Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 45: Relationship Talk
Chapter 45: Relationship Talk
"How long are you going to be gone?" Rebecca cried as she clung onto Helena’s waist.
Helena frowned and bent down to pick up her sister.
"Not long," Romeo told Rebecca as he messed her hair making Rebecca cry out and try to swat her brother’s hand away. "Just for the night."
"Then you’ll be back?" Rebecca asked, looking up at Helena as she eagerly waited for her answer.
"Yes, I’ll come back," Helena promised her little sister.
Rebecca gave her one final tight hug before running back to Raul’s side.
"Ready?" Romeo asked as he opened the door for Helena.
"Let’s go," Helena said with one final look back at the pack house. "The sooner we leave, the sooner we can come back home."
Romeo nodded and closed the door behind her before going around to get in the driver’s seat.
Helena continued to look out the window longingly.
"You know what the difference of today is compared to all the other times I’ve left?" she asked Romeo.
"You’re leaving with me," he teased.
She gave him a sarcastic smile before turning back to watch the packhouse as Romeo drove away.
"This time, I know I’m coming home, and I know exactly when," she confessed.
"You know you don’t have to leave again," Romeo told her as they drove out of the main compound of the Blackmoon pack. "You can choose to stay."
"Romeo, I have a job," Helena sighed. "I’m part of the reason why we’re at peace with so many other packs."
"And you’ve done your job so well that you can now stay here, at home," Romeo argued.
"I need to get back out there, Romeo," Helena sighed. "I only came back for the Alpha Rite because everyone needs to be there."
"No, Helena, you don’t have to go," Romeo said, gripping the steering wheel tightly. "Blackmoon is one of the largest packs in the country, especially with Red River."
"And that paints an even bigger target on your back," Helena said, shaking her head. "But this isn’t about my job, is it?"
Romeo didn’t answer her.
’He’s so frustrating,’ Helena grumbled to her wolf, but Hera had been oddly silent since they got into the car.
"It’s not about my job because I know that if I wanted to do something, you’d be the first to support me," Helena dared to accuse.
"Of course it’s not about your job!" Romeo said, raising his voice. "Don’t you see, your place is here, with me, with Rae, with Rebecca, by my side as my Luna and as Alpha Heir of Stonehill."
"To be your Luna, I’d have to be your mate," Helena hissed. "I’m not your mate, Romeo. You deserve someone who will be a proper Luna for you."
Helena knew she was lying. She’d felt the effects throughout the morning, she was drawn to Romeo at a different level this time.
To her surprise, Romeo threw back his head and laughed.
"You’ve always been a bad liar, Helena," he hissed. "It’s just you and me in the car right now. I know you can feel this."
All of a sudden, Romeo grabbed her hand, and Helena could feel sparks on her skin.
"Tell me Helena, do you want me as much as I want you?" he asked.
Helena didn’t answer.
She remained silent, fearing what she would say.
If she confessed what she felt for him, would she be setting herself up for heartbreak?
"We’ve danced around this for years, Helena," Romeo said. "Then you left because you were running from me, running from this."
Helena refused to answer him.
Romeo pulled the car up to the side of the road and parked it.
Helena looked around and realized that their conversation had already taken up half of the trip to Red River.
Romeo faced her and cupped her cheek. He ran his thumb over her skin, sending sparks throughout her body.
Helena was tempted to lean in against his touch, to give in to what her emotions and her body were screaming for her to do.
When their gazes met, Helena was transfixed by Romeo’s intense glare. She couldn’t quite paint what emotions she could see, but she knew all of them were for her.
"I love you, Helena," Romeo said with a sigh. "I’ve loved you since we were kids, and being with you has only strengthened my belief in something I’ve grown up knowing."
"And what is that?" Helena asked in a small voice.
"That you are my mate, and I would do anything and everything to keep you happy," Romeo confessed.
Helena finally managed to look away as she began to blush.
"You said you would stop fighting this, Helena," Romeo groaned. "I thought we were making progress."
"I’m not ready for something this big, Romeo," she hissed.
"Just give it a chance, please," Romeo begged. "Give us a chance."
Helena bit her lower lip, worried that she was about to say something she might come to regret.
"Talk to me, love, please," Romeo continued to plead.
Taking a deep breath, Helena decided to make the leap.
"What are we? We aren’t mates," she pointed out.
"You’re my girlfriend," Romeo said as he smiled at her, beaming with what she’d just said.
He placed his hand behind her head and pulled her to him. When their lips met, it was like fireworks went off all around them.
It just felt right.
"People will talk," Helena pointed out as she pulled away.
"Fuck people," Romoe hiseed.
"I’m serious, the wolves at Blackmoon and Stonehill might be accepting of our relationship, but we are still stepsiblings," she said.
Romeo let out a frustrated grunt as he continued the drive.
"They still matter. We still need to make allies," Helena reasoned.
"Then we tell the truth, we never saw each other as siblings, we’ve always loved each other," Romeo grumbled.
"I’m afraid sometimes the truth won’t be enough," Helena confessed.
"It’s the best we can do for now, love," Romeo told her. "I will never hide you Helena, you will never be a dirty little secret."
