapped.

With a solid thud, Garan landed right on the beast’s neck, claws digging into its flesh again as he steadied himself.

"Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!" he bellowed over and over, each word matched with a vicious swing of his arms.

*slash! *slash! *Slash! *Slash! *SLASH! *SLASH! *SLASH! *SLASH!

His claws slashed again and again, tearing through thick scales and muscle, hacking away with brutal force until blood sprayed from the gaping wounds.

*slash! *slash! *Slash! *Slash! *SLASH! *SLASH! *SLASH! *SLASH!

The flesh ripped apart under his rage until the dragon’s massive head tore free and fell to the ground with a heavy, wet thud.

But Garan didn’t stop.

He looked at the twitching, headless body, still flailing about despite the damage.

Its broken wings flapped uselessly, slowly healing—but Garan knew it wasn’t going to last.

The core.

That was the real target.

That was the source.

"Let’s finish this, prey," Garan snarled, his eyes glowing with wild energy.

He stomped down hard on the dragon’s chest, then plunged both of his arms deep into the scales,

*CRACK!!!

blood and tissue parting as his claws ripped through.

He tore the flesh open with a guttural roar, pulling it aside to reveal the insides of the corrupted beast.

There it was.

The heart.

Or rather, what remained of it.

It was no longer a normal organ—it had become something else, something darker.

The heart was black as the void, beating slow but heavy, leaking thick black blood while black mist spiraled around it like smoke.

The corrupted eidra pulsed with every beat, poisoning every part of the dragon’s body.

Garan didn’t hesitate.

He drove one hand into the core like a spear, claws piercing through it with ease.

*Shck!

Then he gripped tight and pulled, tearing the heart free from the dragon’s chest.

The instant it was removed, the beast let out one final, haunting roar—loud and full of agony

*ROAR!!!

before its body began to spasm violently.

Garan leapt back just in time.

The corrupted dragon exploded in a blast of dark eidra, shadows whipping across the area in a burst of corrupted power.

Black mist blanketed the battlefield for a moment, shrouding everything in darkness.

Then... silence.

The mist slowly faded away, drifting into the wind like ash.

"Pathetic," Garan muttered with a snort, flicking his wrists to shake off the black blood still smeared over his claws.

"It barely was even a challenge."

He stood tall now, breathing calmly as the dust settled around him.

"Now then," he said, looking around the quiet battlefield, "where should we go?"

As if in answer to his words, a soft glow shimmered in the distance.

A sharp, glistening light, humming with a subtle whirr.

Garan’s eyes narrowed as he turned toward it, his gaze locking onto the source.

A portal.

It looked exactly like the one he came from, swirling with energy and waiting—almost calling him.

"That must be the way up..." he muttered to himself. "The next floor."

Without another word, Garan cracked his neck, rolled his shoulders, and began walking toward the glowing portal, leaving behind the once battlefield he fought on.
