Chapter 109 | Wind and Thunder
Chapter 109: Chapter 109 | Wind and Thunder
The surrounding environment whirred like a gathering storm, loud and chaotic, as Venedix, along with Hector and Ophelia, emerged from the glowing portal.
The sight of the tower vanished behind them in an instant, replaced by a completely different landscape—one that felt twisted and distant, like a space between worlds.
The air was colder here, thicker.
The sky above swirled unnaturally, and the ground beneath their feet hummed with power that didn’t feel right.
Venedix narrowed her eyes, her gaze shifting slowly from left to right as she carefully observed their new surroundings.
"Mhm," she hummed under her breath, her voice soft but knowing—like she had already sensed what kind of place this was.
She took a step forward without hesitation, her coat fluttering behind her. Ophelia and Hector followed closely behind, their boots crunching against the brittle ground.
Suddenly, the wind shifted.
It turned harsh and sharp, gusting in their direction like blades carried by air.
Ophelia and Hector instinctively raised their arms, shielding their faces from the sudden assault of wind and pressure.
The gusts stung like needles, carrying faint traces of corrupted energy.
But Venedix didn’t flinch.
She continued walking forward, unblinking, untouched.
Crimson eidra began to pulse from her body, wrapping around her like a living barrier.
The energy shimmered faintly, deflecting the force of the wind completely as she moved with calm precision.
They pressed on, but the wind didn’t die down—it grew stronger, more violent, pushing from every direction.
The sound of howling surrounded them.
Then came the mist—thick, black, and swirling.
It moved with purpose, twisting through the air like it was alive. The mists curled inwards, reaching for them, aiming to surround and smother.
The corrupted energy within the mist lashed out, trying to infect, to cling to anything it could touch.
But Ophelia and Hector gritted their teeth and closed their eyes for a second.
They remembered Zendrell’s warning from earlier, and with focused breaths, they called their eidra from deep within.
The corruption hissed as it tried to latch onto them—but it failed.
The mists couldn’t break through the strength of their eidra within their bodies.
They stood firm, pushing through the haze as it hissed and coiled around them.
And through it all, Venedix walked forward in silence, the swirling crimson glow around her slicing through the darkness like a knife through cloth.
A few minutes passed, the air around them still howling like a trapped storm as the group finally arrived at what seemed to be the origin of the powerful winds.
The sky above twisted, clouds swirling faster, and the pressure grew heavier with each step forward.
Without a word, Venedix’s other hand reached and unsheathed her second blade.
Now, both of her swords gleamed with crimson eidra, glowing faintly in the dark like burning coals.
She tilted her head slightly, her stance shifting, prepared to fight.
And then they saw it.
What stood before them wasn’t just a woman—it barely looked like it anymore.
Multiple black wings jutted out from its back, flapping slowly with heavy power.
Twisted horns curled around its head, almost forming a dark crown of bone and shadow, covering most of its skull like armor.
"A corrupted Angel..." Venedix muttered with a frown, her voice low, tinged with something unreadable.
She turned her head slightly to glance back at Ophelia.
"You’ll prove useful against this one, child," she said firmly. "Prove me your worth."
Ophelia blinked, visibly shaken by Venedix’s words.
Her hands trembled for a second—but only for a second.
She took in a sharp breath and exhaled slowly, her fingers glowing faintly as she focused her eidra, the light forming at her palms.
Hector, standing beside her, unsheathed his sword.
The blade shimmered with green light, its glow cutting through the shadows.
Even Venedix, for a brief moment, shifted her gaze.
Her eyes widened—not from surprise, but recognition.
"That sword..." she started, but before she could finish, a violent shriek tore through the air.
*SHRIEK!!!
The corrupted Angel let out a deafening scream as all of its wings flared wide, flapping once with terrifying force, unleashing a massive gale that exploded toward them like a crashing wave of wind and pressure.
Venedix didn’t hesitate.
