Chapter 332: I promised to take Eunwoo to dinner
Dongwoo and Eunwoo made their way to Geumtae’s clinic. He stretched his hand to open the door, but it suddenly opened and Geumtae, surprised, blinked his eyes.
"Dongwoo?" He called, his eyes lighting in excitement, but as his eyes traveled to the person behind Dongwoo, his excited expression slowly faded, and he let out a not-so-friendly, "Oh!" His tone of disappointment tugged at Eunwoos heart, but he tried not to let it show.
It didn’t look like Geumtae would be fond of him any time soon.
He pursed his lips and watched Geumtae fold his arms. He leaned on the door and asked, "What dragged you here?" He asked.
"Geumtae," Dongwoo called, feeling that was quite a rude statement but Geumtae simply looked away from Eunwoo, and his expression lifted immediately, showing his preferential treatment.
"Did you come to see me, sweetie? It’s been a while, I’ve really missed you." He wrapped his arms around Dongwoo and snuggled his face in his affectionately.
"Yes, yes, I’ve missed you too. Now, yet off." He pushed his face away. "But I didn’t come for just you."
"Oh, it’s Lily, right? Don’t worry about anything. She’s in good hands and growing healthy. I, Geumtae the Great, am the one taking care of her, after all, huhu." He raised his head in pride.
But when Dongwoo saw Lily, he felt Lily was becoming... What was the word? Ah, yes, too healthy.
She was fatter than the last time he carried her. And that was no more than a month ago.
How was she growing so furry and bloated every time he saw her?
"Meow," Lily purred, licking her leg.
"What are you feeding her?" Dongwoo asked, looking at his cat strangely.
"Only the best." Geumtae said, carrying her up.
"Is this alright?" Dongwoo asked. He was worried. If she was too bloated, would she be able to carry herself?
Though, when she walked just now, she didn’t look like she had a problem. Yet... He couldn’t help but worry.
This was like one of those holidays where the parents would take their kids to their grandparents and then in the span of one week, they could return with an extra 6 pounds.
Dongwoo shook his head.
"Well, you’re the doctor, so I’m sure you know what you’re doing. But please, don’t make things too hard for her with your unconditional care." Dongwoo said with a little more emphasis on ’care’.
"Don’t worry. This isn’t my first rodeo." He snickered, and Dongwoo nodded before sighing.
He was in shock, honestly.
"Okay, that’s that. Would you like to come have dinner with me?" Dongwoo asked, causing Geumtae to beam with excitement. "After all the ’unconditional care’ you’ve been giving Lily, I should thank you with a meal at least, don’t you think?"
He sounded genuine, and though he really was genuine about it, he had his motives for letting Eunwoo and Geumtae talk.
So, if they were at a table together and he suddenly had to leave because ’something came up,’ they would be left alone and have to talk to each other.
"Oh my, my sweetie is always so considerate." Geumtae said. "I would love to. You know I’d never pass on an offer like that. But..." He lifted his gaze to Eunwoo, who flinched upon contact. "...is he going with us?"
"Oh, uh," he brushed the back of his neck. "... I promised to take Eunwoo to dinner and then the idea hit me. It’s the only chance I have, so I just want to take you out too." He said, but Geumtae had this expression that asked, ’Why, of all people, did it have to be him?’
Yes, their history ran short, but the mere thought of Eunwoo declaring him as his soul mate, destined partner, or whatnot already made him feel uncomfortable around him.
Then, Dongwoo leaned closer to whisper, "Plus, you know how the twins tend to get jealous. If they knew I had dinner with you alone, it would feel... You know,"
Geumtae knew exactly what he meant, but it actually got him excited, and he smirked. He bent his head and said,
"They’ll never know." He looked like a cunning fox saying that. "Besides, if you don’t tell them and I don’t tell them either, how are they going to find out?"
Dongwoo cleared his throat, darting his eyes away. He knew the twins had rats in every corner.
He didn’t even want to know the details of how these ’rats’ came about, but as long as it assured them and allowed them to do whatever they wanted, then it was fine by him.
