Chapter 65: The Luna and The Fight
Chapter 65: The Luna and The Fight
Helena shook her head as she tried to get up.
Looking around, their pack had yet to join them but foreign wolves she’d scented had surrounded them.
She made a survey of her body, but she had no major injuries. She wasn’t bleeding and he had no broken bones.
For some reason, the invading wolves were not closing in on her either.
She spotted Romeo out cold on the ground as the would-be attackers circled his injured body.
That’s why she wasn’t as hurt as she’d expected.
He’d taken the blow that was meant for her. Helena growled at the wolves that circled Romeo and they snapped back.
Two moved from Romeo’s side to stalk her.
’No!’ Romeo shouted through their link as he came to. ’Stay back, Helena.’
Helena chose to ignore him. Like him, she was trained to defend herself, trained to kill.
She growled at the wolves before attacking one, taking his neck by her jaws and snapping it, killing him instantly.
His companion took advantage of the kill to attack Helena, his claws drawing blood from her shoulder.
The injury would have been so much worse if Helena hadn’t jumped back the moment she released the dead wolf.
’Helena!’ Romeo growled as he jumped back up, diving between Helena and her attacker.
Romeo unexpectedly took the blow that Helena had been waiting for, dislocating his shoulder as the wolf’s claws dug into his fur.
Helena growled as Romeo gritted back the pain.
She tried to attack, but Romeo quickly stood and charged for the wolf. He managed to kill it by slashing its throat, but another wolf attacked them, taking Romeo down to the ground.
’We’re almost there,’ Helena heard Neil say through the packlink as another wolf attacked her.
She managed to easily take this one down, right before she felt another wolf’s claws dig into her back.
’Helena!’ Romeo whimpered as he killed the two wolves that were on him.
’Focus on your own fight, Romeo,’ Helena shouted through their link as she shoved the wolf that had attacked her and pressed so hard down on his chest that she broke his ribs and pierced his heart.
Just as she killed that wolf, she spun around, using his dead body to knock away his companions.
To her surprise, Romeo was by her side again, growling at every wolf that tried to come near.
From the the corner of her eyes she noticed a few slipping away, without a doubt they were going after the rest of the pack, maybe even the unshifted.
’Romeo! Get them!’ Helena hissed through the link. ’I can handle these.’
’No,’ Romeo argued. ’You are my first priority, I will not let anyone harm you.’
’For fucks sake Romeo, protect our pack!’ Helena argued.
’Neil and Kade are with them,’ Romeo answered her back as she attacked one of the wolves.
Romeo growled in protest, but there was nothing he could do as Helena killed two.
’I can protect myself, I can fight,’ Helena argued.
’I am not letting them get to you again!’ Romeo growled as he took down more wolves.
’Our pack needs its Alpha,’ Helena hissed.
This time, Romeo ignored her as he took down more wolves.
’Where the fuck are they coming from,’ Helena hissed as she killed another pair. ’And they’re not rogue, I can smell a pack scent.’
Just as Helena and Romeo worked their way through the attacking wolves, backup arrived.
Neil and Kade charged through the woods in wolf form, taking down several of the attacking wolves.
Helena moved to take down several more wolves and join in the battle, but she was pulled away by Kade.
’Let me go,’ she hissed through the pack link as she shifted back to human form.
Kade did the same and tossed her a shirt from his bag.
"Alpha’s orders, Luna," Kade said with a serious expression as he dressed.
"I can help, I can fight," she argued as Kade and two more warriors from the pack walked her away from the fight, taking down attacking wolves with them as well.
"The Alpha can’t fight properly if he keeps worrying about you," Kade told her as they moved further away from the fight.
Helena huffed as they trekked their way back to the pack house.
Luckily, they hadn’t gone far yet with their run, and they managed to make it back quickly.
"Helena," her mother gasped as she pulled her daughter into her arms.
"Mom, tell them to let me back out there!" Helena argued. "I’m the best fighter we’ve got after Romeo, and I’m being wasted here with three wolves, including the Gamma protecting me!"
"Oh, Helena," Alyssa sighed as she pulled her daughter into her arms. "You know there is nothing I can do, I’m no longer Luna."
Helena looked at her mom and blinked.
She was right.
The pack was technically without a Luna and Romeo’s command as Alpha would stand unchallenged.
"Helena!" she heard Rae call out as her stepsister came charging toward her.
Rae wrapped her arms around Helena and hugged her tight.
Helena looked to Kade, wondering if he wanted time with his mate, but Kade stood by the door an ever loyal soldier.
"Are you injured?" Rae asked as she searched Helena’s body.
"Just a few scratches," Helena shrugged.
"Romeo said you had a deep cut on your back and on your shoulder," Kade said, joining in on the conversation.
Helena rolled her eyes and turned to face the Gamma.
"Both of which are healing," Helena hissed. "I could have kept fighting. We all know that."
"I don’t think you’ll be fighting in the foreseeable future," Rae giggled right before the door burst open and Romeo entered with Neil right on his heels.
He quickly went to Helena and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"You’re safe," he whispered. "I couldn’t see you hurt."
"Rome," Helena groaned.
"I need you in my arms on our bed, right now," Romeo said, picking her up and carrying her up the stairs two at a time.