She inhaled sharply, her chest rising with power, and then exhaled with precision as she swung one of her crimson swords, unleashing a loud cracking wave of eidra that burst forward.
*BANG!!!
The wave struck the gale head-on, cutting through it like a blade through silk, its edges sparking with red energy as it surged toward the beast.
But the creature blinked—disappearing in a sudden blur—and reappeared to the side, dodging it effortlessly.
A second gale came right after, stronger than the first.
*VWOOM!!!
"Both of you, support me from the back lines," Venedix ordered, her voice sharp over the wind.
Then, without giving them time to answer, she bent her knees and launched forward like a bolt of lightning.
*CRACK!!!
The air cracked around her as she pierced through the incoming gale, her form blazing with crimson thunder as she dashed straight toward the beast midair.
"But how could we...?" Ophelia muttered, confused, unsure how they could even keep up.
Before she could finish her thought, the sky lit up again with a series of loud bangs, echoes of powerful blows crashing through the storm above.
Venedix had made contact with the corrupted angel, and in that storm of wind and light, crimson thunder clashed against darkened wings in a battle of pure force.
Venedix swung her sword multiple times in a flurry of movement—up above, down below, to the side—her strikes fast and precise, each slash sharp enough to split the air.
But the beast moved like liquid wind, its body twisting and flowing through the air with unnatural grace.
It dodged every single blow, almost dancing around her attacks, using its wind-type corrupted eidra to boost its movements, propelling itself into sudden bursts of incredible speed.
Then it countered.
With all of its wings flaring wide, the beast flapped them at once, sending a powerful gust straight at Venedix, hoping to knock her back, to make her lose balance midair.
But Venedix didn’t budge.
Her form remained steady, her speed never faltering, her eyes focused with sharp calmness.
Crimson eidra coiled around her like a current, holding her steady against the violent winds.
The beast’s face twisted, a flicker of frustration crossing its twisted features.
It realized something—it couldn’t shake her off.
*FLAP!!
With another strong flap from all its wings, the corrupted angel soared high into the sky, pushing past the clouds.
It wanted distance. It needed more space to unleash something bigger.
"Mhm," Venedix hummed lowly, her boots whirring as she stepped onto the air like it was solid ground.
Crimson sparks crackled at her heels as she launched herself upward, following right behind the beast’s trail.
Her figure blurred slightly, then vanished into the blackened clouds.
"How the hell can we even support her?" Hector called out, his eyes squinting to try and follow the battle above, but both figures had already disappeared into the dark sky.
"I don’t know!" Ophelia shouted back, her voice strained under the rushing wind.
"Just get ready—if something drops from up there, we gotta act!"
Around them, the air grew heavier.
The gusts of wind turned more violent, wild.
The trees in the distance bent, and the ground trembled lightly as the air itself felt like it was being pulled into the sky.
Above, the corrupted angel spiraled, its body twisting as it formed a cyclone of wind around itself.
The spiral grew larger by the second, pulling in clouds, dust, and corrupted eidra from the area.
The energy gathered quickly, swirling tightly around the beast’s form like a hurricane of power.
Then it screamed.
*SHRIEK!!!
The sound exploded out like thunder—loud, sharp, and almost deafening.
Ophelia and Hector both winced, throwing their hands to their ears as the screech pierced through them like needles.
But Venedix...
She didn’t even flinch.
She stood on the air itself, balanced on pure eidra, her arms at her sides and her eyes locked on the beast above.
The wind whipped at her clothes and hair, but her stance remained grounded—even in the sky.
A calm storm wrapped in crimson lightning, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
*SHRIEK!!
The beast screamed again, louder this time, its voice ripping through the sky as the winds suddenly stopped.
All of it.
Not even a breeze moved.
The stillness was eerie, like the world had paused to wait for what came next.
The corrupted angel’s body began to glow faintly, violet light pulsing from within its veins as if it was reaching the limit of its power.
