Chapter 129: You look just like a pushover

Taiha explained that the twins needed to start signing contracts with different brands and take in as many endorsements as they could while they were still fresh on sales.

It would also mean they would get extremely busy but it was inevitable. And that was why they needed an effective manager right away to deal with all that.

"When can they start checking through the endorsement contracts?" I asked.

"Oh, right away. Their manager is also on their way so they’ll be bringing it along with them." He explained and I nodded.

Ah, their manager. I wondered who they were and how they looked. If it was a she or a he. I truly hoped it was a good-natured person, though. Someone with good communication skills and could keep up with the workload.

"Ah, that reminds me." Taiha said, scratching the back of his neck with his pen. "You’re getting an assistant."

"What?!" I exclaimed, shocked.

"It shouldn’t surprise you that much, right? I also have an assistant." He said.

"B-but, do I... Do I really need an assistant?" I asked.

"Of course you do. You’re growing into a big shot and you’ll need someone to manage stuff for you while you’re busy." He said but I was skeptical about it.

Things were moving in a rather fast direction. Too fast, in fact.

Was it because this was Wailers? I knew photographers had assistants but for me... I never imagined it.

"Ah, if you’re worried about their pay, don’t worry. The company’s got it covered." He said and I furrowed my eyebrows. Something didn’t feel quite right.

The treatment was too nice for me. It was getting a bit too much, and I started feeling strings were being pulled in the background, but... I didn’t know anyone who could pull such strings.

’I feel like this because it’s all too good to be true.’ I thought and clenched my fists. "Then, am I going to pick my assistant myself?"

"Well, there’ll be a list of candidates. They’ll be filtered and sent to you by email." I nodded. "They don’t know who they’re working for but they’re all applying to be a photographer’s assistant." He explained.

Ah, that reminded me of times when I went around applying as an assistant to different studios. Those days were gruesome.

I didn’t want anyone to experience what I experienced so I vowed to be responsible and not use them as messengers.

"Kiddo, I’m just saying this because I feel you’re going to let your assistant trample you. You look just like a pushover." Taiha suddenly said and I tilted my head, confused.

"What? What do you mean?"

"An assistant’s job is to help out and reduce any form of inconvenience you may have when working. Yes, a photographer’s assistant gets the right to ’learn the camera’ from their photographer, but they shouldn’t prioritize that over other things."

He said and flipped the pages of the book in his hand.

"I don’t know who you’ll choose in the end but you’re gullible and can get stepped on. I want to avoid that from happening so don’t let them walk over you. If they act haughty, come to me right away and we’ll replace them right away."

Was I that gullible? I don’t think I would let others step on me so easily... Would I?

"Um, Sunbae-nim... What is the role of a photographer’s assistant?"

Taiha looked at me with a blank stare for a second as if trying to get what I was thinking but he couldn’t figure it out and then answered.

"They help photographers plan, set up, and complete photo sessions in their studios or at other worksites. This entry-level role involves helping customers, preparing photos for distribution, configuring and operating photo equipment, and offering creative and technical advice to the photographer." He answered and flopped his back on the couch. "But you’re not just an ordinary photographer with customers rolling at your doorstep. You exclusively belong to Wailers, and your work, the distribution, and configuring are all done by a group of experts. We simply use that term because it is the most suitable. A photographer assistant job in an industry as big as this is simply to prepare equipment, maybe offer advice and run a few errands like getting coffee or moving boxes of equipment, which also falls under the category of preparing equipment. And that’s it."

I listened to him and bowed my head.

"I understand." I said.

So, after all, the jobs I did in the past were indeed that of an ’errand’ boy in the guise of a photographer’s assistant.

I felt bad for being so dumb. I got treated that way once, twice, five times, and still didn’t learn from past experiences.

I was so foolish.

"Hey, don’t beat yourself up too much." He said but I shook my head. "I understand you went through rough patches before getting here. Believe me, everyone is like that."

"I was just too stupid to realize I was being used, that’s all." I said. "But I’ll make up for it. I won’t let anyone step on me, Sunbae-nim."

"That’s the spirit." He said.

Then, we started hearing loud noises from outside. It was a little commotion and Taiha made a guess.

"Ah, maybe that’s the new manager. Let’s go see." He said, getting up from the couch and I nodded.

I also got up but he paused and said,

"Kiddo, I didn’t mean to call you a pushover." He said. "So, don’t take it to heart."

I was surprised he’d even bother. There was honestly no need for that.

I knew he was a good guy. I may not have the best radar for genuine people but I was sure of it this time around.

I didn’t really take it to heart. After all, it was true that I could be a pushover. I get easily intimidated and I’m always afraid to offend others. Even if they were in the wrong, I would always take the blame.

My lips never spoke up from myself.

Was that what he was talking about? Well, he didn’t need to worry. I know how to handle myself now.

Suddenly, the commotion got louder and Taiha opened the door, only for the twins to speed past us without a word. They weren’t running but were walking so fast with long strides.

And I don’t know if I saw correctly but the expression on their faces I managed to see as they passed us was strange. They looked pissed. Like really really pissed.

"What happened?" Taiha asked Yaeran and Jiwoo who were planning to go after them.

"That..." Yaeran turned to me. "Dongwoo Hyung, do you have a twin by chance?" She asked, but I looked at her, confused.

"I don’t." I said.

"Ah, this is crazy." She touched her forehead, feeling hot. " "A guy looking like you suddenly walked in and said he was the new manager of the twins."

"As soon as the twins saw him, they suddenly walked away without a word. I don’t know if I saw it right but it looked like they were mad." Jiwoo explained.

"Wait, what do you mean by someone that looks like the kiddo?" Taiha asked.

I was honestly confused. Did they make some kind of mistake?

"It’s no joke, director. Look over there. There he is." Jiwoo pointed and we both turned our heads.

As soon as my eyes landed on this other person, they widened in shock.

Just as they said, he looked exactly like me. Black hair, blue eyes, and as petite as I was. But compared to me, he was wearing glasses and looked far more confident than I’d ever get to be.

He was the exact opposite of me and the twins... Was this the reason they got mad?

But I still didn’t understand. How could someone who looked exactly like mr become their manager?

It was too much of a coincidence. And if it was indeed a coincidence, what sort of coincidence was this?
