Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 130
Chapter 130: Chapter 130
While Romeo had prepared for a fight, he hadn’t expected it to happen this way.
He thought he’d have to fight someone like Alphonse to get Helena back, or maybe fight to win her heart back after she’d left, but he didn’t expect something that resembled a war.
As he searched the smoke-filled section of the packhouse he spotted Alyssa and Theodore.
Theodore was pushing away pieces of masonry that was falling off of the roof, protecting the wolves, witches, and warlocks nearby. While Alyssa fought off what seemed to be several wolves.
Romeo made a move to help, but his stepmother waved him off.
"We got this," she called out as a warlock and a wolf came to Alyssa’s aid, taking down one of the attackers. "There are more than enough of us, go find Helena."
Romeo gave her a quick nod before running in the direction he could sense his mate.
The cloud of dust thickened as he made his way through the maze of debris and dead bodies. He could see that some of them were finely dressed, probably guests at the ball, while others were dressed for battle.
Romeo’s attention was drawn to the sounds of growling and a fight, he quickly headed in that direction.
As he neared he saw three wolves circling one that was injured.
He could tell that the defending wolf was someone on their side. Romeo quickly shifted, taking one wolf out while the other one was killed by the injured wolf.
Romeo didn’t hesitate as he knocked out the third wolf.
Both he and the injured wolf shifted and to Romeo’s surprise, it was one of the Sunfire Alphas.
"We haven’t exactly been introduced properly," the Alpha said as he offered his hand which dripped of blood from the injury on his arm. "Victor Sunstrike, in the odd scheme of things I’m your mate’s cousin. Well, stepcousin."
"What’s your involvement with Rae?" Romeo asked as he glared at the Alpha.
"I’m not involved with your sister," Victor chuckled. "I was with her because we were accompanying Helena."
"Why would Helena be in the hospital?" Romeo growled.
"It’s a conversation you should have with your mate, who by the way ran that way," Victor pointed toward a still-in-tact hallway that led out of the main ballroom.
Most of the lights no longer worked since the collapse must have damaged some cables.
"Let’s get to her, she might need help," Romeo said as he began to sprint in the direction of the hall.
Just as they were about to approach Romeo fell to the ground, tackled by an unknown assailant.
"Romeo!" Victor shouted as Romeo fought off his attacker.
Based on the growling and the sound of breaking bones and tearing flesh, Romeo could tell that Victor had his hands full.
The wolf that had tackled Romeo to the ground was a powerful one, probably a ranked wolf since it didn’t carry the stench of a rogue.
Romeo sent a prayer to the Moon Goddess before grabbing the wolf by the neck and snapping it. The wolf fell limp in Romeo’s arms, in the past he’d mourn the death and contemplate it for days, but his mate was missing, and for Helena, he’d break every law known to wolfkind and go against every creature.
As soon as he’d killed the wolf that caught him off guard, Romeo helped Victor, killing a few wolves along the way.
Romeo jumped in to help just as more wolves from the Sunfire pack arrived. He watched as the assailants began to falter, some seemed to even consider running away.
"Romeo, go after her!" Victor shouted. "We’ve got this handled."
Nodding to the other Alpha, Romeo shifted into his wolf form and ran down the empty hall.
It was silent, oddly silent even to his wolf senses. The hall was too quiet.
’Can you sense her?’ Romeo asked his wolf Ryder as he pushed him to move faster.
’Yes, but it’s faint,’ Ryder answered. Romeo could sense his wolf’s worry.
’Do you think she’s at the end of the hall?’ Romeo pressed.
’She has to be,’ Ryder said as they began to see a light at the end of the hall.
Moving quickly, Romeo reached the end, only to be greeted by a door that was burst wide open.
His wolf growled in frustration, smashing into a million pieces of what was left of the door.
He lifted his nose into the air, searching for any trace of his mate.
’None,’ he growled.
’Witches,’ Ryder added. ’It has to be the Coven.’
’I doubt the coven would do this,’ Romeo explained to his frustrated wolf. ’The Grand Warlock is her Grandfather. To harm her would be an act against their leader.’
’A rebellion? Traitors?’ Ryder asked.
’Well that’s something only the Grand Warlock can answer,’ Romeo said as he shifted into his human form.
’Daniel, I know you’re around,’ Romeo said through the pack link.
’Alpha,’ Daniel answered.
’Go find Kade and get me the Sunfire Alphas and the Grand Warlock,’ Romeo growled angrily. ’My mate is missing and I need answers, now.’
’Of course, Alpha,’ Daniel said.
Romeo waited for the link to be cut, but Daniel stayed on. It was clear to Romeo that there was something he still needed to say.
’What is it?’ Romeo asked his Beta. ’You want to say something, say it.’
’Alpha there is something you need to know,’ Daniel began. ’But I think it’s best that I show you. Do you think you can find this building?’
Daniel sent him a mental image of a luxurious residential building.
’I can find it,’ Romeo told his Beta.
’I’ll see you there, Alpha,’ Daniel said as he finally cut the link.
Looking up at the sky Romoe howled in pain before taking off in search of the image Daniel had shown him.
If Romeo’s hunch was right it would be where Helena’s residence was located, and right now Romeo needed everything and anything that would bring him closer to his mate.
"You’ve become oddly silent," the man said. "I think you need another dose."
She heard the man snap his fingers as someone approached her and grabbed her arm roughly.
Based on the scent and the person’s ability to handle wolfsbane without any harm, Helena assumed it was a witch, but with the effects of the Wolfsbane still in her system Helena couldn’t see or scent those around her clearly.
"My dearest Luna Helena, your mate’s greatest weakness is his love for you," the man said.
As he spoke Helena felt the needle pierce her arm as a fire burned through her veins, it was without a doubt the effect of the wolfsbane.
Helena closed her eyes and focused on her breathing.
She tried to reach out to Hera but to no avail.
She knew it was unlikely that she could reach her wolf, but she had to try.
Crying out in pain she could hear the man’s laughter, he was enjoying her suffering.
"I fucking swear, when I get out of here I’m not just going to kill you," Helena cursed. "You will suffer before I kill you. I’ll make sure to pay you back tenfold for what you’re doing and when you’ve had enough, when you’re begging for death I will not fucking grant it!"
"It seems she needs more," the man said.
At his command, another needle pierced through Helena’s skin and the burning sensation filled her body.
It was so painful that Helena could feel her senses shutting down to protect her.
"You’ll regret this," Helena hissed as the world around her dimmed and she lost consciousness once again.
She didn’t know how much time had passed, but when she came to once more she was haunted by the sound of dripping water.
Her head pounded, probably the effects of all the wolfsbane in her system.
This time, she was alone.
Helena struggled to sit up, it took her a while, but eventually, she was upright and managed to prop herself against the wall.
She studied her surroundings carefully.
There was a dim light that allowed her to see what little was in the room.
It was a small space, probably a basement of a building. She doubted that her captors could take her far.
The ground was hard and the walls damp, with moss growing on the walls.
There was leaky faucet and pale in one corner but it was too far for Helena to crawl to.
She closed her eyes and took deep breaths as she tried to recover from the wolfsbane.
When she was finally ready to move, the door creaked and Helena continued to pretend to be weak.
"So you’re the half-breed the Grand Warlock wants as his heir," a woman said in a mocking tone. "I will not let my people be led by a weakling like you. Even if I have to work with mutts like that filth outside."
