Chapter 312: I was working
"What? What did you say?" Minwoo asked, looking horridly at Dongwoo. "Hyung, you... You don’t mean it, do you?"
Dongwoo darted his eyes away. He kind of expected this reaction but it was stronger than he thought.
He decided to meet his parents and talk things out with them.
"Hyung, you can’t be serious."
"But I am." Dongwoo said. "If I leave things as they are, they will never get settled."
"And do you think they will be settled just because you choose to talk it out?" Minwoo grabbed his shoulders. "Hyung, they are not good people. They will go to any lengths. ANY lengths, just to make sure they get what they want, even if they have to break your mind and reset it in the format that they approve of."
Dongwoo looked into Minwoo’s eyes. There was so much fear.
"All the more reason why I need to speak with them first. Before they have any excuse to do whatever they want, I need to make it clear that I will not agree to be their puppet or trophy. And if they still don’t back down, I’ll have every right to invite the law. I’m not like you, Minwoo. I didn’t grow up with them and they’re not the parents who raised me, so they basically have no right over me."
Minwoo bit his lips, worried. That was true but they... They couldn’t be too sure.
Dongwoo dropped Minwoo’s hand and caressed his face.
"It’s going to be fine, don’t worry."
(I wish it was. Seriously, those people are demons. But they won’t even try to do anything till a later time. So, let’s count on that.)
Sungho walked into the office, and seeing them both, he said,
"Hey, good morning."
They both turned to him.
"Oh, hi Sungho." Dongwoo responded but Minwoo could only bow his head and look the other way in guilt.
"So, I was passing by and the director seemed to be looking for his co-photographer, so..."
"Haha, I get it. I’ll go now." Dongwoo smiled at Minwoo and said,
"It’s all going to work out. Don’t worry." He walked away and Minwoo muttered,
"I hope so."
Dongwoo was almost out the door when Minwoo remembered something,
"Oh, wait a minute, I have something else to say." He walked past Sungho without saying anything to him and walked out with Dongwoo.
He was basically doing it to avoid staying alone with Sungho, but he also did have something to say.
"What is it?" Dongwoo asked but noticed Minwoo’s awkward hair and asked, "Or did you just come out to avoid Sungho?"
Minwoo flinched. How did he know that? He was sure he was acting as naturally as he did daily.
"We’re twins, I know when you’re being awkward. It’s basically the same thing I would do." Dongwoo pointed out and asked, "Did you two fight?"
"Of... Of course not." Minwoo answered,
"Then, can I ask what you were really doing awake? It didn’t look like you were busy with Sungho. It was more like..."
"I was working." Minwoo said. "And I wasn’t at Sungho’s place either. But don’t worry. It’s all good." He rubbed his neck, where he had been bitten. He wore a turtle neck so the band-aid he placed on that visible bite mark could not be seen.
He was anxious and Dongwoo could feel it.
"So anyway, I called the therapist." Minwoo said. "Luckily, he isn’t busy. So we’re scheduled to visit this evening."
"Wow, already?" Dongwoo asked and smiled. "I don’t know why but I’m sorta excited about this."
"I hope you don’t regret saying that later." Minwoo muttered and smiled awkwardly.
"Boss," Jaeho called and Dongwoo turned to him. "The director’s searching for you. Like, he’s literally searching. You’re out of sight."
Hearing that, Dongwoo laughed.
"Yes, yes. I’m on my way there now." He said and waved at Minwoo. "Don’t be too hard on yourself, okay?"
Minwoo waved and nodded. But once Dongwoo had turned his back, his face fell, he hit his lips and slowly lowered his waving hand.
"Minwoo?" Sungho called and Minwoo turned with a sudden jolt.
He looked at Sungho, staring sadly at him.
"Are you... Mad at me by chance?" He asked, and Minwoo shook his head, waving his head frantically as he tried to explain to avoid creating a misunderstanding.
"No, no. Nothing like that. Why would I be mad at you?" He asked and then looked away, still feeling guilty of his actions. But he didn’t want Sungho to know anything about it. "I... I just had a lot on my mind."
Sungho caught his hand and then placed it on his chest.
"Minwoo," he called and Minwoo focused his gaze on his chest.
Sungho’s heart was beating oddly loudly.
"What’s the matter?"
"I don’t know." Sungho said. "But I just have a feeling that you’re keeping something from me." Minwoo jolted. "I know it’s not my place to pry but if it’s something dangerous, I can’t help but worry about you."
"You’re right. It’s not your place to pry." Minwoo said and took his hand back before anyone would pass that area and see them like that. "I’m fine, Sungho. Like I said, I just have a lot on my mind."
Sungho still looked sadly at him. Why did it feel like Minwoo was trying to create a distance between them? Had he just been the one delusional, thinking they could be something else? Something more?
He stared at his hand, clenched it, and tucked it inside his coat pocket.
"If you say so." He forced out a smile. "Then, I won’t bother you anymore. I’m going out for a shoot. I’ll... See you later?" He sounded unsure, not knowing if Minwoo would still come over to him later.
And to his disappointment, Minwoo shook his head and said,
"I’m sorry. I can’t."
Sungho felt his heart ripping. This was a sign that Minwoo was trying to avoid him, wasn’t it?
Feeling Sungho would misunderstand, Minwoo decided to state his reason.
"I won’t go back with you ’cause I’m going to visit a therapist with Dongwoo." He said, and Sungho raised his head.
He watched Minwoo nervously brush his arm while looking down.
"You’re... Going to therapy?"
