Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate?
Chapter 85: The Matter of Alphonse

Chapter 85: The Matter of Alphonse

"Helena, I don’t understand," Alyssa said. "The witches and warlocks can’t be back. Dora told me what your Grandpa Theodore did, that kind of magic can’t be broken."

Helena paused and thought about the implications of what her grandfather’s magic could have done and what witches or warlocks being present could mean.

"It’s either something happened and someone got loose, or whoever has been helping our attackers never left," Helena hummed.

"I’m betting on the latter," Alyssa told Helena.

"Mom," Helena said as she looked her mom in the eyes. "Why are you here?"

"To visit my daughters," Alyssa shrugged.

"Mom," Helena said, glaring.

"Romeo sent us," Rebecca suddenly said from her seat next to Rae.

Rae looked at the little girl shocked by the revelation.

"He said that you’d never let him near so he decided to ask Mom, but Mom said she wouldn’t go here if I weren’t with her," Rebecca revealed.

"He’s coming, isn’t he?" Helena asked as she looked at her mom.

Alyssa nodded and smiled.

"He knew you were going to run here," Alyssa informed her daughter. "Something about a friend."

"Alphonse," Helena said quietly.

"Romeo is jealous of him," Rae added.

"What does that lone wolf have that the Blackmoon Alpha would be jealous of?" Victor asked.

"He’s my friend," Helena said with a shrug.

Though she wasn’t quite sure where they stood now.

After he’d dropped them off and Helena had to be rushed to the hospital she hadn’t allowed him to visit.

She told him she needed space and needed to rest. It didn’t stop him, however, from blowing up her phone with calls and messages asking how she was doing.

He’d also sent flowers and a few gifts for Ronan.

Helena had the gifts returned while she kept the flowers and had them placed in the hotel lobby.

She didn’t want to give Alphonse any hope. She’d made it clear that she was mated and the father of her child was her mate.

"Speaking of Alphonse," Rae said as she looked nervously at the five Alphas in the room. "I’m worried about him."

"Has he done anything?" Victor asked, growling.

He’d always been protective of Helena, but it seemed since learning that they were related he’d been acting differently, even more protective over Helena, Rae, and Ronan.

"He hasn’t," Helena said.

"Yet, he hasn’t, yet," Rae corrected her. "We’re talking about a man that refuses to accept that you’re mated. Someone willing to challenge the Moon Goddess."

"Some would call it romantic," Gavin pointed out.

"Not when Helena had told him she didn’t love him," Rae snapped at the older wolf.

"Have you never felt that way about him?" Alyssa asked her daughter. "I know you’ve been friends with him for a long time and he was your rock when you started settling here."

Helena shook her head.

"He’s only ever been a friend to me and I made that painfully clear to him," Helena told her.

"I’ll increase security in the building," Victor said as he leaned against the couch with his arms crossed on his chest. "I won’t let him near you without a security detail. We’ll say it’s a protocol for visiting Lunas."

"Actually," Helena said as she bit her lower lip. "He doesn’t know who my mate is."

Rae’s eyes went wide with shock.

"You haven’t told him?" Rae asked.

"It never came up," Helena shrugged.

"You were pregnant with your mate’s child!" Rae argued.

"Lower your voice, Rae," Victor scolded. "You’ll wake Ronan."

Rae glared at Victor before turning her attention back to Helena.

"How could you have forgotten to tell him that your mate is the Blackmoon Alpha?" Rae asked.

"Honestly, it never came up," Helena shrugged.

"Is he dangerous?" Alyssa asked Helena. "Do you think he could become a threat?"

Helena closed her eyes and thought of Alphonse.

She’d never had to assess her friend as a threat but there was a first for everything.

"He’s a strong warrior, that’s for sure," Helena told her family as she thought of the multiple sparring sessions they’d had over the years. "He’s from a ranked line, that I can be sure of. He’s also quite smart."

"Why isn’t he a ranked wolf in a pack?" Caleb asked.

"According to him he doesn’t play well with others," Helena shrugged. "As a matter of fact I don’t think he has a lot of friends in the city."

"Either way, I’ll have security increased," Victor told Helena as he tapped away on his phone. "It’s best to be prepared. A wolf with a broken heart is quite unpredictable, especially one that doesn’t seem to have any pack loyalties."

"Do you know what pack he came from?" Jonathan asked Helena.

"No, he’s never mentioned," Helena said as she realized that she actually didn’t know.

"Any family?" Jonathan pushed further.

"None, they all died when he was younger," she said as she recalled how heartbroken she felt for the young Alphonse as he told Helena about how his father was brutally murdered by a cocky Alpha. "His dad was murdered when he was young and his mom died during childbirth."

It was because of his father’s death that he’d left his pack, luckily he was able to become a lone wolf rather than go rogue.

"Either way, Helena," Rae said as she looked Helena in the eyes. "You need to make sure he understands that you aren’t interested. We never know what someone like him could do."

Helena nodded, agreeing with Rae.

"Okay, enough talk of heartbroken men and potential stalkers. Now, give me a proper introduction to my grandson," Alyssa said as he reached out to ask for the little boy.

Helena chuckled as she walked over to Ronan and picked him up.

He was fast asleep as his mother cradled him and walked over to Alyssa.

"Mom, this is Ronan," Helena said as the little boy slowly woke up.

"Well, little Ronan, aren’t you quite a looker," Alyssa said as she looked at her Grandson.

She lifted her gaze and met Helena’s, "You did well, Helena, you did well."