Then it happened.
*BANG!
A sudden burst of energy exploded from its form, releasing a shockwave that cracked the air.
From that explosion, hundreds—at least a hundred—copies of the beast appeared in all directions, spreading across the sky like a swarm of winged shadows.
Each one flapped its wings in unison, filling the air with the sound of thunderous wind and chaos.
Ophelia stood frozen, eyes wide, unable to process how quickly the sky had been filled with enemies.
Her breath caught in her throat as she watched the corrupted copies dart and hover, their glowing eyes locking onto her and Hector.
But Venedix barely even blinked.
She tilted her head slightly, her glowing yellow eyes half-lidded with boredom, and her lips parted with calm words.
"Is that it?" she said flatly.
Then, finally, she raised both of her swords.
She had only been using one before—now both gleamed with crimson eidra, pulsing with power.
The air cracked as her aura surged.
Without a word more, Venedix launched upward, jumping higher and higher with each burst of force, her form zipping through the sky.
*Slash! *Slash! *Slash!
She crossed and re-crossed her path, becoming a blur of red light.
*Slash! *Slash! *Slash!
Every time she slashed, trails of cracking eidra were left behind like streaks of lightning cutting through the sky.
*Slash! *Slash! *Slash!
The clones didn’t even have time to react. One by one, they burst apart as her blades struck them, shattered by the sheer speed and precision of her strikes.
*Slash! *Slash! *Slash! *SLASH! *SLASH! *SLASH!
It was a spectacle—Ophelia’s mouth hung slightly open while Hector stared in awe, the wind pushing at their clothes as the sky turned into a storm of red flashes.
Then, a final sound—a
*BOOM!
that cracked through the clouds like thunder—as Venedix appeared above the main beast and brought both her swords down in a devastating slash.
One of the beast’s wings tore open, blood and corrupted energy spewing as the creature screamed and began to fall from the sky.
The wounded form of the corrupted angel came spiraling down, its body now visible from the ground as it neared the dirt.
"I guess this is our moment!" Hector shouted, snapping out of his daze.
He stabbed his sword into the ground and called forth his power.
Thick, wooden tendrils burst from the soil like serpents, rushing toward the falling beast before slithering up and wrapping tightly around one of its legs, holding it down.
Ophelia followed quickly.
She raised her hand, and thin but precise beams of light shot out, piercing into the creature’s chest and shoulders.
The light burned from the inside, causing the corrupted angel to writhe and shriek in agony as smoke poured from the open wounds.
Then, the sky rumbled.
*Crack!
A sudden thunderclap roared from above as Venedix returned, descending like a meteor.
Her twin swords glowed hot with energy as she dropped faster and faster, the air around her forming a cone of compressed power.
With a loud, echoing bang, she slammed both blades into the beast’s chest, dragging it down violently to the earth.
*BOOM!
The impact kicked up a cloud of dirt and dust, the ground cracking beneath the weight of the blow.
The corrupted mist that surrounded the field was instantly blown away, scattered like torn cloth by the force of the strike.
As the cloud cleared, the beast was nowhere to be seen.
It had been completely disintegrated.
Venedix stood tall in the center of the crater, her swords still buried deep in the cracked earth.
Her body was untouched, unshaken.
"Mhm," she hummed softly, her gaze slowly shifting to Ophelia and Hector.
She looked at them for a moment, her expression unreadable—calm, cold, but clearly assessing them.
Both stood silent, breathing hard, waiting for her to speak.
But Venedix didn’t say anything at first.
She just turned around and began walking forward, her voice trailing behind her.
"Come. The next portal shall be open now that its warden has been slayed."
Without delay, both Ophelia and Hector followed, still shaken but unable to argue.
Their minds were racing, not just from the battle, but from the sight of what Venedix could do.
What they had just seen was incredible.
But they didn’t realize yet—this wasn’t even close to the full extent of her power.
It was just a glimpse.
A speckle.
