Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 53: Interrogations
Chapter 53: Interrogations
"Are you sure?" Romeo asked as he walked behind her toward the pack prison.
"I am," she said with a more determined expression. "They’re kids, Romeo, kids!"
"I know, Helena," he sighed before pulling her back, making her stop. "Helena, you just woke up. You were poisoned just the other day. Are you sure you can go through an interrogation that could take hours?"
"What else would I do, Romeo?" Helena asked. "Mom has everything handled for the Rite."
"Rest?" he dared to ask.
"I’m fine, I promise," she said in a much kinder tone.
’They are just worried about us,’ Hera told her.
’Romeo and Ryder should know better,’ she hissed at her wolf.
"You’ll tell me if you want to rest?" Romeo asked her.
"I will," Helena promised.
Romeo held her hand and led the way this time.
The pack prison blended in with the surrounding buildings. It looked like it was a shop, and this was intentional since most packs didn’t want people trying to rescue their imprisoned companions.
While the upper floors of the building served as offices and shops, the floors below ground level housed criminals from outside the Blackmoon pack.
"Alphas," the woman at the front desk greeted them before gesturing to an unasuming storage closet to the side.
Romeo thanked her before leading Helena inside and through the maze of shelves meant to deter any attempts at finding the entrance to the prison.
As the elevator descended, Romeo pulled Helena against his chest and kissed her shoulder.
"I’m happy you’re with me," he told her. "I’m glad I can hold your hand and kiss you in front of everyone."
"You make me happy too," Helena purred as she let herself rest against Romeo.
When the elevator door opened, they were greeted by Neil, who seemed way too happy to see them.
"What’s with the smile?" Helena asked.
"Just glad you’re back, Helena," he said with a grin before leading them down the hall.
The white walls made it look like a hospital, most likely to confuse prisoners about their location.
This floor in particular was filled with interrogation rooms, offices, and a few barracks that allowed for easy access by back-up teams if needed.
"This one should break easily," Neil said as they stopped in front of one of the interrogation rooms. "He’s been beside himself since he realized he survived."
"Dead mate?" Helena asked, remembering how her mother had been after her father’s death.
To her surprise, Neil shook his head.
"Sister, older sister," Neil said in a heavy tone. "This group was a lot harder to deal with emotionally."
"Let’s look into integrating them into the packs if they are young," Helena told Romeo. "Most of them were young."
"It’ll depend on how these interrogations go," Romeo said with a nod.
Helena thanked him with a kiss on the cheek before entering the room.
Inside was a young man, probably around eighteen. His head hung on his shoulders, looking defeated, his clothes stained red with blood.
"Hey, what’s your name?" Helena asked as she sat across the young wolf.
He looked up at her with a blank look in his eyes.
"I’m here to help," she said.
"You’re with them," the man said in a small voice. "You’re with the Alpha and his men."
"Of course I am," she told him. "You attacked my pack."
"I didn’t— we didn’t—" he said, practically sobbing.
’Stay out there,’ Helena told Romeo through their link.
’What if he attacks you?’ Romeo growled.
’He looks like he’s lost everything, Romeo, trust me on this,’ Helena told him.
’If he tries anything, I’ll kill him,’ Romeo growled.
’I’m sure I’ll kill him first,’ Helena scoffed. ’He’s more likely to talk with me rather than the Alpha that killed his sister.’
’They signed their own death warrant,’ Romeo growled.
"You’re a she-wolf," the young man said, tilting his head to the side.
"Yes," Helena said as she looked at him curiously. He seemed confused to be speaking to her. "My name is Helena, why do you seem confused?"
"Our old pack, they wouldn’t let a she-wolf do anything more than tend to the house and bear pups."
"That’s not how our pack works," Helena explained. Then, a thought came to her.
"Is that why you and your sister are rouges?" she asked the young man.
To her surprise, he nodded slowly.
"Our older sister, Kaya, she wanted to be a warrior, and when she argued with our Alpha, he banished the whole family," he said as he looked down at his hands.
"Kaya, was she the one that—"
"No, ma’am, that wasn’t Kaya. Kaya didn’t want to be part of this, said we were stupid for listening to the man that came saying Blackmoon would kill us if we tried to attack," the young man said quickly.
A hundred questions ran through Helena’s mind in an instant as she processed what he was saying.
"What’s your name?" she asked.
He looked at her, stunned that she would even ask.
"Carl," he answered, blushing.
"And the one that died?" she asked.
"Amanda, she’s our second eldest, then I’m the youngest," Carl explained.
"And your parents?" Helena asked.
"Dead, they were killed by a group of rogues that wanted my sisters. Kaya and I dealt with them after," Carl confessed.
"What happened? Why did you attack my pack?" she asked Carl.
’They’ve been through so much,’ Hera told her.
’I just don’t understand why they would attack us,’ Helena told her wolf.
Carl hesistated, but not long after, he simply decided to speak.
"A man, a Beta said that if we did as he asked and scared your pack a bit, we could join his pack," he explained to Helena. "Some were more than willing, we’ve all been craving to be part of a pack again, but others like Kaya didn’t trust him."
"You live with other wolves?" Helena asked.
Carl nodded.
"A group of rouges, we just want to find a pack that will take us in, we’re no criminals," Carl cried out.
"And the Beta that came to you, did he tell you what pack he’s from?" Helena asked.
"He said he was from the Dark Ridge Pack," Carl told her.
’No fucking way that Beta that approached them was from Dark Ridge,’ Romeo growled through the link.
"Carl, if I told you we can help Kaya and the others, are you willing to show me where your group has been hiding out?" Helena asked.
Carl nodded slowly, "I can if you promise not to hurt us."