It was almost like they were spying on his moves but who was he to complain, right? He literally gave the idea of putting a tracker on his phone for them to know his movements- that was before he knew about the rats though- Anyway, he did not feel uncomfortable with it in the slightest.
After all, he had nothing to hide.
Geumtae somehow understood Dongwoo’s awkward throat clearing and his mouth gapped in shock.
"Wait, are they spying on you?" He asked but Dongwoo shook his head, waving it off.
"Oh no, it’s nothing like that. But... They will know."
And that was how he was able to convince Geumtae to let Eunwoo tag along. However, he did look swollen about it.
"Come on, it’s not like I was inviting you for a date in the first place." Dongwoo said, nudging him in the stomach with his elbow.
Geumtae folded his arms and mumbled under his dissatisfied breath,
"Of course, you weren’t. But I would very much like it to be so." He pouted.
"What was that?" Dongwoo asked but he sighed, refusing to repeat his words to his hearing. "Don’t sulk like that. Anyone who sees you will think I’m forcing you to have dinner with me." He stopped walking. "If that’s the case then should I reschedule?"
He asked but secretly hoped Geumtae would not ask to reschedule.
"I don’t know when I’ll be free next, so we can just call it a day for today and meet another day. Is that okay?"
Geumtae went silent.
The sky was growing darker and darker and the gentle breeze that blew on this night was cool and soothing.
"I don’t want that." Geumtae said and brushed his hair back. "I’ll just be the one on the losing end because I don’t know when next you’ll be free." He looked aside, his gaze traveling to Eunwoo, who would remain silent despite what was being said in front of him.
He closed his eyes and sighed.
"Let’s just go, sweetie." He took Dongwoo’s hand. "I won’t complain, so let’s just go."
Dongwoo looked at Geumtae’s hand on his and then glanced back at Eunwoo, hoping he wouldn’t misunderstand or feel bad.
This was making him feel everything was going the wrong way but if he took his hand back, what would Geumtae think?
"Okay, let’s go." He said and Eunwoo sighed.
He walked from behind, watching them walk like that and his heart thumped.
He couldn’t say he was comfortable with it, but he knew it was a misunderstanding. Dongwoo and Geumtae weren’t in that kind of relationship, and though Geumtae may like Dongwoo, Dongwoo would never like him back, so he still had a shot.
And Dongwoo was going this far to carry him along so he could help him. He shouldn’t misunderstand. He couldn’t misunderstand.
They got to the restaurant. It was quite fancy but not as fancy as those Five-star restaurants.
"Sweetie, are you still trying to hold back your pocket?" Geumtae asked and Dongwoo hid his face. How could he say that?
He just didn’t want to take them to an extravagant place and make Eunwoo feel uncomfortable.
When someone uses the term, ’trying to hold back your pocket,’ it means they were spending quite inferiorly to the fortune they possessed.
"Mr Big Shot photographer should take us to a much nicer place." He said which only got Dongwoo more embarrassed.
"Don’t call me that. You’re making it seem like I’m a big deal." He said but Geumtae laughed.
"But you are." He said and rested his chin on his palm, looking at Dongwoo with those eyes that could see through anyone. "You just don’t know it yet." He laughed.
"Ahem, let’s just order." He said after clearing his throat. He turned to Eunwoo. "What would you like to get? You can order anything, I told you I’d pay."
"Thanks, Boss." He said. That was the most he had said since they met with Geumtae. In fact, it was the only thing he had said.
His eyes scanned through the menu and then lifted his eyes to spy on Geumtae who looked focussed while carefully picking out his dishes.
He looked like he had too many options to choose from, so he needed to focus, like it was a war of wits.
He looked handsome even when in serious contemplation of what he was going to eat.
Eunwoo watched him swipe the strands of his long white hair behind his ear, so he could focus more properly and maybe not let a few strands fall on the food that would arrive soon.
Every action of his, though little, Eunwoo could not help but pick them out.
Geumtae looked so... out of reach too.
He shut his eyes, pursing his lips, and wondered, Was this a mistake after all?
