Chapter 133: And what exactly were they consoling him about?
Dongwoo’s response was rather shocking but it was understandable. All of a sudden, he was the son of a rich family? Was that a joke? He had a twin? Could someone tell him something more believable because it was utterly preposterous?
He spent his whole life alone. They couldn’t just walk into his life and say... Sigh.
"So, Sunbae-nim." Dongwoo got up, acting completely ’normal’. "There were some files we needed to look at, right? Maybe we can look through the endorsements with the twins. Better now than ever, right?"
"W-wait, hold on." The other Dongwoo called, as he got up as well. "I... I’m telling the truth." He said in a desperate plea.
"I never said you were lying." Dongwoo said, staring plainly at him. "I just believe you’ve made a mistake, that’s all."
"But..."
"Oh and, do you have another name we can call you by? It’ll be a little confusing if there’s two of us bearing the same name, so..."
"T-then, I’ll go by Minwoo, for now." He said, looking rather awkward. He glanced at Taiha, who didn’t say anything, and back to Dongwoo. "Call me Minwoo."
(Even if his name is Dongwoo, we’ll refer to him as Minwoo from now on to avoid the confusion. And don’t worry, reveal everything including how Dongwoo got to bear Dongwoo)
Dongwoo nodded at him and said,
"Alright, Minwoo. Glad to have you on this team."
Taiha looked at Dongwoo, wondering if he was okay. Though he wasn’t saying anything, his actions were rather bizarre and stiff.
He could see he was a bit distracted by the news. Well, who wouldn’t be?
"Then, I... I’ll go get the twins first." Dongwoo said. "We need to... We need to look over the documents and..." His eyes wandered and he paused his lips, looking a little absentminded or rather... Lost. "I’ll just go."
Dongwoo had handled a lot of things in life. Maybe he didn’t handle them very well and messed up a lot, but he’s passed through it all, so he knew just how to get himself out of the situations, but this... This was a new one. An entirely new one that was knocking his head out of place and making him think backward.
He couldn’t handle it but he didn’t want to let it show that he was affected either.
He was distressed and confused. His heart, as well as his head, were in a battle of wits, trying to comprehend what he just heard and how exactly to react to it in the long run.
He wanted to act like everything was fine and that he wasn’t affected by what Minwoo said in the slightest.
He wanted to... Keep living his life as it was.
He already found happiness with this new job and... With the twins, he didn’t need anything else.
Dongwoo opened the door, only to pause as he found half of the crew members trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.
But it seemed they weren’t able to hear since they didn’t know when they were done and that he was going to open the door.
As soon as they saw Dongwoo, they immediately started acting like they were just passing by and even having sudden conversations ’in front of his office’. Who were they trying to fool?
Well, anyone would be curious.
"So," Dongwoo said, catching their attention. "...have you guys picked out the place we’re having the BBQ tonight?"
They all stared at him weirdly.
Ah, it was so obvious.
Dongwoo was trying hard to act normal but in doing so, in speaking out and asking such a question, he was acting out of the normal.
On a normal day, Dongwoo would simply wait to be asked because he always felt awkward starting conversations with them, and would only respond to their excited chatter meekly.
But right at that moment, he was loudly speaking out. Something he would never do on a normal day.
He made it seem so obvious that he was not okay and it made them worry for him. But how could they console him without actually consoling him?
And what exactly were they consoling him about? It was as if something horribly wrong had gone wrong with him but they didn’t know what it was. They didn’t know how Minwoo influenced his life.
They had only worked together for a few weeks, but during those weeks, they had seen the kind Dongwoo be awkward, silent, shy, smile, blush at a compliment, and determined to take a great shot, but... They had never really seen him sad or tried to hide sadness through a fake smile.
It was so obvious that it made them sad for him as well.
It was sad to watch.
"Aish, you lots are lost." Taiha said, walking out of the office. "Say, kiddo, how about the place we went to last time?" He asked.
Dongwoo looked up at him. He was always the one trying to lift the atmosphere.
"Well, that... I... I guess it’s okay." He answered in his usual bashful self, his cheeks slightly flushing as he remembered how much he drank during the last time.
"Oh, Sunbae, can we go to karaoke as well?" Yaeran asked Taiha.
"With this many people? What? Are you planning to rent the whole place? If your pockets are loaded, we can do that for sure." Taiha asked and everyone laughed, shying away from the idea. "Dongwoo is the star of the show so he gets to decide. And since he’s okay with that last place, that’s where we’re going, alone."
Yaeran sighed.
"Come on, give it up." Jiwoo said, elbowing her. "You just want to get to show your skills, hehe. So, who’s the boy?" She asked with a sneaky grin and Yaeran’s head exploded in embarrassment.
She turned red.
"Hey, watch your mouth. You’ll make people misunderstand."
"Is there a celebration?" Minwoo asked and everyone turned to him.
They fell silent and anyone passing by could see that they were making him out to be the vibe-killer. But Dongwoo didn’t want to make him feel left out.
Even if he wasn’t going to accept his words that he was his long-lost twin, he could at least help him adapt to the crew. Being an outcast was a horrible feeling.
He could tell because he was always one.
"Yes, there is." He answered and asked, "Do... Do you want to join us?"
This made Minwoo excited and he nodded.
"Yes, please. I’ll take this opportunity to get to know you- I mean, get to know the team better." He said and Dongwoo nodded. "After all, we’ll all be working together from now on. So please," he bowed his head down to a 90-degree angle and then raised it, smiling confidently. "I hope to get along with all of you."
"So, when do we leave, Boss?" Dooshik asked, looking excited.
No one responded to Minwoo, and though it wasn’t what Dongwoo wanted, he couldn’t exactly control their minds. Plus, he didn’t want to be there anymore.
He wanted to be alone.
"Don’t try to slack off just because we’re having a party. As of tomorrow, shooting starts, and you guys have to..."
While they were talking, Dongwoo decided to leave and he headed for the restroom.
