Chapter 173: Yeah, I guess it’s a horrible joke

The after party, after the fashion show, let the models interact with all the famous hands behind the brands they wore.

And in a gathering like this, most people surrounded the twins. Sungho wasn’t left out either. He was also a famous model with great visuals.

He usually acted cold when he was with people he wasn’t familiar with but in front of investors, he became like soft flower petals, responding softly and politely.

Dongwoo noticed he was pretty fluent in English and spoke a bit of French when necessary. Well, why wouldn’t he? It wasn’t like he was a newbie.

Minwoo, sticking rather closely with the twins and working perfectly as their manager, was also fluent in English and French. Well, you couldn’t expect anything less from the likes of him. He was a freaking secretary before becoming their manager.

Even Taiha was busy attending to people.

Eunwoo stuck close to Dongwoo because he couldn’t understand anything they were saying. He sucked at English, and the only things he understood in French were ’Bonjour’ and ’wee’, meaning ’Good morning’ and ’yes’.

With that little knowledge, he couldn’t stay on his own so he decided to stick close to Dongwoo.

Well, Dongwoo found it more comfortable to stay around Eunwoo than her crowded by strangers.

"So, that bruise on the manager’s cheek," Dooshik suddenly said as he popped out of nowhere with a cheeky grin.

"What about it?"

"If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve guessed it to be done by one of the crew to help differentiate between you two properly." He said and laughed. Eunwoo laughed as well but Dongwoo did not find it funny.

"That’s a bad joke." He said and turned away.

That bruise was definitely caused by someone who didn’t have Minwoo’s well being in mind. For it to still be there after a day of applying ice, it must’ve hurt a lot.

’Just what did you do to get beaten up like that.’ Dongwoo thought and snapped out of it once he realized he was thinking about Minwoo again.

Anything that had to do with Minwoo wasn’t his business yet he couldn’t stop caring about him.

"Yeah, I guess it’s a horrible joke." Dooshik said, feeling guilty.

No one knew the relationship between Dongwoo and Minwoo and neither of them would say a thing about it. But for the fact that they were both bearing the same last name and Minwoo had originally introduced himself as ’Lee Dongwoo’, they were sure there was a connection somewhere.

"Boss, would you like to get something to eat in the meantime?" Eunwoo asked, and Dongwoo nodded.

All that energy that was used up needed to be replenished somehow.

The twins, fed up with the endless number of people approaching them, looked away for a moment, hoping to see Dongwoo mixed in the crowd.

But they couldn’t find him and it made them irritated.

’How long do I have to do this for?’ Seojin thought.

’I didn’t come here to impress you, pretentious bastards.’ Seojun thought. ’I want to see Hyung.’

Since they were having the after-party outdoors, there was a pool. The pool had beautiful blue lighting and reflected beautifully.

That area of the party was a bit empty since a lot of people were busy making connections in groups. Dongwoo wanted to be alone so he came to this side of the party.

Dongwoo stared at the pool. He has never really been a fan of water or the sea, rather. The thought of going near scared him.

He couldn’t tell if it was because of the situation he passed through before his grandma found him or if it was just a few he grew after knowing that his grandma’s husband died at sea.

’It’s a dangerous place.’ she once said. ’And I fear to go close to it because it just might drag me in and swallow me up. It will take me to the place it took my husband.’

’But, isn’t that a good thing?’ Little Dongwoo had asked and his grandma looked at him softly, brushing his hair back.

’It would have if I had I had nothing to live for. But now, I have you, Dong-dong. If I let the water swallow me and take me to where it took my husband, I will have to leave you too. Do you want me to leave you alone?’

Dongwoo shook his head and hugged her.

’No. Stay with me. Don’t let the water take you.’

His grandma chuckled and brushed his hair.

’Don’t worry; I won’t let it take me. So, don’t go too close to it so it doesn’t take you as well.’

Dongwoo stared at his reflection in the pool. There was a distant memory that he couldn’t unlock and staring at the pool gave him headaches.

He closed his eyes, trying to recall what was hidden, but all he could remember was a familiar yet unfamiliar name, and he let it out of his lips.

"Owen." He muttered but he couldn’t remember who that was. "Who... Who is Owen?"

"What did you say?" He heard Minwoo’s voice and turned startled. "You... Do you remember after all?"

"What are you talking about?" Dongwoo asked him.

Minwoo went silent. He stared at him, wondering if he was trying to hide the fact that he knew who he was.

And it looked like he didn’t. He looked confused.

Minwoo stared at the pool behind him and then back at him.

What had he been staring at?

"Owen," he said, "...was our butler."

Dongwoo went silent. Their butler? As in, Dongwoo and Minwoo’s butler? But why use the word ’was’? Did he get fired?

"And the fact that you just called out that name, the last person you interacted with before falling off that cliff," he clenched his fists, trying to stay calm, "It means that I was right."

"It could also be a coincidence." Dongwoo said and they both fell silent. "I might’ve known someone named Owen, did you consider that?"

"But..."

Dongwoo shook his head.

"Don’t try to link everything about me to your brother in the past." He said and turned, intending to continue staring at the pool but he hadn’t realized he had gotten to the extreme end after being startled by Minwoo’s sudden appearance.

The edge of the pool was slippery and that gave him a one way ticket to his fall.

’Oh, crap.’

Seeing this, Minwoo immediately stretched out his hand and caught his arm.

"Caught you." He said, but just when he tried to pull Dongwoo up, he also slipped and they both fell into the pool.

"Oh no, someone fell into the pool!" Someone announced.

People watched to see if they would come out on their own but they didn’t. While one of them struggled to stay afloat, the other sunk deep with no strength to struggle.

’I...I can’t.’ Minwoo thought. ’I can’t hold on much longer.’

He couldn’t swim, and neither could Dongwoo, so neither could save the other.

"H-help!" He yelled and was about to sink in when Sungho grabbed his hand and pulled him out in an instant.

Who knew he had such strength?

"Are you okay?" Sungho asked but he shook his head as he coughed out the water he had taken in during his struggle.

Then looked up. Dongwoo wasn’t out yet.

"Where... Where’s Dongwoo?" He asked in horror. "Is he... still in there?" And just then, someone dove into the pool and brought Dongwoo out right away. That someone was none other than Seojun.
