Chapter 66: This is my date

Gold Stone was a five-star hotel, but Dongwoo didn’t know about it since he hadn’t heard of it before. So the moment he got out of the cab and beheld the magnificent building, his jaw dropped, and he heard his wallet saying its last prayers.

"If I pay for the meal at this place, I think I’ll be overpaying my debt." He thought but still went in anyway.

At the front was a waiter standing next to a slim podium that was as high as his chest level.

"Hello, do you have a reservation?" The waiter asked, and Dongwoo looked at the text Geumtae sent after the address, but he didn’t understand how he was going to tell the waiter that, so he excused himself.

"Um, excuse me for a moment. I need to call someone." He said, smiling awkwardly.

He walked away from the entrance a bit and called Geumtae.

"Sweetie, are you here yet?" Geumtae asked in his usual cheerful tone.

"I am but..." He looked over his shoulder to spy on the entrance and whispered. "... I can’t understand your text."

"Oh? Then wait there. I’ll come to you." Geumtae said.

"Alright but please, hurry up. I feel so uncomfortable standing in front of this expensive place by myself." Dongwoo said.

"Yes, yes. You can turn around now. I’m right behind you."

"Right behind..." Dongwoo turned around and immediately spotted Geumtae waving at him with his phone to his ear.

He looked at the waiter at the podium and said,

"This is my date, the one I made the reservation with." He said and the waiter nodded.

"Date?" Dongwoo’s eyebrows shifted.

"Come on, sweetie. Let’s go in." Geumtae enthusiastically grabbed his hand and pulled him in while Dongwoo was still trying to understand what was going on.

Why did he call him his ’date’?

"Come, sweetie. The food here is very good. Your mouth will water as soon as you see the menu." He said, and Dongwoo sat down across him while staring at his surroundings.

It was a five-star restaurant, alright. Inside was so classy, even more classy than the one in Italy.

Ah, it just dawned on him that he was the one paying for the food. Thank goodness it was almost the end of the month; if not, he would’ve had to empty his pocket and starve afterward.

’Next time, I won’t make blind promises.’ he thought to himself.

"What are you spacing out for, sweetie?" Geumtae asked. "Go ahead and order."

Dongwoo saw that there was already a waiter waiting to take his order, so he hastily picked up the menu, but he didn’t even know what he was staring at.

The names were all twisted.

Seeing this, Geumtae decided to help him out.

"Are you a picky eater?" He asked and Dongwoo raised his head. Though he was still a bit flustered and overwhelmed by the culinary, he shook his head and said,

"No,"

"Great. He’ll just have what I’m having." He said, taking the menu from him. The waiter nodded while writing it down, before taking the menus to leave. "Everything tastes nice so I’m sure you’ll like it no matter what it is."

"Um, Geumtae," Dongwoo called, "Earlier, why did you say I was your date?"

Geumtae paused for a moment but then smiled and said,

"What do you call two people going to have dinner together in a fancy restaurant?" He said. "It’s a date, isn’t it?"

The sound of it made Dongwoo uncomfortable. Was that what this was? He thought it was him repaying him for all he had done.

"Haha, it’s a joke." Geumtae said and laughed lightly. "You should’ve seen yourself in the mirror, sweetie. You were mortified." He said and his expression fell into a sad one. "Ah, does the idea of you going on a date with me scare you that much? It kinda hurts."

"Oh, it’s not that. I... I was just surprised and..." Dongwoo felt flustered again. "I didn’t take you for a gay person either, so..."

"Oh? Can’t you tell?" Geumtae asked with a little wink and Dongwoo blinked, twice in surprise.

"Wait, for real? You’re gay?" He asked in a little whisper, scared that the others at other tables would hear, and Geumtae chuckled.

"Come on, it’s not that hard to figure out, sweetie." He said.

Dongwoo was surprised. He never thought he would meet someone who was actually not ashamed or scared of admitting he was gay. They all wanted to hide it so as not to look like the weird one or get pointed at as being faggots. Even he wouldn’t admit his sexual orientation like that.

What was Geumtae doing, spilling out such a huge secret to him?

"The truth is," Geumtae looked aside. "...the reason I called you my date is that the person who was originally supposed to be on this date with me stood me up." He said, and that was yet another shocker.

Who in their right mind would stand up such a handsome guy? Geumtae was the kind of man everyone, including gay guys, would want to date.

But don’t get it wrong, Dongwoo had little to no interest in him and would never consider him over the twins. But if he wanted to go for a second option, Geumtae was definitely it.

"I didn’t want to eat alone so I texted you." Geumtae explained and started twirling his fingers, feeling guilty. "I’m sorry if I made you a stand-in without your consent. I just didn’t want to eat alone."

"Then, am I the one paying for the food?" Dongwoo asked and Geumtae raised his head.

"No, of course not. I’m footing the bill all by myself." He said and smiled awkwardly for the first time. "All that talk of you paying back your continuously rising debt was just a joke. And if you ever take it seriously, take this as you paying me back." He blushed. "I... I don’t want to eat alone." Hearing this, Dongwoo felt wholesome.

Ah, the sound of his wallet jubilating was like music to his ears. He didn’t care for anything else.

"Ah, that’s okay." He said. "You can use me as a stand-in; I don’t mind. It’s good to eat with friends from time to time."

"Friends?"
