Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 81: Grandmama
Chapter 81: Grandmama
Helena looked down and watched her son as he slept peacefully.
The past few days had been quite a challenge, luckily she had Rae with her and the Sunfire Alphas were quick to offer their help.
They’d initially wanted to talk to her as soon as she’d arrived, but with the birth of her son, they put aside business and decided to instead be uncles to the little boy.
"Damn, that’s one good-looking kid," Caleb Firelake, one of the Sunfire Alphas wistled.
"He’s behaved too," Rae boasted. "I don’t think I’ve seen a baby sleep through the night like him or be as quiet as he is."
"Doesn’t it worry you?" Victor asked as he looked at Helena. "Babies aren’t this calm."
Helena sighed and shook her head.
"It does, but my wolf said Ronan is healthy so do all the doctors," she told the Sunfire Alphas. "I should trust them and I do feel like my pup is well."
The Alphas nodded as they watched the little boy.
"Your Mate has requested to visit," Caleb told Helena. "We’ve rejected his request, but we can only hold him back so many times."
"I know, I know," Helena said. "Let me just try to get to the bottom of all of this. I’m speaking with Victor’s grandmother today and visiting the library tomorrow."
"Is that related to why you don’t want to go back?" Jonathan, the youngest of the Sunfire Alphas at Eighteen asked.
He’d become alpha when both his grandfather and father were poisoned by a disgruntled former pack member.
Helena had been there. She’d witnessed the once-timid Jonathan Hellfire strike down the traitor in the bloodiest way possible.
It seemed like a long time ago, but in reality, only two years had passed since that day. Now the shyness that once made him such a darling to his pack was gone, replaced by the powerful young man who sat playing with her son.
"It is," Helena answered.
"Do you love him?" Jonathan asked as Helena saw a hint of his old self surfacing.
"I do," Helena said as she gave the young man as mile.
Helena watched her son as he settled in his aunt’s arms, slowly falling asleep as everyone chatted and watched.
"I think I can go now," Helena whispered, worried that her son would wake up.
"Grandmama is waiting for you," Victor confirmed as he watched the sleeping boy.
Helena looked at Rae and gave her a nod.
"We’ll be back as soon as we can," she promised her best friend.
"I hope you get the answers you need," Rae said as she looked at Helena.
"And I hope you find yous," she answered back.
"I think," Rae said as she looked around the room. "I think I’m ready to go back when you are."
"Oh?" Helena asked, stunned at what Rae had said. "What changed your mind?"
"This city, having new friends," Rae told Helena.
"Then let’s get moving so you guys can go back to that grumpy Alpha and his Gamma," Victor grumbled as he walked up to the front door.
Helena simply nodded and followed.
As they took the elevator down, Victor leaned back against the wall.
"I think I’m ready to give up my bachelor lifestyle and settle down," he confessed.
"What changed your mind?" Helena asked, laughing at her friend.
"You did," he shrugged. "You once avoided finding your mate like a plague and here you are fighting to get back to him."
"I’m not," she sighed as she looked down at her feet. "I’m actually running from him."
"But what you’re doing is so you can eventually get back to him," Victor said, shaking his head.
"So you’ll actively search for your mate at the Ball?" Helena asked.
"I’m thinking of widening the net," he said with a shrug. "Inviting more packs to the Blood Moon Ball, being there for longer."
Helena nodded and smiled.
While she still feared what could happen if something happened to her or her mate, she now understood why it was so important to so many to find their mates.
Without her mate she knew she was lacking, there was emptiness in a way that she couldn’t even describe.
The ride to Victor’s grandmother’s place was quiet. Luckily they could go through her building’s basement to avoid the paparazzi that had now camped out on the streets, eager to get a scoop.
Theodora Sage and her husband lived near the peak of one of the mountains that surrounded Sunfire City. They’d moved up there after Victor was named Alpha and most of the witches and warlocks had gone into hiding.
Helena had only met Theodora a handful of times, but she’d always been nice to her.
Today, however, Helena was nervous about visiting the old lady.
Unlike others of her kind, Theodora didn’t go into hiding. She stayed.
Helena never bothered to ask why, she simply assumed that it was because of her mate, but Helena couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to it.
After over an hour of driving, Helena felt the car stop and she was greeted by the beautiful cottage Theodora and her husband called home.
It was a small place, but it was peaceful with grass that seemed greener and flowers that looked to be more colorful and full of life.
The air was also fresher, somehow reinvigorating Helena as they walked from the car to the door.
Victor raised his hand to knock on the door when it was yanked open and a woman who didn’t seem a day over fifty opened it.
"I knew you were coming," she said, smiling at Victor, who leaned over to give her a hug.
"And you!" Theodora said as she greeted Helena.
Like with her grandson, Theodora gave Helena a hug, catching her by surprise.
When Theodore pulled away, there was a spark in her eyes, something that reminded Helena of magic.
"It’s always an honor to host a visiting Alpha Heir, and the Grand Warlock’s Heir."
